MNF Moved To Tempe due to Fires

Apparently tommorow nights Chargers/Dolphins game is being moved from SD to Tempe Arizona due to the fires.

I admit I havn't paying close attention to this story but I imagine these fires are pretty damn bad for a move like this to be made. I feel for anyone in that area.

Also - the reason for the move is that they are having to put residents and victims of the fires into Qualcomm.

Sad situation.

As for the game, as I said in another thread, it should be a strange game. I really don't see anyone really going to it. Maybe 10k max.

.. and at a 5+ hour drive from San Diego, I really don't see that many people making the treck for the game, especially on short notice. Should be an erie game.

I guess that will limit San Diego's home field advantage against the Dolphins. Of course, it's not like they will have many fans anyway with their record. Good for the Dolphins.

They ought to just open up the gates and let people in for free. Maybe collect donations of food or money for the fire victims. The teams are going to lose money anyway, so they might as well play the game in front of a decent crowd.

Actually, since the Cardinals aren't playing, it should be the highest attendance for a pro football game in many years.

I've actually been wanting to know what SD residents think of this.

Seemed to my wife and me that there were two things we would see each night on the news: a little blurb about an earthquake somewhere in CA, and a little blurb about a wildfire somewhere in CA.

Honestly, my wife and I started worrying a bit about it until it became almost common for us to hear such news. I imagine since it's national headlines now that this fire is much bigger than the "usual" fires. I just wonder what people back in my old town thought of it.

They could've moved to Hawaii, but then Madden would have to travel by boat I guess I'm sure the Hawaiians would come out for the game. MNF live from Hawaii

The fires are running up and down the coast...I hear they are approaching LA as well. Some friends of mine are stuck in New York, as planes won't fly into the Southern California area.

They are giving away all the "tickets" on a first come first serve basis starting at 4:30pm. They will be asking for a donation to help the disaster victims.

Let me tell you it is going the be chaos, I may not even go to my 5pm class tomorrow at ASU.

This is a great move by the NFL and ABC. While i'm sure its not entirely altruistic (they probably don't want to show an empty stadium on national TV), it's still a good thing to do.

And it's the only way Arizona's going to get a Monday night game.

I had actually wondered this morning if the culprit was to be caught if they would face terrorism charges. I'd say the results would fit the bill.

I think the same problem exists in LA. On the news last night, I saw that most flights from Sacramento to Southern California were either being delayed or cancelled. San Francisco or Oakland might have been an option, but I think Tempe is just about as close to San Diego.

C,mon, give the good people of Arizona some credit. They might actually pay to see NFL football.
