"Now Fox has a new rule that we can't do those little fake news crawls on the bottom of the screen in a cartoon because it might confuse the viewers into thinking it's real news," he said.
That's quite scary. |

Meh, it's bullshit. It's obviously just an excuse.

Nope...that's just sad. But, I would have loved to see Fox sue itself. That would have been very funny. What would have been more funny would to see people like O'Reilly and Hannity trying to actually rationalize the lawsuit and the new "cartoon ticker" rule. |

I'm a Republican by voting role...and that's friggin' hilarious.
This was in an actual episode that has aired or is it yet to air (or will it never air because of this fake news crawl thing)? Anyway, that's pretty funny. What I like about this is that this is more topical and recent commentary--the kinda stuff South Park has been doing with regularity, often leaving the Simpsons a bit behind. I think because of the relatively cheap presentation and short production times of South Park, it will always be more "timely" in its commentary than the more fleshed-out Simpsons, but it's still nice to see the Simpsons come up with that kind of humor (which has been lacking in recent years). I like both shows but I prefer the Simpsons not try to shoehorn topical stuff in there. With South Park, that's ok- it's kindof more crass and for shock value. But with the Simpsons, I want something that I can watch in 10 years (ie like watching season 3 episodes now) that isn't topical but universal humor. This is what makes the Simpsons so good and sophisticated- the humor is timeless and writing timeless jokes on current events takes great skill. Unfortunately, most of the Simpsons writing staff no longer possesses that skill- they rely on cheap laughs and cheesy guest appearances with stars "as themself" instead of universal humor and actors being allowed to act (Kelsey Grammer, Phil Hartman, etc). Simpsons has always taken shots at their parent corporation, and this was just another in that long line. Why FoxNews went apeshiat is beyond me. Its not like there was going to be a fake news crawl at the bottom of every episode.
Between this and the Franken suit it makes me wonder if FoxNews lawyers feel short of billable hours.
