10 hours, 21 pages of papers to write
11 hours if you count the 1 hour I get between work and class.
I have to write 21 pages worth of papers in that time span. Anyone got some good ideas on Idealism, Aristotle/Plato, or Deep Ecology? |

The first two, I got nothing. The third looked promising until the Ecology thing came up.
Just use graphs and 150 size font. They will never know the difference. If you sense trouble, just wink at the teacher, that should smooth everything over.

I once wrote 18 pages in one night for a class. Due to a comedic series of events, I never found out what grade I got on the paper.

Why did you wait so long to start? It would have been best to do it bit by bit then in the end review it to make sure they all flow. Gosh I would hate to be you rigth now because I cant stand deadlines thats why I do everything ahead of time. Good luck man

Hmmm, dynasty report... tempting... I may just randomly update this thread like the roommate sex one.
I guess I did write a 15 page paper last year in a night... I got a B in th class, so hopefully these 3 papers should be ok. 1.25 in margins really make things shorter... and I love big block quotes, their my friends. And please don't change big block quotes to big black cocks or something. |

I tried to do it in advance, but I can't focus unless I am right against a deadline. Its the only way to motivate myself for schoolwork... shit, I've had all day to do it, and I've pretty much been playing FOF4 all day. I knew i should have taken an extension when my teacher offered me one for the 2nd paper. |

My best is a 25-page paper in one night while in graduate school. Few block quotes and 1" margins...cheater.

I did the works cited ahead of time, so I have to make sure to quote all 9 people at least once for one paper, and all 5 for the other.... THinking ahead.

12 hours to a calculus test... I guess I should look at the material...
At least I've been to all the classes but I don't know if that's enough to pass. Damn, maybe it's just about working hard? |

I happen to be writing a paper about "Mind and Machines" which has some relationship to idealism. It's only 5-6 pages, but since it's graduate level, I find it challenging. That, and I'm the world's biggest procrastinator! Anyway, I can probably help with idealism and plato/aristotle. As for ecology, you're on your own... |

eh, I'm actually having fun with the topics, its just a matter of actually writing the paper... I'm kindo fupset I'm the only person in the class who is arguing for idealism, instead of one of the pussy materialist thoughts... though AI and its relation to consciousness was choice #2.

While I don't think we can prove the existence of matter, it feels intuitive to me. Similarly, we cannot prove that our senses are accurate, but it wouldn't be practical to live a life constantly questioning them. That said, we can never *know* the noumenal world, where entities, if they exist at all, truly exist. We only *know* objects through the apprehension of them, but since our perceptors (senses) are extremely limited, we can never know more than sight, sound, touch, taste, and feel. If an entity has a "foo" quality, to man, it does not exist. Thus, I am a (qualified) materialist. Last edited by wbonnell : 11-20-2003 at 08:42 PM. |

I'm taking Philosophy of the Mind Historical Foundations of Philosophy Environmental Ethics and The American Judiciary. Thats an overload here (every class every day!), so I'm ready to kill myself. |

oh, no can do on the proof read, for some reason, thats against my schools policy to let others proofread your work unless they're a professor.

Impressive. And it's a good idea to balance the philosophy with something a bit more practical. Too bad you didn't couple it with engineering or science... Are you enjoying philosophy? What's your primary area of interest? Is the program analytical or continental or somewhere in between? |

I'm not a big fan of the sciences, and I always wanted to do the lawyer thing... but I should have studied so I could have had the grades to get in. I love Philosophy though, thats why I picked it up as a second major. I took a class, and it was by far the best I've had, so now I'm hooked. As to the program, its pretty much in between. Basically, they offer enough to satisfy most needs, though I think I picked it up in the wrong year, because I'll barely get enough classes to graduate with it. |

I enjoy doing it (I actually am fascinated by physics and statistics), but I just hate the organized structure that is provided in school, so its kind of turned me off. Its like that with computer programming. I loved when I could just randomly do it on my own, and I'm actually trying to teach myself how to do it (whenever I can find time), but when I took a class, I had to drop it. The teacher just didn't make it any fun at all, and made it as boring as it could be. The professor actually made it more confusing than it needed to be. |

Just had a test last week on DiffEQ's, and I had only been to like 3 of the 8 lectures before that. I figured I wouldn't have to study much since we did a lot of this in my AP calc class in high school. Luckily i was right and smoked it w/ 90...class average was a 45. |

Yeah...
Linear algebra was the same... Damn 8 a.m. classes were a bitch to get to. But i got an A in that class, too... AP Calc... best class i took in high school... went from straight low B's (just enough to stay in the AP(aka honors at the time) track) to straight A's.. Go figure. --tim

Just write something relevant down on the first and last pages and put excerpts from the Ken Starr Report in the middle .

Easy, if it makes you feel any better I have an 8-10 page rough draft due for Epistemology tomorrow at 11 and I'm only on page three now. I'll be up most of the night too.

Glengoyne: My personal low for class attendance was Sociology, sophomore year. Attended three classes: the first one, the midterm, and the final. Pulled a B. I assume the assignments and tests in-between are what dragged down my grade. Then again, if I cared about grades at all, I guess I'd be mildly unhappy or something. Thank god I don't remember anything other than the fact that it seemed simple and there were like 100 people around me that first day.
Kids, here's a tip: your college grades don't matter if you know what you're wanting to do with your life. Making money is not considered part of that equation. (All of that said: I pulled a 3.10 GPA undergrad, 3.89 or so graduate. So take it fwiw.) |

I remember doing something very like this in a class where I suspected the teacher was not likely to read the papers. First two pages and last written, something cut and pasted from a random web page in the middle. B+. Risky, but it proved my point. |

I had an econ professor that was absolutely worthless. We had three tests on three dates defined in the syllabus. His lecture consisted of him reading the text aloud, stopping to write "vocabulary words" on the board. No one attended his "lectures". The first test was 5 questions true false. I got 3 of them. The second test was 10 questions True false, I got 7 of those right. The final was the coup de gras. 50 questions true false, and if your grade on the final was higher than your average test grade it became your grade for the class. He also had a copy of the book in the reserved book room, that had all the vocabulary words outlined. I studied maybe 12 hours of Econ, reading included, and got an A on the final. It was so easy I reccomended the class to a friend, and that semester he pulled the book from the reserved book room. My friend cursed me all semester long, because he actually went to the lectures to learn the "vocabulary words". He said you had to be real careful, or all of the sudden you would be all alone in the room with him reading out loud. He said that four students became his cut off point, he was the last person one time, and just didn't have the heart to just walk out on the guy. |
