Also, S Tim McDonald has retired. He will be sorely missed.

We bump ticket prices up a little bit across the board, hoping to get the fans to help pay for Coach Weaver's salary...

Here's the good news: we've got $37 million in cap room. Here's the bad news-only 24 players under contract. This should be fun...

With D.J. Conquergood under contract, that rules out Ricky Williams as the franchise guy. Since all 3 of our QB are unrestricted free agents, it seems to me I should keep one of them. As much as I like Cade McNown, the franchise tag is going to have to go to Daunte Culpepper. He may not be the QB of the present, but he looks to be better over the long haul. I'll still try to resign McNown, if his salary demand's don't get too ridiculous.

We get offered a 5th round draft pick for S Ronald Coleman. Coleman was our second round draft pick two years ago, with potnetials in the 80's. We respectfully decline...

Well, Cade wants over $9 million for next year, going up for the next two years. Guess he won't be sticking around...

We do submit an offer to Rob Konrad ($7.96/3 yrs). We resign backup C Charles Conway to a 2 year, $1.1 million (total) deal. I'd like to do more, but with a minimum of 21 slots to fill, and only $36.7 million to do it, I don't know how much I can afford to go. Guess we're going to take a SERIOUS cohesion hit this offseason...

Looking for cheapo free agents, we submit offers to TE Reginald Kelly (3 yrs/$4.33 million), T Freddie Gray (2 yrs/$2.21), and S Matthew Posey (2 yrs/$2.34). They may not be the best guys out there, but they are either good now, or have good potentials, so they should be cost-effective.

Nobody signs in Week 1. Ebenezer Ekuban gets a $20.75 miullion/3 yr offer from Tennessee, while St. Louis wants Rich Gannon to the tune of @25.75 million, 3 years.

Still no one signing with us in Week 2, but Ekuban takes his deal with Tennessee. Flozell Adams is offered $11.15/2 yrs by Chicago; Gannon is up to $34.45 million/4 years (Dallas); Everett McIver signs with San Diego for $12.53/3 yrs.

Week 3: Adams signs with Chicago; Gannon with St. Louis; Reginald Kelly resigns with Riverside; and, Freddie Gray joins the Jags. We immediately offer TE Stephen Alexander $4.81/2 yrs to come play in Jacksonville.

Week 4-Alexander resigns with Denver; we offer Stephen Slutzker $4.43/3 years. S Matthew Posey also joins the Jags.

Rob Konrad resigns in Week 7.

Scott Slutzker finally signs in Week 8. By then, his offer is down to $4.20 million for 3 years.

As a last-ditch effort, in Week 20 we make an offer ($9.49/3 yrs) to WR Jason Tucker. We only have Darnay Scott under contract, and need to add a body or two. We also offer CB Darrien Gordon $7.92 million over 3 years. They both sign, leaving us $25.99 million, and only 31 players under contract.

Here's something I didn't know: this year, we don't even have a pick until the 15th pick of the third round. I suspect that we're about to enter a serious rebuilding mode... And it's a QB heavy draft, with 4 QB (including a Hokie) picked in the top 10. I'm trying to move Michael Strahan for a first round pick, primarily to dump his $6 million plus salary, but no one seems to be biting. Plus, if we trade him, we've only got 1 DE under contract-I guess I'll hold on to him...

79. WR Allen Doyle, Syracuse
The biggest impact player left. He's definitely a third WR behind Scott and Tucker, but should be a nice one.

111. G Jimmy Money, Georgia
6'7", 293, and I had him as one of the top guards on the board, period. I expected him to go late 2nd round, and almost grabbed him in the 3rd, but will gladly take him now.

134. QB Pete Glover, Ohio State
Best QB left on the board. He's definitely a backup, graded out in the 30's almost all the way across the board, but we need bodies.

143. LB Grant Golden, Oklahoma State
Another player I'm pleased to find here, as I almost took him at 134. He may be a pretty decent 3rd linebacker, given enough time.

175. TE Kenyon Rayburn, Colorado.
Should develop into a solid TE. How did he slip this far, unless our scout is seriously mistaken?

207. WR Grant Smith, Vanderbilt.
At the very least, a solid special teamer.

Immediately following the draft, we sign Daunte Culpepper to a 3 year, $22.69 million contract. We also sign all our draftees, as well as several undrafted rookies we had our eye on in the draft. Also, floating around in free agency, we find LB Jeremiah Trotter ($6.9/3 yrs) and CB Cris Dishman ($5.44 million, 2 yrs). Plus, somebody drafted QB Chris Uffins in the second round, then let him go. He's got a FANTASTIC upside, and we'll gladly sign him.

We use the scout recommendations for training camp, and then we look to see what happened to our rookies. No major reductions, but a few minor ones. Looks like Smith will only be a special teamer after all...

We also check to see what goodies have been training camp cuts. We bring in WR Eric Moulds, T Stocker McDougle, and LB Peter Boulware.

We end up with 49 players under contract, and we're ready for the season.

2003 Regular Season-1st Half

Tennessee 28, Jacksonville 24
We hit an apparent game winning field goal with 1:07 left in the game, but Tennessee goes 80 yards in only 4 plays, capped off by a 26 yard TD run, to take the game. Daunte Culpepper plays very well in his first start: 20-40, 305 yards, 2 TD. We also lose LB Chris Slade and S Tony George for 2-3 months with injuries.

Jacksonville 37, New York Jets 7
A very well-played game by the Jags. RB D.J. Conquergood (God, I love that name!) earns game MVP, with 22-124, 2 TD. Culpepper is strong, too: 19-30, 233, 1 TD.

Jacksonville 24, Pittsburgh 6
Conquergood strikes again-17-129, 2 TD, MVP. We flat-out overmatch Pittsburgh.

Jacksonville 40, Cleveland 6
The Brownies came down to Florida 3-0; they leave with their tail between their legs. Culpepper earns MVP honors this time:13-20, 252, 3 TD.

Jacksonville 28, Cincinnati 16
Conquergood strikes again, earning MVP honors after racking up 133 yards and 1 TD on only 17 carries.

Jacksonville 27, Oakland 0
The past of the Village Challenge meets the present, and the present wins handily. Conquergood lays the original Village Challengers low, racking up 19-125, with another TD. With the bye week coming up, we've got a lot of minor injuries, so this is a good time for an off-week. We're currently 5-1, with a full game lead over Cleveland, and 2 games over Cincy, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee.

Jacksonville 23, Arizona 7
Another quality team goes down to the Jags: The Cardinals came in at 4-2. Another good day from Conquergood: 22-118, 1 TD, game MVP honors. Culpepper goes 18-30, 244, 1 TD. WR Jason Tucker catches 6 passes, for 109 yards and a TD. LB Chris Slade will be back next week.

Jacksonville 20, Washington 17
Conquergood continues to ride high, with 28 rushes yielding 99 yards and 1 TD, for the MVP honors again. (I don't think I've seen this many MVP honors in one season since Paddy Schwimmer was riding high! Kudos to the one who drafted him!)

At the halfway point, we stand at 7-1, with a 2 game lead over Baltimore, and a 2 1/2 game lead over Cleveland. We stand a game ahead of Seattle for best record in the league, have the second-highest scoring team (223, 4 behind Seattle), and by far the best scoring defense in the league (87 points allowed; Chicago is second, with 104).
Daunte Culpepper is the second-highest rated QB in the league, with a 92.4 rating. He has 1798 yards (#10), 11 TD (#7), and only 5 INT.
D.J. Conquergood sits with 817 yards (#3, behind two guys who have played 9 games to our 8), a 4.9 average, and 9 TD (#1).
Darnay Scott leads the team with 34 catches and 438 yards, while Jason Tucker leads the team with 3 TD catches. Tucker also has a punt return for a touchdown, and 8 returns averaging 36.8 yards per return. We also got a kickoff return for touchdown from CB Drew Humphrey.
Olindo Mare leds the league with 18 field goals (longest from 47 yards), and has been perfect on his 23 conversions. P Craig Hentrich is second in the league in average (44.6 yards per punt), while 21 of his 46 punts were inside the 20.
Rob Burnett leads the team with 5 sacks. Darrien Gordon leads the team with 3 interceptions.

2003 Regular Season-2nd Half

Baltimore 33, Jacksonville 17
We let Billy Joe Tolliver pass for 255 yards against us. I think that about says it all. Conquergood had 75 yards and a TD; Culpepper 14-28, 195, 1 TD, but 3 interceptions.

Pittsburgh 20, Jacksonville 14
Could reality be setting in? Neither team played that well; we played a bit worse. Conquergood had 16-62; Culpepper 210 yards and 1 TD, but only 15-39. Darnay Scott caught 6 passes for 104 yards. We lose Eric Moulds until the playoffs, at least, and bring on JuJuan Dawson to try to fill the gap.

