Anyone tried Itunes yet?

I was thinking about following the law for once, and I was wondering what people thought?

Is it good, bad, how's the selection?

Downloading it now.

I love it so far. I like the idea of being able to pay for individual songs.

It is still not clear to me if you can burn the stuff you buy to a cd or if you have to listen to it with iTunes or iPod. If that is the case, then probably won't use it extensively...

You can burn it to a CD, but I think the same playlist can only be burned 10 times.

They have a windows client yet?

Buymusic.com is another alternative, but I'm afraid to commit to either one... basically because I can't really afford it, and a service like that would nickel-and-dime me to death.

Napster is coming back with it's legal version this month on the 29th. Pricing is $.99 per track, $9.95 per album. I'm not sure, but I think they may have .wma files instead of .MP3, but if this is the case I plan on burning and then ripping to .MP3. If you pre-register at their website though you can get 5 free tracks to try it out.

I don't think that's iTunes, though. The sense I got from that is that you paid your 99 cents/track, and at that point you could burn it as frequently as you wanted to.

http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/

There's the link in question where I found that information. They mention that you can burn to an unlimited number of CDs, store your songs on an unlimited number of iPods, and so forth.

I know there IS a music service that has the limits you mention. I just don't think that service is iTunes.

How about the actual iPod? Are you guys that have them happy with them? $300 is a lot of money (at least for a college student) so I want to do as much research as possible beforehand.

If I can buy MP3's for $.99, I too will join the good side. But I want the same choices as before, when I was on the dark side.

Why isn't there a cent sign on an American keyboard....

I use my iPod 8 hours a day 5 days a week at work and I absolutely love it.

I didn't do much research when I bought mine so i cannot say whether it is definitely worth the extra money you spend over some other mp3 players, but I do not regret buying mine for a second.

I'm pretty happy with mine.
Realistically, it's more than I need, since I leave it at worked plugged into speakers and don't carry it around at all. So, the portability doesn't mean too much to me. For you, as a student, it probably makes even more sense than it does for me - even more so if you have a PC with a firewire port.

I haven't tried using it in conjunction with iTunes yet, but I'm hoping that works ok, because I really don't like the MusicMatch software that the PC's had to use.

I use musicmatch for ripping my CDs, but I use EphPod to actually copy all my music to my iPod. http://www.ephpod.com

I looked at ephpod, and may give that a try if iTunes doesn't work out for me.

I really enjoy mine. I have it plus the I Trip radio adapter and I use it while I deliver Pizza's.

Saves me a lot of problems by not needing to change CD's. And the I Trip works well since there is a clear station in Cincinnati.
