Post WLC Richmond Sonic Woodchucks

Well, I figured I'd join in the parade of individual World League Challenge threads with one of my own. This makes a lot more sense than just having the one thread with everybody under the FOF sun cramming in their careers reports.

WLC FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

I've just completed the first season (going slower than most, I'm sure)... and I've just finished the off-season hooplah before the 2018 pre-season games. My first impression is "Holy !@#$", I have a frickin !#@$load of talent going into my second season. Realize I never play with the option of signing free agents during the 20 step process. And I've found quite a bit of talent in steps 11 through 20 in both 2017 and 2018.

The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the level of salaries in three years or so... however, I've pretty much decided to take the strategy of making sure you keep one of your stars wealthy and happy per position.

Being a house-rules nut, I keep forgetting I have the option of signing extensions in the final year of contracts. Through all my game playing under harsh rules, I sorta like the comparative lawless talent stealing nature of WLC, as a change of pace.

2017

I was initially shocked by the amount of talent available in the expansion draft, albeit most of it was overpriced. That compounded by some amazing talent in free agency and a deep draft, and I came out of it all with a much more talented team than I had originally hoped for. Hmm, not going to make these season reports overly extensive. I have a great QB, a good offensive line, and a superb and deep secondary.

-FB Two quality fullbacks
-LB a full corps of solid starting linebackers
-Secondary: some really nice safeties and cornerbacks

Nobody busted. CB Dodge has become a dynamite player... ratings ballooned. A lot of the ratings for my LBs fell with my new scout. Safety Brent Perez goes on IR during preseason. His defensive abilities have totally vanished... he's is only worth keeping for return ability now. However, he was the only casualty coming out of preseason, and that losing my 4th safety is no big deal. We end up going 3-1 in preseason... perhaps a precursor of things to come. Woodchucks fans can only hope.