Jacksonville 28, Cleveland 21
Back on track! D.J. Conquergood only has 1 TD, but grinds out 121 yards on 26 carries, and earns MVP honors again. Daunte kicks in 282 yards and 1 TD, but 3 interceptions. Scott breaks 100 yards for the second week in a row, with 7 catches for 102 yards. We rack up 6 sacks, getting 2 from Rob Burnett and 1 1/2 from Michael Strahan. We also lose G Neal Horton until the playoffs; he had started all 11 games for us so far.

Indianapolis 15, Jacksonville 3
We just flat-out played poorly. We had a total of 114 yards total offense, versus 293 for Indy. Conquergood's 11 rushes netted a total of 1 yard. I believe this game would qualify as "fuggly." We're 8-4, a game ahead of Cincinnati, and tied with 6 other teams for best record in the league.

Jacksonville 31, Philadelphia 17
Conquergoodagain: 21-106, 2 TD. We get production from Daunte, too: 22-30, 304, 2 TD. Darnay Scott caught three passes for 93 yards, and 2 TD.

Tennessee 21, Jacksonville 18
We practically dominated this game, except in the final score. We had 339 total yards, to only 191 for Tennessee. Yet again, we had them down late, only to have a late Tennessee touchdown steal the game from us. We're now 9-5, tied, with Cincinnati for the division.

Jacksonville 19, Baltimore 7
Cincinnati keeps pace by defeating Miami. Guess who comes to Jacksonville next week for what a winner-take-all game?

Jacksonville 31, Cincinnati 0
Game, set, match. I believe this is our first division title, and we make the playoffs for the first time since 2000. Who else would win MVP honors but D.J. Conquergood? He explodes for 26-198, 2 TD (ncluding a 63-yarder). We tie for the best record in the league, and get the bye week.

Daunte Culpepper finishes with a rating of 81.7 (#15), 3596 yards (#8), 18 TD, and 16 INT.
D.J. Conquergood finishes with 1544 yards (#3), 4.8 yards per carry (#5), and 18 TD (#1).
Darnay Scott leads the team with 65 catches and 906 yards, while Jaosn Tucker leads with 5 TD catches. Tucker also ends up averaging 31.2 yards per punt return (#5).
Michael Strahan leads the team with 12 sacks, followed by Rob Burnett with 10. Darrien Gordon and Ronald Coleman tie for the team lead with 4 interceptions.

We host 11-6 Miami, coming off their win over Cincinnati. Miami won the East via tiebreaker with Buffalo, and had a +93 point differential. They had the most points scored (423), while we had the stingiest defense (221 points). A classic offense versus defense matchup.

We jump out to an early lead off a Miami turnover, getting the ball deep in Miami territory. A few plays later, D.J. Conquergood scampers 13 yards, and we go up 7-0. We pick off a pass in our red zome on the next drive, but promptly funble the ball back to Miami on their 25. We hold them at our 42, but on the punt, we lose another fumble, giving Miami the ball on our 14. The defense holds them to a field goal, and it's 7-3. The quarter ends with us driving to the Miami 45.

We continue our drive to start the 2nd quarter, getting to the Miami 13. A false start, plus a sack, put us back to the 22 on 4th down, and Mare nails the field goal to put us up 10-3. After trading punts, Peyton Manning drives Miami to the Jags' 29. Our defense stiffens, forcing them to kick another field goal. 10-6, Jags. We again trade punts, getting the ball on our 27 yard line with 24 seconds left. Rather than taking a knee, Daunte fires the ball deep to Darnay Scott, getting down to the Miami 17. An 8-yard run by Conquergood puts us on the 9 with 8 seconds, and 2 time outs. Out comes the kicking team, and Mare hits another field goal as time expires. 13-6, Jaguars, at halftime.

We get the ball to open the third quarter, and march to the Miami 40. We lose 10 for holding, recover 2 on first down, 7 on second down, and 10 on third down. On 4th and 1 the coach sends out Mare again; 16-6. Jags. We trade short drives and punts the rest of the third quarter, and the home crowd roars its approval as we enter the fourth quarter up 16-6.

We have to punt to open the quarter, but quickly force Miami to go four and out. Again, we trade punts, but Miami down the ball at our 3 yard line. The crowd surges to their feet, imploring the offensive line to let the rushing game grind up the clock. On first down, Conquergood picks up 6. A defensive holding penalty takes us out of danger. We get out to the 48, but have to punt with 5:30 remaining. Three quick passes get Miami to the Jacksonville 23. After an offsides penalty, Manning hits Tim Brown at the 3 yard line. 1st down-incomplete. 2nd down-gain of 1. 3rd down-SACK! Hancock nails manning at the 9, much to the delight of the crowd. Miami settles for a field goal with 2:17 left, while the fans cheer a strong goal-line stand. We take the kickoff, and stall out at our 41 yard line, with Miami getting the ball on its own 10 yard line, and 1:12 to play.

Incomplete pass - 1:06. Offensive holding: 2nd and 15. Incomplete pass: 0:53. Another incomlete pass- 4th and 15,5 yard line, 0:47 left. Manning back to pass, here comes Burnett- Manning hurries to get the ball off- INCOMPLETE! We take over on the Miami 5 yard line, with 39 seconds left! We run the clock out, and we're going to the conference finals!

D.J. Conquergood is named game MVP, with 81 yards on 26 carries and 80 yards on 5 catches, including the only touchdown of the game. Daunte completed 13 of 26 for 224 yards and the 1 TD, without an interception. We got 5 sacks from our defense (5 different players), and an interception by Humphrey that killed an early Miami drive.

2003 Playoffs-Conference Finals
Chicago 22, Dallas 17

Seattle gets the opening kickoff, and goes three and out, to the delight of the Jacksonville home crowd. Daunte completes a key 4th and 2 pass to TE Stephen Slutzker at our 36, but we punt on the next series. A sack and an intentional grounding penalty have the Seahawks on their own 3. A flase start makes that the 2 yard line, for 3rd and 27. A 4 yard run gets the 'Hawks breathing room, but gives us field position, starting our next drive at the Seattle 49. We gain 6 yards on first down, nothing on the next two, and the punt goes into the end zone. Can't waste opportunities like this! Three and out for Seattle, and we take over on our 39. A fine drive down the field ends in a 4 yard touchdown pass from Daunte to Slutzker, and we're up 7-0 with 1:04 left in the 1st! We hold Seattle to three and out again for Seattle, and as the first quarter ends, we block the punt and recover on the Seattle 8 yard line!

Two playes later, D.J. Conquergood rambles around the left end for 6 yards into the end zone, and it's 14-0. Seattle drives to the 32 yard line. They stall, and attempt a field goal. We must have Frank Beamer coaching special teams, because we come up with anohter Hokie Special and block the field goal, too! Cortez Kennedy recovers the ball on the 43, and gains 10 yards to the 'Hawks 47. (He also recovered the blocked punt.) We march right back down the field, and when Daunte finds Tucker in the back of the end zone, it's 21-0, Jaguars! That's 21 points in less than 9 minutes. On the next drive, we knock Neil O'Donnell out of the game, but Seattle drives down to the Jaguar 24 yard line. A Scott Zolak pass to the end zone is intercepted by Irving Wynn, and comes out as a touchback. We go three and out, but Seattle finally gets on the board with a 13 yard TD pass with 3:33 left in the half. The very first play after the opening kickoff, D.J. Conquergood finds a hole, and scampers 66 yards for a touchdown! 28-7, Jaguars, with 2:52 left. After a Seattle three and out, we get the ball on our 44. Daunte hits Tucker at the Seattle 11, and we end up getting a 25 yard field goal from Mare to send us to the half up 31-6.

We go three and out on the first drive of the third quarter, but O'Neal of Seattle returns the punt for a touchdown. They botch the extra point, and it's 31-13, Jacksonville. We march to the Seattle 22, but stall, and Mare kicks the field goal attempt-WIDE RIGHT! After another 'Hawks punt, we drive to the 31, and Mare drives the field goal home; 34-13. That's the score as we end the third.

Seattle drives down the field, and adds another touchdown on a 3 yard pass to make the score 34-20. Daunte brings us right back down the field, hitting Darnay Scott for 10 yards and another touchdown: 41-20, 8:10 to play. Seattle strikes back quickley, needing only 1:50 to score another touchdown and bring the score to 41-27. We grind our way down the field, and Seattle is unable to stop our power running game. As the clock winds down to the two minute warning, D.J. Conquergood seals the game with a two-yard TD plunge to make the score 48-27! All over Jacksonville, people start calling their travel agents to make reservations for the Super Bowl! We intercept Zolak at our 19 yard line, and the celebration is on:

WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL, BABY!!!

