Post Spiders World League Challenge

I am going to follow in the footsteps of some others here, and start my own string for my yearly updates. This way I won't have to wait forever for the others to load while I am trying to put mine up.

Before I get started, my goal is to have a winning record in 4 years, and to make the playoffs in this 4th season of play.
This is what I think I will need, and will determine what I do in the draft and off-season:
Studs: RB, C, 1-DT, 1-MLB (To control the ball on O, and to totally shut down the inside running game on D)
Very good: 1-CB, 1-DE, FB, 1-S, P, K
Above Avg: QB, 1-WR, 1-T, 1-CB, 1-OLB
Avg: 2-G, 1-T, TE, 1-WR, 1-OLB, 1-S, 1-DE, 1-DT (these are where I will save up on some cash)

2017
1.) Ticket Prices - Raised all prices to equal Washington's.
2.) FA Signings - Tons of holes to fill, but I am not a big fan of signing Free Agents. I will attempt to build mainly through the Am. Draft.
1-10 QB Randal Nelson 4yr/61.18 -A hefty price tag, but Randal looks to be a solid QB with 77/98 in Acc and 75/90 in Power, this guy should provide stability for a good decade or so.
11-20 DE Johnnie Burgess 4yr/32.4 -Not a superstar, and I think I overpaid, but I wanted to get at least one veteran on my D-Line.

3.) Rookie Draft (All Potentials are Post TC)
1 Gerald Richardson (#1) RB -A total stud. Should be the gamebreaker for my team. Potentials: Bkwy speed 63, Sht Ydg 94, YPC 98, Cry 98.
2 Renaldo Givens DT -96 potential in Pass Rush, 42 in Run D...I plan on moving him to DE once I get some solid DT's in the lineup.
3 Wesley Donaldson S -I don't know how this guy slipped to the 3rd Rd. Definite immediate starter.
4 Justin Wertz P -A bad team needs a good punter. Since I couldnt get a quality kicker, I had to get this guy- potentials 89/86/62
5 Rusty Hetrick WR
6 Adam Farmer C
7 Perry Martin T

All 7 Draftees make the starting lineup.

5.) Exhibition Season Record 1-3
6.) Regular Season Record 4-12, PF 239 - PA 353. NO wins Super Bowl.
- I had hoped to win 6 games, but I guess I can't complain. I wound up with the #2 overall pick.

7.) Season Awards 1st Team LB Kerry O'Neal 120 Tkls. 4.5 Sacks

8.) Notable Stats.
QB Randal Nelson 2509 Yds/8 TD/9 INT/72.0 Rtg
RB Gerald Richardson (R) 238 Car/936 Yds/6 TD
WR Rusty Floyd 62 Ctch/847 Yds/4 TD
P Justin Wertz (R) 111 Pnts/ 44.2 Avg/ 46 In20
LB Kerry O'Neal 120 Tkls/ 4.5 Sks
DE Johnnie Burgess 7 Sks/0 Blks/3 Hur
S Donovan Fields 5 Int/51.2 PDQ
G Floyd Mayes 21-57 KRB/ 6 Sks All.

8.) Team Stats
Offensive 96.1 Rush YPG/1538 Yds
184.0 Pass YPG/2944
Defensive 130.1 Rush YPGA
216.0 Pass YPGA
Turnover Summary +7

9.) Herb Scores 1/27/49/70 = 31

2018
1.) Ticket Prices - No changes.
2.) Staff Hiring Period. 1 mill/ 4yr bid offered on NO Scout Allen Behrendt.
Ratings VG/VG/VG/G/VG/VG/VG/G/VG
Behrendt signs with Mia, noone else
pursued.
3.) Franchise Player named: Vincent Woodard LB

