Scariest Movie Scenes?

Link

Lists are great. Found this link on FARK and I thought I would see what the FOFC crowd thought was the scariest movie moment.

I didn't expect Blue to die in "Old School". Does that count?

I don't want to look at that list because I'm afraid that they might show the dead girl in the closet from "The Ring".

It's been about a year since I've seen that movie and it still freaks the shit out of me...

The opening part of Saving Private Ryan is by far the scariest thing I have ever seen on the big screen. All of my vital functions just stopped until it was over.

I'd like to participate in this thread, but can't because I always close my eyes during the scary parts.

I don't get scared during movies. I get shocked or surprised and sometimes a chill down my spine, but not scared. But I can't think of the best shock, surprise or chill during a horror movie...I guess I'd say The Shining (the spooky looking twins) for now.

She ranks #52, but the picture is linked, so you can easily avoid it by not clicking on the link in the ranking screen.

That said, the layout is kind of a nightmare, but it was interesting reading. The editor mentions that he didn't really think either "The Ring" or "Halloween" were all that scary, 2 movies that are very high on my list.

For you gross out types, visit #6 (?), the eyeball being sliced with a razor scene from "Un Chien Andalou". There is a link to an animated .gif (or is that .jpg?) with the scene in question.

I hate scary movies. Can't stand them. Just don't see the appeal at all.

I have had to watch a few in my time, though. One of my favorite scenes is the very end of the original Friday the 13th. It works because they suecker you into thinking the movie is over, then hit you one last time.

It can be fun having the shit scared out of you in what is really a non-threatening environment (a movie theatre).

I love horror movies.

I guess. I don't begrudge other people enjoying it, I just don't like them myself.

By the way, the all-time scariest scene was not from a movie, but rather that god-damn "can you spot what's wrong with this room" puzzle that went around a few months ago. I'd like to find whoever came up with that one and run them over with my car.

The Ring did a very good job of instilling a sense of dread. Like in the opening scenes, when you know the girl is doomed, but you don't know how...

I think Alien must have a scene in there somewhere.

In the movie Carrie, when the friend goes to visit Carrie's grave...and once she places the flowers down, an arm shoots out from the ground and grabs the friend...

I peed my pants.

Decent list. Too many The Shining and Jaws, though.

One they missed, IMHO, would be the opening scene from Vertigo (where his partner falls from the building).

One of my scariest scenes ever is from Mulholland Drive (as the camera pans around the corner behind the restaurant). That scene totally freaked me out.

Maybe it is on the list, but I don't see it.

Not from a movie, but another David Lynch moment that totally spooked me was from Twin Peaks. When Bob is climbing over the couch into the living room in one of the mother's visions, I lost my shit. I still have nightmares about that scene.

Actually what I said was "I can't believe the scene from that Kathy Bates movie isn't in there. No, not Misery... the one where she gets all naked in the hottub."

Great minds think alike.

Good one. That one got me too, even though in hindsight there's nothing especially scary about it. Just a great job of creating the atmosphere. It sets you up to think nothing is back there, then... surprise.

That whole movie was creepy. After the restaurant scene, you don't trust the movie anymore and everything has a good sense of dread attached to it.

I'm not a big fan of scary movies either. I haven't seen most of the flix listed.

I do remember being pretty freaked out during parts of the Sixth Sense - especially the part where the kid was hiding in his tent in his room.

you know, I'm not sure that I have.

I've seen bits and pieces of several of them, but wasn't impressed by any of it. But, looking over the cast list of Alien, I don't remember seeing any of those people (besides Weaver) in a flick, so maybe I'll have to check it out.

Well, I don't get scared at movies anymore, dang it. But even now if I catch a movie I saw when I was very young, it still leaves me with a few goosebumps. Here are a few obscure ones I saw on TV when they repeated them. Our local KTVT Channel 11 used to put on a scary movie every Saturday at 2pm, and that is when I watched most of them.

BAD RONALD 1973
TRILOGY OF TERROR 1975
DUEL 1971
GARGOYLES 1972
DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK 1972
THE HELLSTROM CHRONICLE 1973
Phantasm
Horror Express

I still say the scariest scene in a movie is from The Changling.....When the red/blue ball bounces down the stairs.....

I always thought The Omen movies had their share of scary moments.

I love horror movies. Always have. The only one that ever gave me nightmares was this really stupid ass movie called The Hand. I was ten when I saw the thing. The plot, if you can't figure it out from the title, was about a hand that went around killing people.

The night after I saw it, I woke up at about three in the morning and saw a gigantic shadow of a hand on my bookcase. I screamed and woke everyone in the house up. It turned out that the streetlight outside my window was hitting a back scratcher my grandmother had given me.

Dad wouldn't let me watch horror movies for a couple of years after that one.