D.J. Conquergood is again named the game MVP, and a well-deserved award it is: 31 carries, 207 yards, and 3 TD. They also could have selected Daunte Culpepper (23-36, 330, 3 TD, 0 INT). Jason Tucker caught 4 passes for 113 yards and a TD. We got 4 sacks, 2 INT, and 4 hurries from the defense, as Seattle amassed 351 yards, compared to our 593!

2003 Super Bowl

I'll be honest, guys- I didn't expect to be here. I figured after all the turnover we had in the off-season, I'd be putting the pieces together for the next guy to make this run. But, since I'm here, might as well win it, right?

I renegotiate several players before the game. We'll keep the core intact for next year.

Here we go, kids!

Chiacgop receives the opening kick, and after a penalty, had forst and 10 on their 7. The end up on their 4 on 4th down. Way to go, defense! We get the ball for our first possession on the Chicago 40, march down to the Chicago 1, where their defense stiffens. We settle for a field goal, and go up 3-0. We trade ounts the rest of the quarter, but the Bears drive down to our 44 to end the first quarter.

The defense holds, and the Bears punt to open the second. We punt it back, and the Bears get the ball on our 30. CB Ray Gardner comes up with a big interception at our 20 yard line, and returns the ball to the 46! Four plays later, D.J. Conquergood takes the handoff, turns the corner on the right side, and sprints 27 yards for the touchdown! 10-0, Jaguars! Three and out for Chicago gives us the ball on our own 43. Right back down the field we come, culminated by Daunte finding backup FB Harvey Price in the right corner of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown pass! 17-0, Jaguars! The Bears strike back quickly, with a 75-yard TD pass bring the score to 17-7. Daunte is unflappable, bring us right back up the field with a couple of clutch third down completions. Conquergood ends the drive, and the scoring in the first half, with a 5 yard plunge to make the score 24-7.

We get the ball to open the second half, and the opening drive is looking good. Disaster strikes, though, when Daunte is intercepted by Bears CB Curt McCormick, who races 53 yards for a touchdown. 24-14 Jaguars. Daunte atones on the next drive, leading the offense down the field, and finding Eric Moulds in the middle of the end zone for a 10 yard touchdown pass! We trade punts the rest of the third quarter, but as we move to the fourth quarter, we're driving down to the Bears' 17, with a chance to really sew it up.

The drive stalls there, but we add another field goal by Mare, making the score 34-14. We trade punts until about 4 minutes left, when the Jags' defense stuffs a 4th and 7 play on our 42 yard line. We go three and out, but eat up some precious time. Another defensive stand after the punt gives us the ball on the Bears 29, and the fans go crazy! Daunte finds Conquergood in the right corner of the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown pass, and it's 40-14! The clock runs out, and it's time to celebrate!


PRESENTING YOUR SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS, THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS!!!!

D.J. Conquergood sweeps the postseason, earning Super Bowl MVP honors with 144 rushing yards amd 2 rushing TD on 23 carries, plus 7 catches for 112 yards and another TD. Daunte was lights-out in the Super Bowl, completing 21-35 for 342 yards and 3 TD. Eric Moulds caught 8 passes for 102 yards and a TD. We got 2 sacks each from Peter Boulware and Rob Burnett.

Awards:

D.J. Conquergood hit the "quadfecta": NFL MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Super Bowl MVP, and 1st Team All-Pro. (First time I've ever had a player do that! )

* Daunte Culpepper had 2 of the top 10 single-game passing yard totals (342 in the Super Bowl: #7; 330 vs Seattle:#10 )
* D.J. Conquergood's 207 yards agaiunst Seattle is 2nd all-time in the playoffs (Thomas Jones had 238 in 2001). His 144 yards against Chicago was 5th best all-time.
* Conquergood's two games with 3 touchdowns gives him 2 of the four times that a player has scored 3 TD in the playoffs.
* Conquergood's 1544 regular season rushing yards ranks 3rd all time. Interestingly enough, the two players ahead of him set their totals this year as well. Conquergood also tied Tim Biakautuka as the record holder with 18 rushing TD in a single season.

We get a grade of 77 overall for last year. 100 Performance, 71 difficulty, 63 profit, 76 franchise.

We have one retirement: CB Cris Dishman has decided to go out on top. We enter the offseason with 35 players signed, and $18.5 million in cap room. We've got a lot of restricted free agents, though, so hopefully we'll be able to resign many of them. Our coach has 3 years left on his contract; our scout has one. We skip through the staff period. I'm not sure who to franchise, as there are four reasonable cantidates. WR Eric Moulds has been a quality guy in the past, but injuries cost him much of the season last year. WR JaJuan Dawson was a midseason acquisition, but started all 5 games he played for us, and was effective. Believe it or not, I'm seriously considering P Craig Hentrich, as well, as he's the top punter available. Ultimately, though, I decide to franchise LB Peter Boulware, who started all 16 games for us last year. I also boost ticket prices a bit, to take advantage of the post-Super Bowl boost in fan loyalty.

We go after after a few players in free agency-our primary need is at CB, since one of our starters retired.

In week 3, Craig Hentrich signs on for 2 more years.
Week 4, we get the starting CB we seek: Deltha O'Neil signs on 4 4 years, at $24.61 million total. He started 47 of the last 48 games with Seattle, has 7 career picks, and is also an outstanding return man. Eric Moulds signs on with Pittsburgh for over $5million per.
Week 12, a pleasant surprise: after letting us hand for 11 weeks, TE Tony Gonzalez signs on for 3 years, $9.8 million. He's one of the top TE in the game, and can only help us. We turn around and release Scott Slutzker, saving about a million in cap costs.
Week 20, a few last minute additions: WR JuJuan Dawson resigns for 4 years, $20 million; we also bring on LB Sekou Sanyika for 3 years, $8.84 million.

We're at the point that in the draft, we can afford to go best player available. I could really use a safety, though. Lo and behold, at 32, there's a nice looking safety available. I love it when a plan comes together...

Grades out as a strong pass blocker, and an average run blocker. Another position we need a body, and again, best athlete on the board.

This is just working out too well... We need a body here, too, and he's got the best upside, according to our scout.

A ballhawk; should play in nickel and dime situations, but merely a backup otherwise.

A solid pash rusher up the middle, but almost nonexistant against the run.

224. CB Bucky Dawson, Oklahoma
A career backup.

We sign all our draft picks, and pickup undrafted T Julio Turnbull to a 1 year deal. We use the scout's recommendation's for training camp, and hope for no busts... No major busts, though I wouldn't have taken Johnson or Prior as high as I did with what the scout sees now, but now major disappoinments.

If I was the bears, I'd be feeling some serious deja' vu, since we beat them by the same margin in the Super Bowl. D.J. Conquergood picks up where he left off, rushing for 198 yards on 32 carries, and 3 TD. That would be enough to earn him Player of the Week honors. He also broke his hand; he'll play, but with a reduced role, for th enext 3-5 weeks. Daunte added 19-30, 244, 0 INT, and a TD pass to WR Jason Tucker.

Minnesota 24, Jacksonville 21
Conquergood aggravated his hand injury, and is now expected to miss the next 2-3 months. Daunte looked good, going 22-38, 289 yards, 0 INT, and 3 TD passes. WR JuJuan Dawson makes me look good, catching 10 passes, for 189 yards and 1 TD. We sign Graham Odegardso that we have enough bodies.

Jacksonville 24, Pittsburgh 10
The beat goes on: RB David Prior, satrting in place of Conquergood, earns game MVP honors with 28 carries for 131 yards and a TD, and 3 catches for 68 yards and a TD. Daunte still has yet to throw a pick, completing 17-33 for 201 yards and the TD pass to Prior. We get 5 inteceptions on Pittsburgh QB Kordell Stew.. excuse me, Peter Holguin, including the first of what should be very many for Bucky Johnson.

Jacksonville 27, Cleveland 24
Even though we win, Cleveland RB Thomas Jones earns MVP honors. He gets more rushing yards than all 3 of the other teams we've faced were able to get in a game, rushing for 143 yards. Prior rushed for 88 yards and a TD; Daunte completed 18 of 31 for 250 yards and 2 TD, and threw his first pick of the year; Darnay Scott caught 7 for 134 yards. Tony Gonzalez suffered a hyperextended knee, and will miss 2-3 months. As a side note, we're opening the season with a 5 game road trip. Hell of a way to treat the defending champs, don't you think?

Tennessee 34, Jacksonville 3
This one was as ugly as it sounds, as we just didn't show up to play. We had 125 yards of total offense. Ugh. Daunte was knocked out with a sprained ankle, and backup Chris Uffins couldn't do anything. (As a side note, Uffins has some serious potentials going, and will likely replace Daunte when the latter goes free agent.)