4.) Free Agency 1-10: Decide to pursue stud C Dan Bailey of Ind. Dan is a 6 year vet with ratings of 92/96, 95/100, 54
If I can sign Bailey, Gerald Richardson should be on his road to stardom.
I make a 25.04/ 4 year bid, cross my fingers a say a short prayer.
Bailey signs with Bal 20.76/3yrs. I guess things just weren't meant to be.
No other stud C available, but I find T Tito McReynolds of the G-Men with 80/89/83 ratings.
I send Tito's wife a bouquet of roses, and Tito himself a Postcard from Richmond with a 31.24/4yr offer.
Tito signs with TB 16.13/2yrs. I guess their postcard of Florida looked much nicer than mine. (I consider asking for the Roses back, but I dont want to be lumped with Paul Brown)
With no other Star OL available, I take a look at DE amd DT. I choose to pass.
I then take a look at WR, find a few quality guys, but choose not to offer them the 15.1/2yrs that they ask for. I will save my money and see what I can do in the draft.
With my options dimming, I find a plug LB in Eddie Booker 82/42/72/85/41. This guy could make a very good MLB or Strong Side LB.
I make him a 28.46/4yr offer. Being supersticous, I go another route -no flowers, no post-card, no extras.
The NYJ force me to up my offer to 29.69/4 yrs. My final offer.
Becker decides to stay in MIN for much less money.
I move on to my second choice at LB and sign Cris Pape 17.15/3yrs.
I decide to forego the remaining stages and hope for a deep draft.

5.)FA Signings
1-10 N/A
11-20 LB Cris Pape

I retain the rights to my own FA G Floyd Mayes.

6.) 2018 Amateur Draft.
The Lord must have heard my prayers. Stud C B.J Connell sits atop the ratings board w/ potentials of 100/94/73. Will he slip to the number two pick?
I am once again a believer! Carolina selects some QB named Norbert Bates (Norman's son?), and I get my man Connell, RB Gerald Richardson is ecstatic

Rnd 1 - B.J. Connell, C, UCLA
Rnd 2 - Nolan Beardsley, WR, Miss St
Rnd 3 - Claude Finley, DT, Northwestern
Rnd 4 - Trent Fisk, G, Duke
Rnd 5 - Terrance Forbes, S, Florida State
Rnd 6 - Leon Hamilton, K, Colorado
Rnd 7 - Damon Borkowski, TE, Nicholls St

8.) A number of players are signed to fill out my roster, and we head to training camp.

9.) FB Levon Richardson, in his last year of his contract, agrees to a renegotiated, extended contract.

10.) 2019 Exhibition Season 0-4
Regular Season 7-9. No playoffs. I had hoped to win 7 games, and we did just that.
PF 304 - PA 317
7 Points.
Chi wins the Super Bowl.

11.) Season Awards:
NFL MVP, OPOY, 1st Team RB - Gerald Richardson
2nd Team C - B.J Connell (R)
2nd Team LB - Kerry O'Neal

12.) Notable Stats

2019

1.) Staff Hiring Period.
With the contract expiring on scout Wesley Harper we make a 1.25/4 year bid on Scout Jim Garcia Ratings VG/E/G/E/E/F/G/G/G.
Garcia signs.

2.) Ticket Prices
Before I set Prices I checked my Balance Sheet (Which I have forgotten to do thus far).
2017 Profit (-$35,910,000)
2018 Profit (-$1,790,000) +95%
A significant difference.

All Ticket Prices remain the same except for Luxury Boxes which are raised to $265,000 to Match Washington's.

3.) The Franchise Player tag is slapped on LB Kerry O'Neal, our leader in tackles the past two years.

4.) Free Agency
We receive three trade offers.
The first is for our FB Levon Richardson for a 7th Rd pick. It is quickly rejected.
The second is a tough call. Greensboro offers a decent DT and their 1st Rd pick (8th overall) for QB Randal Nelson. Nelson's numbers haven't been very impressive so far, but he has excellent ratings. After Winning 7 games last year, I feel we could make the playoffs this year if we add a few more players. I decide to decline the trade.
The third is for starting DT Claude Finley for GB's 1st Rd pick (26th overall). Finley was my 3rd Round Pick last year, and started all 16 games. Finley's ratings are in the 50's, not outstanding, but I think I could replace him easily in the draft with someone to a longer contract.
We make our first trade, and ship out Finley.

1-10
A 38.8/4 yr Deal is offered to Bal's DE Steve Redd with ratings of 95/68/66.
I am forced to up the offer to 42.52/4yrs, but Redd signs. We get a great Pass rushers...things are looking good.

11-20
Here we find Ind's stud WR Scottie Williams. Williams has caught over 100 passes in the past 3 years, and has won 1st Team honors in each of those years. We are suprised to see he is still available and hasn't received an offer yet.
We make a 31.18/4yr bid.
Williams signs, and we skip the remaining stages.

