Let me get this straight...
Not to cause trouble or anything, but just because this first league to form, "the Legends", has all these bigwig FOFCers in it, they get their OWN forum on the board for it? I was hoping that forum would become a place for ALL FOF leagues to post info. Seems kind of outside the realms of a community board to have such a limited use forum on it.

SkyDog has said he'd set up a forum (or let them use that one) for any leagues that wanted one...

Then make a new category, don't sit it in with the rest of FOFC if you are going to make more than one forum for it.

Yeah, but the name right now is "Legends of FOFC" Multiplayer League. It was something more generic earlier. I'd really like to see it back to the generic. I know its not my board, and I don't necessarily speak for the majority maybe, but it seems real limiting right now.

If they feel they need to title it that, let them. They get to call themselves legends, and we can laugh at them for calling themselves legends, at the same time. Everybody wins.

Want some cheese with that whine?
I'm not in it, and I don't give a rat's ass. I'm not joining a league for a game that's not even out yet. For all I know, FOF4 Multiplayer could suck donkey balls. Anyhow, it's no big deal. There will be lots of leagues. Chances are, I'll end up in one with a bunch of fellow wiseasses, and end up competing to draft players with the most lewd nicknames. |

I think they are going to find out you need a number of forums to run a league and keep everything properly organized.
I think the forum should be used as a place to discuss online leagues, offer openings and for people looking for a league. Again, it is not my forum, and not my decision, but a league will not survive with one tiny forum on a public board. You really need your own webspace, a front page, and serpeate forums for transactions, discussion, etc....

Hehhehheh...I have no problem with the name "Legends", its just that the forum got renamed to that. They can call themselves whatever they want. And heck, if Skydog wants to put up forums to everyone else, then this is a non-issue. I think its an issue if they just have that one, limit it to their use only, and keep it named that if it IS open to everyone.

Why is this such a big issue? Start a league and call yourselves "The True Legends of FOFC"

ARGH. I have no problem with them being called Legends!!! I do have a problem if there is a private league forum on this public board, and provisions aren't made for others. However, Skydog has said that isn't the case.

I'd say we should just make it hidden, but I imagine there is value to the community in having it open to everyone. Might end up being like one big collective dynasty... maybe even convince a couple extra newbies to purchase the game or a regular or two to try out multiplayer. *shurg*

Point taken. I didn't want to use public/private, because thats not really what I'm trying to say, but words are failing me right now. Trust me, I do not want to get into a stupid argument over this, especially with you SD What I'm trying to say I guess is, that if there is a forum dedicated to just one league, it tends to show some people, I'd think newbies here, that there is a select crowd that runs things and if you're not in it, then bah to you. Thats not what I think about the guys in the league, as I've been reading this board since its inception and posting for several years, but with a more general "FOF Mutliplay Leagues" forum, you might inspire more participation over a broader audience. Edited for the following idea: In the dynasty forum, we have a sub forum for the dynasty posts. Why can't we have a Multiplay league forum, then a sub forum for each league, and a set way to get Skydog or another mod to add the sub forums? Last edited by Tasan : 10-22-2003 at 04:59 PM. |

From a quick look at the new forum, my guess is that the "legends" title was meant to be playfully ironic, and some of the league memebers have badly missed the joke.

I've seen the people post their complaints about the legends league, and I think it is because they are disappointed that they aren't in it; plain and simple. I'm disappointed as well, because there are a lot of people in the league whom I've come to like from this board, and I'm pretty sure I would enjoy being in a league with them. However, I realize we can't all be in it and I see no reason for the complaining about this fact. Everyone just needs to do their best to find a league to join that they will enjoy. Just my 2 cents.

This is just another case of elite power structure at FOFC deploying their dominant, racist, heterosexist ideology in the form of exclusive hierarchal forum creation. It is a paradigmatic struggle between the voiceless and FOFC ruling class arising from systemic imbalances under the tyrannical reign of the Skydog. Until the underlying conditions and premises of "legend" creation are critiqued and reconceptualized through a post-structuralist lens, the oppressed will not have access to the essential elements of FOF2K4 enjoyment. Down with the "Legends!"

Well, the only reason I would have a problem with it is if the moderators turn down ANYONE who wants a forum for their league, since that has been established as the rule. I think it's a poor decision because we could easily have 400 forums or you could have someone ask for a forum that you don't want have one -- Bragadociossssss could ask for a Knights of KKK League Forum and you wouldn't really have any reason to turn them down.
What I find fascinating about the whole public/private forum debate is that no one has every really seemed to realize that while this is a private forum owned by GameSpy. If anybody has any beefs with this anything that happens here, they should take it up with GameSpy. The moderators serve at the pleasure of GameSpy. It's their forum -- not yours, not mine, not Ben's, not Ryan's. Personally, if I were forming a league I would pop for a couple of bucks to setup a site at any number of cheap places. Of course, in the MP world, chances are that at least 1 of 32 guys have access to server space. There's not really any reason to be a beggar. I also wouldn't join a league called "The Legends" of anything, if for no other reason than, to borrow a phrase that seems popular here, it sounds "faggoty." But that's just me. |

That bull. "Anyone" could not because it is still at the discretion of the mods. They are allowing other leagues, but they would still be under the mods and the rules of the board. And by the way, Gamespy does not own this forum, it owns the server this forum is on. If the mods want to change servers tomorrow, they can. Last edited by GrantDawg : 10-22-2003 at 11:22 PM. |

I wouldn't have noticed the forum had it not been for this thread. If people want to create a league and call themselves legends, fine, if that's what makes them feel good and important, why burst anyones bubble?
However I think any other leagues should get equal consideration. Really the mods can do whatever they want, but that seems like a fair solution. I'm speaking from an objective standpoint because I have absolutly no interest in multiplayer, and I'm an unknown. |