Jacksonville 38, Cleveland 24
Our first home game, and we beat down Cleveland. A late touchdown for the Browns makes this one look better than it should. Prior picks up his game again, with 25 rushes for 125 yards and a 5 yard TD run. Daunte was limited, going 12-17 for 116 yards, but 2 TD and 0 picks.

Jacksonville 17, Indianapolis 14
A close game, but we hand Indy their second loss of the season. Mike Strahan gets the glory, with 2 sacks, a pass defensed, and 3 tackles. Prior goes 19-378, and Daunte 15-27-186, with a TD and an interception. The defense sacks 39 year old Indy QB Steve Beuerlein 6 times, making him wish he had decided to retire last year. Up next week, 5-2 Pittsburgh in a battle for the top of the division. Conquergood and Gonzalez will play next week.

Jacksonville 37, Pittsburgh 31
This one goes into overtime, where David Prior puts the game away with a 3 yard TD run. Conquergood was ineffective; Prior had 35 rushes for 115 yards and 2 TD. Daunte earned MVP honors, completing 26 of 37 for 278 yards, 2 TD, and 1 INT. #rd wide receiver Allen Doylehad 6 catches, 65 yards, and both touchdowns. Rob Burnett added 1.5 sacks.

After 8 games, we are 6-2, a half game ahead of Tennessee, and a full game ahead of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

Daunte has thrown for 1658 yards (#8 in the league), 12 TD (tied for 2nd)and has a 91.3 QB rating (#3). Despite only starting 5 games, David Prior has been more than adequate in place of Conquergood, rushing for 525 yards (#7 in the league) and 6 TD (#5). Darnay Scott leads the team with 39 catches (#11) and 459 yards (#17), while Allen Doyle has 4 TD catches (tied for 4th in the league). Rob Burnett and Michael Strahan each have 6 sacks, tying them for 12th in the league. Ronald Coleman leads the team with 3 INT, tying him for 9th in the league. We've also had a kick return for a TD, as Jason Tucker took one back.

2004 Regular Season-2nd Half

Cincinnati 20, Jacksonville 17
Cinci ties the game up with 53 seconds left in the 4th quarter, and wins it on a field goal with 1 second left in overtime. Daunte carried the load, completing 30-48 for 274 and a TD to Jason Tucker. He also found Tucker for the two-point conversion. Olindo Mare added 3 field goals, including one with 1:54 left that appeared to give us the game. We have the bye week coming up; hopefully Conquergood and Gonzalez[/b] will be ready to go the rest of the way afterwards, especially since David Prior pulled a groin(his own, I hope) and will be hobbled for 3-5
weeks.

Cincinnati 20, Jacksonville 17
Another late comeback for Cincy, getting two Ryan Longwell field goals in the last 9:02 (including the gamewinner with 2 seconds left). 3 Mare field goals, a Tucker 57 yard punt return for TD, and a Conquergood run for conversion were all the scoring we could muster. We're now a game behind both Tennessee and Cincy (effectively 2 back of the Bengals, as they hold the tiebreak).

Jacksonville 24, Baltimore 21
Conquergood makes his return obvious to the Ravens, gaining 88 yards on 14 carries for game MVP honors. Among Daunte's 22 completions for 242 yards were TD passes to Darnay Scott and Jason Tucker. Burnett picked up 2 sacks. We're a game back of Tennessee, tied with Cincinnati and Pittsburgh at 7-4. Speaking of Tucker, he tore a calf muscle, and will likely miss the rest of the year. Conquergood rebroke his hand (they said he was healthy) and is out until the playoffs.

Jacksonville 16, Green Bay 13
The injuries continue to mount: Tony Gonzalez reinjured his knee, and is out until the playoffs, while LB Jeremiah Trotter injured his triceps, and will probably miss the rest of the year. We keep pace with Cincy and Tennessee, as Pittsburgh loses to Cincy to fall another game back.

Jacksonville 26, Tampa Bay 21
Somehow, despite all the injuries, we keep winning. Chicago knocks off Tennessee, while Cleveland gets their second win of the year against Cincy (oddly enough, the only other team they've beaten is Tennessee.)

Cincy loses again, but Tennessee beats Pittsburgh. Tennessee is 10-4, we're 9-5, Cincy and Pittsburgh are 8-6. The injuries continue to mount, as we lose starting G Jimmy Money to a broken tibia. See you next year, Jimmy.

Tennessee defeats Baltimore, ending our chance at a division title. We're currently behind Indy and Cincy for the last wildcard spot.

With Indy and CIncy losing, we're in the playoffs! We earn the 5 seed, meaning we'll face 12-4 Miami in the wild-card round. Considering all the injuries we've hade to endure, though, I'll take making the playoffs. If we can get hot at the right time...

QB: Daunte finishes with 3508 yards (#9), 18 TD (#9), and a rating of 82.4 (#9).
RB: Prior's groin pull cost him a shot at 1000 yards, as he ended up with only 655, and 6 TD. Conquergood finsihed with 322 yards-3 TD, while 3rd string Vernon Banks started 3 games and had 323 yards and 2 TD.
WR: JuJuan Dawson led the team with 68 catches and 890 yards, while Allen Dawson had a team-leading 5 TD catches.

2004 Playoffs

Gonzalez will come back for the first round game, but Conquergood will not

On the opening drive, we get to the Miami 39 easily. The drive stalls, and we settle for a 46-yard field goal from Mare to take the early lead in this in-state battle. We hold Miami to three and out, and take over with great field position on on our own 47. We drive right down the field, and cap off the drive with a 14 yard TD pass fromn Daunte to Allen Doyle tp go ahead 10-0, with four and a half minutes left in the first. The quarter ends with Miami driving deep in Jaguars territory.

Miami gets on the board to open the second quarter, as Payton Manning finds Joey Galloway for a 5 yard TD, making the score 10-7. We go back down the field, and get a 41 yard field goal from Olindo Mare to put us up 13-7. Manning brings them right back down the field, finding Yancey Thigpen for a 14 yard TD. They miss the extra point, though, and the game is tied at 13. Daunte comes up with some big plays, getting us down to the Miami 3 with 48 seconds left. David Prior scoots off the right tackle into the end zone, and the Mare extra point puts us up 20-13 to end the half.

Manning zips the Dolphins down the field to open the second half, taking only 3:22 before finding Peerless Price for a 15 yard TD pass to tie the game up. Two plays later, Daunte gets sacked on our 21. He coughs up the football, and Jason Peter rumbles 21 yards with the fumble to put Miami up by 7. Another Jaguar drive stalls, and Mare's third field goal of the day makes the score 27-23. Manning picks us apart again, finding Galloway on a 12 yard TD pass to open the lead to 34-23 as time expires in the third quarter.

We go three and out to open the fourth. Payton's 5th TD pass of the day is a 28 yarder to Yancey Thigpen, and we're down 41-23 with only 11:23 to play. Daunte gets picked off in the end zone with 9:21 to play, and the Miami celebration begins. A late Miami field goal makes the final margin 44-23.

right, been a while since i fired up FOF2001, CM00/01 arrived and has dominated my gaming time of late, and i thought i'd hang out till a patch to stop the crashing arrived too. by turning off the graphics acceleration that does enable me to play without crashes though, so there shouldn't be any worries of that here! so on with the show! this report brought to you in association with aerial m, who provided the backing music and stop me from yelling too loud at the PC by being very calming.

5 fellows join the Hall, I guess these are the guys we'll be seeing head in in real life soon. Bruce Smith, Warren Moon, Jerry Rice, Bruce Matthews and Darrell Green. actually, Darrell will probably still be playing in 2005.

our coach is locked up for 2 more seasons, and that's good to see, the man is a class act! scouting-wise, we need a new fella. now, he comes at a price, but new man, Tito Paul, will sign on for 3 years at $800k, the 2nd highest paid scout in the league. Paul however rates: QB: EX, RB: EX, WR: G, OL: VG, K: VG, DL: EX, LB: F, S: G, YT: VG

i hope he'll pay off.

i raise ticket prices as we lost $33m last year, and fans are loyal. heh. all things being well, they'll stay that way.

we have 35 players signed, are $14m below the cap, and 15 free agents, though of those 15, only 3 are unrestricted, which should help. fingers crossed. on the retirement side, our DL took a hit as Rob Burnett and Cortez Kennedy have hung up their uniforms.

not sure where to use the franchise tag. most of our free agents are moderate players. the best is C Burt Conway, who was picked up as a free agent last year and has never started a game for us. i think i'll tag him and then trade away either Conway or Mitchell. Mitchell is a veteran, but has slightly lower stats than Conway and is 5 years his elder and Conway still has some growing to do. hmm.

recieve a number of trade offers. one of those that benefits us is trading away backup FB, Harvey Price, to the Colts for TE Rich Black. Black won't usurp Tony Gonzalez' position at starter, but we only have one TE on the roster, and Black looks a nice prospect. i try to tempt them into throwing a draft pick in but they don't bite, and then they decide that they don't even want to do the straight up deal. frustrating. so i leave it on the table. the Seahawks want to poach Culpepper. no dice. nor am I trading our only good CB, Deltha O'Neill and solid S, Ron Coleman.

i reneg with Culpepper to get him to extend his contract by 2 more seasons. Jason Tucker and Darnay Scott are also given extended deals to keep them on side.

our free agents are demanding ludicrous deals and i won't give in to any of them. $3m minimum for some very mediocre guys. so going into free agency, i need to acquire a defensive lineman, and some support for our secondary.

free agency is really way out of our price range this season. i pick up 2nd year S Doug Watkins on a one year, $1.15m deal and TE Bart Burnett for 2 years at $2.72m. both have a bit of developing to do still though.

i then decide that we really do need to shift C Jeff Mitchell, so i trade him and 2nd year safety Bucky Johnson (raking in a rather hefty salary) to the Vikings for classy S Sam Shade and a 7th round draft pick.