5.) Amateur Draft.
We go in with the 16th and 26th pick in the 1st round.
We first look at DT's, and find the draft to be pretty deep at the position.
We also notice an excellent S and CB, as well as a top notch DE. This decision will be tough.
Although we came in with our minds set on getting the top DT, we decide to take S Cedric Glover with our 16th pick. His potentials are 85/76/96/87.
The DE we had our eyes on went next, but no DT's, nor our CB were taken when we come up again with the 26th overall pick.
We decide to take CB Percy Avant with our other 1st round pick, knowing several adequate DT's will slip to the 2nd round. Avants potentials are 100/74/100/66
Two DT's are taken before we come up in the 2nd Rd. We decide we can't afford to miss out on any more.
We go with DT Max Green potentials of 60/68/73.
Time to solidify the O-Line; we take G Alfred Magallanes 70/52/68, and T Jake Rogers.
We round it out with two more S and a TE.

Rnd 1 - Percy Avant (#16), CB, Colorado State
Rnd 1 - Cedric Glover (#26), S, Memphis
Rnd 2 - Max Green, DT, South Carolina
Rnd 3 - Alfred Magallanes, G, Princeton
Rnd 4 - Jake Rogers, T, Clemson
Rnd 5 - Terrance Patrick, S, Florida State
Rnd 6 - Randall Dunlap, TE, South Carolina
Rnd 7 - Daniel Fletcher, S, Colorado

6.) Franchise Player Kerry O'Neal signs a 3 year deal.
We also sign deals with several of our URFA's, including our young Punter.

7.) Training Camp
We round out our roster, and make our way down to Florida.
I am very impressed with the way my team looks other than the O-Line.
I believe we will win 9 games this year, and make the playoffs.

8.) Exhibition Season Record 3-1. We shutout Carolina, but are held scoreless by KC.
Regular Season. We start off strong at 4-2, before we lose our stud DT Renaldo Givens for 2-3 months.
RB Gerald Richardson gets hurt in game 8, and we drop to 4-4. This is going to hurt.
We face 0-9 SD in week 10...and lose 28-7. Injuries are devastating us. We also lose starting T Perry Martin.
We fight back and find ourselves at 6-6. In second place in the NFC East, two games behind Dallas.
We go into the last game of the season at 7-8. If Arz and StL (both 8-7) lose, we have a shot at the playoffs.
Arizona plays 10-5 Dallas and loses, and StL plays 12-3 Ind and loses as well.
Unfortunately we fold under the pressure and lose; we finish at 7-9. No Playoffs. GB wins the Super Bowl.

7 POINTS

9.) Team Stats
Offensive Rush YPG 119.1, Offensive Pass YPG 181.9
Defensive Rush YPG 113.1, Defensive Pass YPG 211.3

Turnover Summary -5

10.) Individual Awards
DROY, 1st Team S Cedric Glover (R)
2nd Team C B.J Connell
2nd Team G Dwight Woods
2nd Team LB Kerry O'Neal

11.) Notable Stats
-QB Randal Nelson 2732yds/12 TD/17INT/66.4RTG
-RB Gerald Richardson 239 Rsh/1015 Yds/10 TD
-WR Scottie Williams 70 Rec/973 Yds/4 TD
-LB Kerry O'Neal 124 Tkls
-DE Steve Redd 11.5 Sk/Blk 6/Hur 6
-S Cedric Glover (R) 6 Int/7 Dfns/38.5 PDQ
-C B.J. Connell 31-102 KRB/1 SkA

12.) Herb Scores 30/57/48/68 = 48

13.) Year In review.
I like the way the team is coming along. Our QB Nelson's stats haven't been as good as I expected, but this is of course a running team.
Our RB situation couldn't be any better. Richardson and his C Connell have been impressive. The obvious thing to do next is get another top-notch O-lineman; we could use drastic improvement at both G and T positions.
Injuries killed us on defense this year. Losing our best DT and LB could have won us an extra game or two, and propelled us into the playoffs.
Our secondary was drastically improved with the draftees Glover and Avant.
My original goal was to be a playoff team in the 4th year. That is next year, and we will see how it turns out.

2020

1.) Coach Tim Bernstein was resigned to a 4 yr contract.
Despite his record of 18-30 over his 3 year tenure, we are confident that he could lead this team in to the Playoffs.