G Justin Clancy signs a 3 year, $3.2m deal to be a solid backup for us. then i trade one of our other G, Tracy Sampson, to the Dolfish for DT Andy Bailey, a position we needed solidifying at.

there is nobody else i can see out there who will help this team, so it's onto the draft...

we pick 24th.

1. Shannon McClinton, DT - Oregeon, 6'4, 285lb

Shannon is the obvious pick for me. he rates currently as 50/44, whilst has the potential to get to 92/81. he is far superior to anyone still on the board at this point, and if our scout has got this one right, he is a star for years to come.

at this point, in the second round, there is a great safety on the board and i trade our 4th safety and a 5th round pick to the Chargers for 2nd year T Brad Bopp, a position which this draft is seriously lacking in.

2. Duane Laxdal, S - Northern Arizon, 5'9, 210lb

this guy is a mean package. scout reckons he can max out at run defense. he isn't shabby on the pass defense side either. a solid pick at this stage who can do a real job for us.

i'm going to pull another trade. RB David Prior goes to the Ravens for 4th and 6th round selections. this allows me to pick:

3. Donny Burress, RB - Akron, 5'9, 187 lb

this guy is the ideal foil for Conquergood. he already scores a 96 on breakaway speed and our scout figures he can make it to 95 on yards per carry. he also scores highly on 3rd down running and catching. he is an interesting addition to the roster.

4. Will Rivera, C - Texas A&M, 6'1, 323lb

an extremely solid backup C with high endurance ratings. just what we needed to cover this position.

4. Casey Bandhauer, QB - Northwestern, 6'1, 228lb

our 3rd string QB. very solid middling ratings. another useful acquisition.

6. Jackie Congdon, TE - Texas, 6'5, 250lb

this sizeable TE is another useful pickup at this stage. he can block well, has good hands and will make 3rd down receptions. surprisingly good ratings for a player down in the 6th round.

6. Lorenzo Martin, CB - California, 6'0, 178lb

moderate player, will serve as a backup as well as handling kick / punt return duties when required. has a lot of developing to do.

7. Phillip Smeenge, LB - Maryland, 6'6, 271lb

chunky lad for a LB, he has a tonne of growth to do, but if he makes it he will be more than worthy of this 7th round draft selection.

7. Darren Daniel, DE - California, 6'4, 252lb

theoretically, he and Smeenge should swap positions, based on their size. but hey. Daniel is a total reach. he has a huge upside in endurance, but little else to offer. i am playing the hunch and hoping he might turn out ok. we'll see.

and that's the draft. all the guys sign and we head into training camp.

following training camp, we have 46 guys on the roster and $320k to play with. oh well!

here is how we line up:

Culpupper is under center, with Conquergood and Price in the backfield. our main WR are Dawson and Scott, with Gonzalez at TE. the line is Collins, Nutten, Conway, Money and Runyan. on defense, Hancock, McClinton, Bailey and Strahan are the 4 DL, and Sanyika, Boulware, Slade and Trotter the LB. in the secondary it's O'Neal, Gordon, Shade and Coleman. returning kicks are Tucker and O'Neal. Mare kicks and Hentrich punts.

71,500 season tickets are flogged to the unsuspecting masses, who i suspect are going to be in for a pretty average year, unless Conquergood can really dominate.

no idea why we had 3 games against NFC Central opponents. anyway, now for the good news: no injuries! hurrah. always nice to have that situation facing week one, where we travel to Baltimore, who've only finished above .500 once so far.

week 1: at Baltimore: 14-24 (LOSS: 0-1)

worst news is DE Michael Strahan going down for 3 to 5 weeks, he will be seriously missed. we had our running game going but Culpepper showed signs of early season rust in throwing for 3 interceptions.

week 2: vs St. Louis: 10-0 (WIN: 1-1)

well, we shut them down. Anderson rushed 16 times for 17 yards for them, and we kept Couch from estabilishing himself, he only had 190 yards and threw 2 interceptions, meanwhile they were shutting down Conquergood and had 2 picks off Culpepper but Daunte had 304 yards and spread the ball around evenly to our best recievers. 3 sacks, including one for rookie Smeenge.

week 3: vs Cleveland: 41-14 (WIN: 2-1)

well, 2-0 Cleveland were given a shock! again we held an opponents starting RB to less than a yard a carry, and an opposing QB to completing less than 50% of their passes. Conquergood had his first break out game of the year in scampering for 181 yards, meanwhile Culpepper threw for 243 and completed 17 of 23 passes. Tucker led the way with 104 recieving yards. Daniel and Davison combined for 2.5 sacks.

week 4: at Pittsburgh: 31-34 (LOSS: 2-2)

they beat us in a squeaker. on a FIFTY SIX yard over-time field goal. can you believe that? sickening. we were solid offensively, but couldn't stop their RB Kaufman (142 yards) or QB Holguin (329 yards, 3 TD's).

week 5: at San Francisco: 44-3 (WIN: 3-2)

that's how to win a ball game. Deltha O'Neal recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a TD and later had an 89 yard punt return for another 6 points. rookie RB replaced Conquergood who left the game with injury (he is go for next week though), and rushed for 92 yards on 15 carries. Culpepper was 19 of 24 fo 210 yards, TE Gonzalez had 103 yards catching, and we had 4 sacks to go with all that.

week 6: vs Cincinnati: 23-21 (WIN: 4-2)

an important win over divisional rivals. they executed well on offense, but we did just enough. no-one stood out on our team at all, apart from Strahan with 2 sacks and a pass block, but everyone just did their job and we got away with a win.

week 7: vs New Orleans 38-21 (WIN: 5-2)

we crushed their running game, led 28-0 at the half and forced them to go to the air 47 times, earning us three interceptions. Conquergood ground them up by rushing for 130 yards on 24 carries, and Culpepper was average. 7 sacks, with Strahan leading the way for 2.5. 3 interceptions also.

week 8: at Atlanta 30-17 (WIN: 6-2)

this was a needed win on the road over a 1-5 team, one of those games you always dread. we now lead the division after our 2-2 start. we have no serious injuries, DE Bailey is the only one out more than 2 weeks. this game was sealed crucially when at 17-17 with 24 ticks left on the clock, Culpepper aired one out 80 yards to rookie TE, Jackie Congdon. Moments later, LB Pete Boulware rumbled 90 yards on an interception return on the final play of the game. 'Pep' was 23 of 32 for 344 yards, but none of our recievers had more than 80 yards (and that was Congdon on his singular catch).

week 9: at Tennessee 20-23 (LOSS: 6-3)

despite 119 yards recieving from Tucker we just couldn't get this one done after being down 20-3 at the half. close but no cigar.

week 10 - our bye

week 11: Tennessee 9-17 (LOSS: 6-4)

annoying defeat as it allowed the Titans to draw even with us at 6-4 after sweeping us in consecutive games. they stopped our groundgame, saved us through the air for 369 yards, and broke poor Daunte's finger when he had gone 7 of 8 for 80 yards. Uffins came in and was entirely respectable, 10 of 18 for 125 yards, but we had no ground attack.

week 12: Pittsburgh 14-16 (LOSS: 6-5)

a heart breaker against the division leaders. we were just unable to do what was necessary. Culpepper threw for 4 interceptions and we were never going to win with that kind of performance.

week 13: Cincinnati 23-17 (WIN: 7-5)

vital win, we got it in overtime when Deltha O'Neal ran back the OT kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. way to go! Conquergood had a good game, and Burress smashed for 83 yards on 3 carries. Culpepper was solid, and O'Neal had a pick to go with that return.

mad stat: rookie RB Donny Burress has 57 carries for 379 yards and a 6.6 yard per carry average. not bad going.

week 14: Baltimore 27-3 (WIN: 8-5)

another big win, this pulled us back ahead of the Ravens in the division race. the Steelers are 10-3. we desroyed them on the ground. Conquergood rammed for 174 yards on 15 carries, and was ably backed up by Burress who had 65 on 9 attempts. Strahan had 3 of the teams 7 sacks.

week 15: New York Jets 37-34 (WIN: 9-5)

a humdinger versus the 8-5 Jets here, we raced out to a big lead but they scored 20 4th quarter points to make it frighteningly close. Conquergood and Burress were held up by the Jets D, but Culpepper found his arm to throw for 259 yards and 4 TDs. 2 picks for the veteran Darrien Gordon.

week 16: Miami 10-30 (LOSS: 9-6)

ouch. no running game, 5 interceptions (2 of Culpepper who was forced out with a toe injury, and 3 of Uffins). that was a horrid performance.

we are 9-6 and lurking on the playoffs. a win will see us in. if we lose, we could still get in, depending on what happens elsewhere. we travel to 7-8 Cleveland.

week 17: at Cleveland 17-10 (WIN: 10-6)

well, we made it! and the only player with an injury problem for the playoffs is LB, Pete Boulware. Conquergood ran well for 105 yards on 19 carries, and Uffins did great, spelling the minorly injured Culpepper, who was 7 of 9 for 89 yards when he was fit. Darnay Scott had 140 yards recieving, and 4 sacks were nice.

we face the Ravens on the road in the wild card. and they bounce us, 38-24. i don't feel like writing the report in Cubsfan-esque detail. heh, sorry. run out of enthusiasm after that one. suffice to say, 4 picks of Culpepper didn't do us much good.

Washingston wound up beating the Steelers 13-10 in the superbowl.

QB - Culpepper had a solid year, with 3402 yards and 23 TD's, but 22 picks too. he had a rating of 82.6, which is just above his average. Terry Uffins is still developing, he had 462 yards, and 2 TD's to get his 70.2 rating.

RB - Conquergood had 1282 yards and 9 TDs, and Burress was a capable backup with 503 yards and a pair of TD's, though his ypc dropped off to 5.3 by the end of the year. Conquergood was still getting back on track after his injury hit 2004.

WR - Darnay Scott and Jason Tucker had 843 and 826 yards respectively. Scott also led the team in TD's and catches. TE Gonzalez had 599 yards.

Returns - O'Neal was godlike, he had 2 touchdowns and high averages returning punts and kicks

Ints - our secondary did ok, O'Neal had 6 picks and Gordon had 5. Coleman defensed 11 passes. O'Neal had a 37.0 PDQ

Fumbles - Conquergood had 7. hmm.

AWARDS:

Mo Collins was 1st team tackle, amd rightly so. he only allowed 2 sacks all year and was good at run blocking. Deltha O'Neal was 1st team CB for his outstanding season. Conquergood was 2nd team RB, a nice comeback.

Traded Bucky Johnson? Man, you're KILLING me.. I almost made him my keeper... I hope that Laxdal can step in; I don't remember much depth at safety.

Nice to see O'Neal stepping up on special teams! One of the reasons I picked him up last year, over a couple CB's with comparable or slightly better defensive skills, was his return ability.

Not a bad season, Andy. Hopefully, Conquergood can put his injury problems behind him and we can make a run at the Super Bowl next year!

aye, Conway was very decent. he gave up 5 sacks settling in, but his ratings showed him to be at least as good as Mitchell, and he had the upside of youth. Mitch posted very similar numbers at his new team, the Vikings.

Bucky Johnson was almost your keeper? he's pretty mediocre!

well, i did change scouts. it's possible that our previous scout liked him a lot and our new one thought he wasn't up to much. which was right? guess we'll have to wait and see!

anyway, the next season should be underway when i get home in a couple of hours. here's hoping Conquergood can score 18 TD's again

i score 63. our worst yet. heh. our big problem is that we are losing a whole tonne of money, and hiring that genius scout didn't help in that regard.

entering the hall of fame is Randall Cunningham. yay!

we lose two guys to retirement, LB Jeremiah Trotter and T John Runyan. hmm. i think Trotter retired through injury, as he was banged up towards the end of last year. no idea why Runyan packed it in. it would be nice to know these things!

all our staff is under contract for the season, so nothing to worry about there.

S Ronald Coleman is designated franchise player. the only other guy worthy of consideration was Darrien Gordon.

we have 35 players signed and are $21m under the cap, which gives us some flexibility. after extending a few guys contracts we are still around $21m under the cap, but we have some very good player signed up for more seasons at their current salaries or around that level. Pter Boulware was even happy to take a $2m a year pay cut, nice one! releasing aging veteran Chris Slade frees up a couple more mil.

in free agency we snaffle CB Leland Jacobs, 5th year, for $14.5m over 2 years. he and O'Neal will be a fearsome duo. a couple of weeks later we shore up our D even further by bringing in 6th year LB, Ted Johnson, for $18.23m over 3 years. he will lead the corps. at the end of free agency we get 2nd year T, Tyrus Graham, for $3m over 3 seasons. he'll be a solid backup.

nobody else is worth picking up at this stage. either too expensive, or unskilled. so we bow out of free agency here.

onto the draft, where we pick 23rd overall...

1, Rico Brock - LB, 6-0, 257lb, Texas A&M

it's slim pickings, but this well rounded LB looks like he'll go on to establish himself as a starter in the near future. not outstanding, but definitely worth a first round pick.

2, Darren Rose - WR, 5-10, 186lb, Minnesota

we have a good trio of wideouts, but they are aging and we need some youth at the position. Rose will provide good cover at the position as he already has developed his current ratings quite well.

3, Luther Sierra - LB, 5-11, 208lb, Missouri

a handy cornerback. there isn't much left in the draft already, so this guy will be our #4 guy. he has a lot of development required though.

4, Russell DiMaggio - DE, 6-2, 307lb, Florida State

another player who needs to develop. he should be a great run defender by the time he puts in a year or two as backup.

5, Clay Breckterfield - DT, 5-11, 271lb, Boston U

very similar to DiMaggio. except he plays at DT.

6, Mitch Henson - WR, 5-11, 197lb, Indiana

another backup WR. should fill the position for a couple of years.

7, Cris Fisher - S, 5-10, 190lb, Jacksonville State

rounding out a boring draft is this S. another backup. i can't get excited about anyone i picked. just a bunch of roster fillers. never mind!

Culpepper is back at QB, with the familiar backfield of Conquergood and Price. Gonzalez is still a standout TE, the WR are Dawson ant Tucker. the OL is Collins, Nutten, Conway, Clancy and Bopp. the DL is Hancock, Bailey, McClinton and Strahan. the LB are Sanyika, Johnson, Smeenge and Boulware, whilst in the secondary we have O'Neal, Jacobs, Coleman and Shade. Mare kicks, Hentrich punts, O'Neal handles returns.

well, here is how pre-season went:

week 1 - vs Tennessee : 35-10 (WIN: 1-0)

way to start! they owned the ball, we owned them, they had more yards than us, and 13 minutes more possession than us. but we held their RB Villasensor to 33 yards on 20 carries, and had 3 picks of Air McNair. Conquergood got off to a slow start, Culpepper was decent, and those 3 picks were shared between new CB Jacobs (2) and O'Neal. nice tandem.

week 2 - vs Cleveland : 9-10 (LOSS: 1-1)

they held Conquergood to 11 yards on 14 carries, and Culpepper was relieved by Uffins due to injury, only for Uffins to prove ineffective. Shade and Jacobs had picks, rookie Rico Brock scored us a safety, but we had no offense.

week 3 - vs Pittsburgh : 33-27 (WIN: 2-1)

nice win over last years superbowl runners up. we only had 15 first downs all game, but we simply didn't need them because Conquergood was rushing for 220 yards on 24 carries for 2 touchdowns, and Culpepper simply did his job. Mare was 4 for 4 on field goals, Coleman, Jacobs and Shade had picks, of which Coleman returned his for a 93 yard TD. disaster struck though. DE Strahan is out for 2 to 3 months.

week 4 - vs Cincinnati : 33-15 (WIN: 3-1)

impressive victory against previously unbeaten Bengals. our run defense stuffed them up bad, and we had a combined 5 picks of their 2 QB's, Hamilton only managed to complete 12 of 39 passes. DJ rambled for 102 yards on 24 carries, and Culpepper was respectable, completing 5 passes for 102 yards to Tucker. a remarkable occurence - DE Darren Daniel had TWO interceptions. i'd never even noticed a lineman get one before!