2.) To show our loyalty to the Spider fans, all ticket prices have remained the same for the season.

3.) Finances
Our scouting staff prices have skyrocketed 171% since last year, and thus caused the team to lose money this year.

2018 Profit (-$1,790,000)
2019 Profit (-$36,620,000) -1945%

I feel that my job may be in jeapordy in the near future, if we don't start making more money.
Hopefully this won't affect the type of players we can afford to sign, as that could be a disaster.

4.) No Franchise Player named.

5.) Trade offers
SD offers their 6th round pick (#2) for TE Randal Dunlap.
Dunlap started all 16 games for us last year, but was not an impact.
Since he is making $910,000, we accept the trade, and free up some money.

Cin offers a 3rd round pick for DT Renaldo Givens.
We really like Givens, and so we reject the trade immediately.

6.) Free Agency
1-10
We Pursue Buff T Artie Van Pelt 81/76/61.
Van Pelt decides to sign with Bal.
We then make an offer at Bal TE Ethan Farrell.
Farrell is a 5 yr vet and has won 1st or 2nd Tm honors 4 straight years.
With ratings of 73/71/84/99 we make a 15.1/3 yr bid on Farrell.
Farrell signs a better deal with the Jets.
Another bid is made on TE Mark Pearson, and Pearson agrees.
11-20
We sign FA T Terry Gilespie to a 9.57/4yr deal.
Gillespie has ratings of 50/69/34. He isn't outstanding, but is at least an improvement over what we currently have.

7.) Trade Offers
SF offers a 2nd Round pick for T Jake Rogers.
Rogers was our starting left T for the first 7 games last year before being injured. He played fair, but we decide a 2nd Rd pick could prove lucrative.
We make the deal.
TB offers a 2nd Round pick and TE Austin Gzrner for G Dwight Woods.
Woods started all 16 games last year and won 2nd team honors, but we decide to make the move.
Another second round pick and a TE could fill more needs than Woods could have.

8.) Amateur Draft
We enter with the 13th pick in the first round, as well as 3 picks in the 2nd round and 2 in the sixth.

We see a number of quality players at all positions. We draft a T in the 1st Rd and keep our eye on a CB and G.
Both the CB and G slip to the second round and we grab them both.

Rnd 1 - Patrick Polasek, T, North Carolina State
Rnd 2 - C.J. Reiss, TE, North Carolina
Rnd 2 - Everett Small, G, Stanford
Rnd 2 - Robbie Corbett, CB, Georgia
Rnd 3 - Gary Slutzker, LB, Tulane
Rnd 4 - Shane Schneider, QB, Boston College
Rnd 5 - Hugh Schwartz, FB, Alabama
Rnd 6 - Norbert Flowers, RB, Colorado
Rnd 6 - Jose Loper, WR, Cal. - Sacramento
Rnd 7 - Harvey Singleton, T, Arkansas

9.) Training Camp
The roster is filled out and we head back down to Florida.
Rookie FB Schwartz proves to be a bust, but everyone else holds up.

10.) Exhibition Season Record 1-3.
Unfortunately, our top CB Percy Avant, last years 1st Rd pick, is out for the year.. We were really counting on him this year, but won't have him around.

Our goal this year is to win 9 games and go to the playoffs.
Losing our top CB for the year, and our low cohesion ratings should be our biggest detriments.

We start out sluggish at 1-3. Losing all three games by 6 points or less.
RB Gerald Richardson goes down in week 5 for 2-3 months.....OUCH.
We fall to 2-6, so far a very dissapointing season. But with our top offensive threat and out top defensive player out, we cant expect much.
Starting TE Mark Pearson goes down for the year with an injury.
LB Cris Pape, WR Nolan Beardsley and QB Randal Nelson, in the last year of their contracts, renegotiate.

Injuries crushed us this year, and it showed in our record.

Regular Season Record 6-10. No Playoffs. Ind wins the Super Bowl.
284 PF - 350 PA

Dont worry bout the drought. You are building a core group of guys that will pay dividends in the next five years. I didnt go to the playoffs for the first 6 years while I was building my team, but have been 3 of the past 4 years, twice made it to the Conference Championships and once to the Bowl.

Just think of it this way...you have 25 more years to do well