week 5 - vs New England : 23-20 (WIN: 4-1)

Culpepper came alive in this one, completing 19 of 27 passes for 313 yards and a pair of touchdowns. we came back from 20-9 down with 4:15 on the clock to score on TD passes to Henson and then Tucker for 69 yards to steal the win.

week 6 - vs Baltimore : 23-28 (LOSS: 4-2)

we just failed to execute here. nothing good to note. DE Kyle Hancock is done for the season with repetitive concussion syndrome, which is not nice. his ratings have taken a dramatic hit, and we'll miss this starter who had 6 sacks last year. Strahan is still out.

week 7 - vs Cincinnati : 20-26 (LOSS: 4-3)

we need a week off as the injuries are mounting. Cincy beat us on a Stephen Davis TD in overtime. Culpepper was 16 of 27 for 200 yards. Ted Johnson led the defense for 2 sacks.

week 8 - vs Pittsburgh : 13-38 (LOSS: 4-3)

humbled by the Steelers. we were awful. Conquergood has broken his arm and is done till the playoffs. he was struggling anyway, 3.7 ypc.

week 9 - vs New York Giants : 24-31 (LOSS: 4-5)

we are officially in trouble. that defeat came against 1-6 New York. Burress rushed for 149 yards, but Culpepper came out of the game with injury. Uffins stepped in and was adequate, 14 of 27 for 220 yards and 2 TD's. but we need to win these games.

week 11 - vs Miami : 38-12 (WIN: 5-5)

that's more like it! i adapted our gameplan for more passing, what with Conquergood missing, and Culpepper went wild. 18 of 24 for 405 yards and 3 touchdowns. also impressive were 6 sacks.

week 12 - vs San Diego : 13-6 (WIN: 6-5)

bit of a squeaker against the Chargers, but it came at a severe cost. DE Amos Gorham is done til the playoffs, and RB Burress busted up his jaw, he's done for the year. ARRRRRRGH. anyone care to explain how to sign two guys for $120k? heh. ah! Deltha O'Neal renegotiated with me for a 3 year deal and that freed up $1.5m. alright!!! our starting running back is now some bum called Earl Diaz. he had 661 yards rushing for Baltimore in 2004, and has had 81 yards for us in 2 games this year. here's to Earl!

week 12 - vs Baltimore : 19-16 (WIN: 7-5)

huge win! this puts us into a tie for 2nd in the division with the Ravens. Conquergood is rumoured to be back in 3-5 weeks. phew Diaz rushed for 33 yards on 17 carries. Culpepper was good though, 299 yards passing, 118 to Tucker.

week 14 - vs Dallas : 26-3 (WIN: 8-5)

our D shut them down, but we lost our THIRD defensive end for the entire season. Darren Daniel hooks up with Kyle Hancock and Amos Gorham in the emergency room. Daniel had 6 sacks and 2 interceptions, belying his ratings. man alive. somebody call a doctor! his replacement will be RJ Karczewski. no need to learn his name, he'll be injured in a week. anyway, back to the game, Uffins was starting QB and had 269 yards without an interception. Diaz had 26 yards on 26 carries. thank Mare for 4 field goals, the D for 6 sacks, and Sanyika for a TD on an interception return. OH MY GOOD GOD. can it get any worse? i have just noticed that Deltha O'Neal is done for the year too. i can't take much more of this!!! i have to release backup FB Rob Conrad to make the money available to get a 4th CB.

week 15 - vs Tennessee : 41-21 (WIN: 9-5)

ok, i give up. how did that happen? Diaz had 57 yards rushing, but Culpepper came through and lit up for 397 yards and 4 touchdown passes. Tucker had 146 of those yards. injuries? oh nothing much, Conquergood aggravated his arm injury and is out for the year.

week 16 - vs Washington : 34-31 (WIN: 10-5)

the skins were 9-5 too. we beat them, 6 minutes into overtime. we required 14 4th quarter points to even tie the score up, but we got those and got level on a Diaz 8 yard run with 3 minutes to go. Diaz had 46 yards overall, Culpepper had 354 passing yards.

week 17 - vs Cleveland : 31-12 (WIN: 11-5)

you can't ask anything more of this team. SEVEN straight wins to make it to the playoffs, missing a star RB, and our best corner. we finished two games behind the Steelers, but 11-5 with this injury list is staggering. Diaz had 68 rushing yards, Culpepper had 3 TD's and 3 interecptions against him.

in the playoffs we face 11-5 Buffalo. out for us is Conquergood, Burress, Daniel, and O'Neal, Amos Gorham and Kyle Hancock. carrying injuries are Darnay Scott, Burt Conway, Lorenzo Martin, Duane Laxdal, Sekou Sanyika, and Darren Rose.

the Bills travel to Jacksonville and the sell out 73,000 crowd is on hand to roar us on in the rain. the Bills win the toss and recieve, returning the kick up to their 26. Batch comes out passing, and hits Dunn on 2nd down for 8. 3rd and 2, Batch drops back, he looks, he spots a man open 8 yards downfield, fires to Dunn and... Coleman picks him off! Coleman throws a move on Dunn and is off! 30.....20......10...... TOUCHDOWN JAGUARS! COLEMAN! Mare makes the PAT. Buffalo come out again and masterfully drive for 80 yards over the next 6 minutes, ending in a 1 yard TD pass from Batch to Fauria. we had no answers on this one as they repeatedly converted on 3rd down. so our first offensive possession. we get the ball at our 45 after WR Turner runs the kickoff back 35 yards. we get off to a good start when Pep hits Tucker for 12, and Price then scampers for 14 yards to get the ball to the Buffalo 29, alas a holding penalty halts us and we settle for a 48 yard field goal from Mare. 10-7. Buffalo fail to generate anything and are forced to punt at our 48. the snap to Fuchs is wobbly, Fuchs takes his time lining it up and Sanyika is storming through! Fuchs kicks! OH MY! SANYIKA GOT A HAND ON IT! the ball is rolling down field, incredible play for the Jags! Fuchs recovers his own kick, but we have it, 1st and 10 at their 31. we go 3 and out and settle for a Mare 51 yard FG. 13-7, now in the 2nd period.

the teams exchange punts, and we get the ball back with just over 3 minutes to go in the half. Culpepper uses Tucker to get the ball into their half, but a couple of timely sacks stalls us at their 39. Mare trots out onto the field, this is a big one. 56 yards, with 22 seconds to go in the half. the ball is snapped, the spot is down, and MARE CRUSHES IT! WHAT A KICK BY MARE! 16-7 Jags.

we then kick off again, and Myers takes the return in the endzone, he looks for a hole, he's got running room, up to the 10, beats a man, he's at the 24, Henson lines up the tackle. AND LEVELS HIM! the BALL POPS LOOSE! SIERRA HAS IT! HE'S OFF! INSIDE THE 15, BREAKS A TACKLE! TO THE 10! OH! HASTINGS BRINGS HIM DOWN! and with 4 seconds on the clock, we settle for a 25 yard field goal from Mare. 19-7 Jags at half time.

our first drive of the 2nd half is perfectly executed and we take 5 minutes to get a TD courtesy of Gonzalez (who had 2 key catches on the drive), and put us up 26-7. alas, C Conway was injured on the play and left the game.

punts are exchanged, and at the end of the quarter, Buffalo are driving deep in Jacksonville territory, with a first down at our 13. 5 plays later, they are scoring on a Batch pass to Fauria. they set up for the 2 point conversion, but fail, leaving us ahead at 26-13 with 14 minutes on the clock.

we punt away our next possession without making a dent on the clock or on the field. punts are exchanged a couple of times, and the Bills get the ball again at their own 1 after a tremendous punt from Hentrich. 10 minutes to play. they move it 8 yards before punting again. first and ten at the Bills 45. Culpepper dropping back to pass. BLINDSIDED BY HARDEN! Culpepper loses the football! its' rolling around back there! and Bills DE Pryce has it! OH NO! THE BILLS GOT THE FOOTBALL! and two plays later, Batch connects to Vaughn for 42 yards and a TD, the PAT is good, the score is 26-20 with 6 minutes to play. the Jags fans are getting jumpy. and rightly so. Diaz misses a first down by a yard on 3rd and 6, and we punt it away. Hentrich booms one again, down to the BIlls 5. classy stuff. they are going to need a big drive, and things are looking very ominous when they complete a 4th and 10 pass at their own 16 to Vaughn. Bills come out of the shotgun on 1st and 10 at their 32 with a minute 15 to play. Batch has the ball from the snap. he's looking deep. Vaughn is screaming for it down field, Batch pumps, he's throwin a hail mary up for grabs, Vaughn leaps with a Jags defender.... AND WEAVER HAS IT! WEAVER PICKED HIM OFF! WEAVER SETS OFF! A THIRTY YARD RETURN! UNBELIEVABLE! we have the ball in Buffalo territory but 3 rushes fail to shift the ball and with 42 seconds on the clock, we punt again. last gasp now for the Bills, Batch sets up to throw again, nobody open deep and he looks to dink one, but NO! Weaver picks him off AGAIN! Weaver scampers 25 yards for the TD and surely that must seal it!

it's a fair day in New York, and 87,700 are on hand to see the show down between the Jags and the Jets. Jacksonville win the coin toss and recieve the kickoff.

first possession starts at the 17, and following key plays from Price (13 yard run) and Scott (48 yard pass reception), Culpepper hits Dawson for 15 yards and a TD to put us up 7-0 with just 3 minutes gone. the Jets drive back but are forced to punt from our 36. another great drive is put together by Culpepper, he makes great connections with Tucker (19 yards) and Dawson, and on 3rd and 2 from the Jets 7, he finds Scott wide open in the endzone for a TD. 14-0 Jags. wonderful start!

the joy is tempered early in the 2nd period when James has a huge run on 2nd and 10 at our 42 and then follows it up for a 10 yard TD on the next play. 14-7. the teams exchange punts, and then we turn the ball over at our own 37, Lofton intercepts and returns to our 14. a huge sack of Plummer on 2nd down by Brock, and a stuff by Boulware on James leaves them having to take a field goal. 14-10. looks scary on the kickoff when Martin fumbles, but WR Rose was on hand to get the ball back at our 29. we drive strongly all the way to the Jet 12, but Diaz can only get 1 of the required 3 yards on 3rd down, and we settle for a Mare field goal. looking good at 17-10, 37 seconds left in the quarter. first down for the Jets at their own 39, DiMaggio rushes through and tips a pass at the line, OH! ALMOST INTERCEPTED. that would have been crucial. 2nd down, Plummer is back, he's got time, he spots Wells, it's deep, Wells is way open, this is a touchdown, the Jets are even. oh my. what a heartbreaker, just before half time, and it's 17-17.

Jets come out passing in the 2nd half, but are forced to punt away at their own 48. we don't do much better and Hentrich booms a 58 yarder from our 25. then the Jets start putting a drive together. short passes and James rushes, Plummer hits a key pass to Wells for 24 yards down to our 24. 2nd and 3 now at our 17, Plummer is looking, looking, he's got Hastings... in the endzone. TOUCHDOWN JETS! the jets have the lead 24-17. and things are quickly unravelling. 5 minutes to go in the third. we go 3 and out and Hentrich is punting from our 13. decent snap, Hentrich gets the punt off, but OH! horrid punt! he's shanked it for 28 yards, Derrick has the ball and a quick return to our 34. that's a nightmare for Hentrich. Plummer needs no 2nd invitation at this range, he quickly finds Hastings for another touchdown and the Jets are beating us up now, 31-17.

we move to the 4th quarter, with a 1st and ten at our own 44. Culpepper looking downfield, he picks out Darnay Scott for a 14 yard reception. the Jags are desperate now. Culpepper drops back to pass again, he's got Scott, NO! OH NO! Hatton stepped in front of the pass and was off to the races! a 43 yard interception return before Nutten dragged him down at the Jaguars 24. oh my goodness. sickening. 2nd and 9, Jets looking to pass again, Plummer looks and throws, AND THE JAGS GET IT BACK! BROCK WITH THE PICK! THE ROOKIE! what a play! so we have the ball again at our 9, 13:25 to go in the period, 14 points behind. Culpepper looks to get us downfield with passes, but a drop by Dawson and consecutive underthrown balls let us down. punt. Plummer is still throwing against our D, and he brings the ball down to our 26 where they miss on 3 straight passes and Wilkins ends up convertin a 37 yard field goal to put the game on ice. 34-17 with 10 minutes to go. Jets kickoff for a touchback, leaving us mired at our 20. Culpepper is having none of it though and looks for Tucker for 49 yards. down to the Jets 31. two incomplete passes follow, before a shock play sees Diaz get the handoff and tear round left end, only to be stopped short of the first down by a yard. so close! Mare boots the 39 yarder to bring us back within 14.

9 minutes to go. Mare goes to kickoff, and he nudges one for an onsides kick! it's up to the 40, there is a huge pile up! the refs are picking the bodies off the ball. who's got it? it looks like a Jet. WAIT A SECOND! THE REFS ARE SAYING JAGS BALL! KARCZEWSKI RECOVERED! THEY ARE STILL IN THE BALLGAME! Culpepper gets his arm going and completes to Price for 8 yards, Dawson for 30, Gonzalez for 8, and then Dawson for 8 yards and a TD pass. surely not? 34-27 to the Jets now. 6 minutes to tick. Jets run 2 minutes off the clock and punt the ball down to our 20, but we get called for holding. back at our 10 with 4:18 to go. Culpepper is moving the ball. 4 spot on passes manoeuvre us down to their 46, 3 minutes to go now. Culpepper is passing again, it looks like Dawson may have it down at the 23, but in steps Hatton. OH NO! NOT AGAIN! HATTON PICKS IT OFF! HATTON IS GONE! HE IS AT THE FIFTY. TO THE 40. 30. 20. 10. TOUCHDOWN JETS. YOU MIGHT AS WELL STICK A FORK IN THE JAGS AS I BELIEVE THEY ARE ABOUT DONE. 41-27 New York.

but Culpepper refuses to give up. he still thinks the Jets can win. a great pass to Tucker for 43 yards sees the Jags down at the Jets 23 at the two minute warning. Culpepper comes out after the break and on first down, passing to Scott. OH! ALMOST INTERCEPTED. Lofton stepped in on the play and nearly ended the ballgame. 2nd down and 10, Culpepper sees Dawson streaking towards the endzone, Dawson is into the endzone, the pass is up, AND HE'S GOT IT! TOUCHDOWN JAGS! Mare converts and we're at 41-34.

the Jags have to set up for onsides again, and the Jets will know it's coming. Mare taps one, but it's badly judged. Lofton is there to recover for the Jets at the Jags 43. 1:38 to play. James takes the hand off and rushes for 15 yards on first down, they are rubbing it in now. 1st and 10 at the Jags 28. the handoff to James, James is stuffed at the line, Brock delivers a crushing hit. NO! WAIT! JAMES FUMBLES! THE BALL BOUNCES LOOSE! BROCK FALLS ON THE BALL! WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS! THE JAGS HAVE ONE MORE CHANCE!

starting at our own 28 with 1:21 to go, and 2 timeouts, the team are nervous. first play, the Jags are called for false start. 2nd, Culpepper fails to find Tucker. 2nd and 15, Culpepper looks for a good pass to Dawson and we get 33 yards to the Jets 44. 58 seconds remain. the snap again, Culpepper is running around behind the line of scrimmage, the Jets close in, Culpepper throws one deep, HE'S GOT DAWSON! DAWSON AT THE 10! THE 5! THE TOUCHDOWN! WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT THE JAGS ARE BACK WITHIN 1! Mare sets up for the crucial PAT, and he nails it. 41-41. it's a nailbiter. 2 plays later, we are headed for overtime.

Jets win the toss and they want to recieve. they get the ball at their own 36. first down, James dashes round right end for 6. Plummer then connects to Ricks for 8, and James breaks a big run to our 34 the very next play. we block them up there, and it's 3rd and 8. Plummer is passing, he finds Duran! disaster! Duran is inside the Jags 15 on that one. next play we are called for offsides. the heart is going out of the team. one last big play. now is the time. but it's not to be. Plummer hits James for a 9 yard touchdown and the game is over.

QB - Culpepper had his best year yet, 3346 yards, 22 TD's vs 12 Int's, for a 90.5 rating. he really settled into the offense this year. Uffins did great when he appeared in 3 games. 536 yards, and no interceptions. he is a free agent now. it's up to ShagVT - trade Culpepper and re-sign Uffins? or get Cubsfan to waive his rights on Uffins keeper status?

RB - did we have a rushing game this year? Conquergood had 544 yards and 6 TD's. Burress had 470 yardsa and a 4.7 ypc. Diaz had 322 yards and a 2.8 ypc but he also had 6 TD's.

WR - Tucker was the leader this year, 847 yards and 5 TD's, but the ball was spread round. Gonzalez had 635 yards, and Dawson 615. Scott had 475 and rookie Henson 473. rookie Rose had 371.

Returns - O'Neal was great again, when fit. and Tucker stepped up when called on to replace him.

K - Mare was 33 of 45 on FG but hit a bunch of clutch kicks, Hentrich was mediocre.

T - Ron Coleman had 103 tackles, Ted Johnson had 95.
