FBCB: Rey Cravens - Coaching Career
UC-Riverside Announces New Head Coach
Riverside, CA - The UC-Riverside Athletic Director has announced that former California Bears and Los Angeles Lakers star Rey Cravens has accepted the head coaching position at UC-Riverside. UC-Riverside has failed to make the NCAA Tournament for 55 years, last time was 1947. Riverside is 13-43 over the last two years. UC-Riverside last won the Big West Championship in 1947, before that it was 1936. Cravens is the NCAA's 10th best all-time leading scorer with 3,096 career points. Cravens played for the Cal Bears from 1984-1988. Riverside has a prestige of 17 and the Athletic Director expects a .500 conference record. The training facilities at Riverside are the 8th in the Big West. Good luck Rey. Last edited by Balldog : 10-02-2003 at 06:30 PM. |

Game 1
November 18, 2003 UC-Riverside (0-0) at Montana (0-0) Our schedule this year is by no means tough but we do have a lot of road games. Montana has a guy by the name of Matt Anderson and he is tough, see box score. After the first game the coaches decide to scrap the run-n-gun philosophy. We get drilled 82-63. Code:

Game 2
November 22, 2003 Mount St. Mary's (1-0) at UC-Riverside (0-1) Our new gameplan proved effective as we wanted to play better defense, we let up just 20 points in the second half after a rough first half. Junior Darius Trost has a nice game with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Code:

Game 3
November 26, 2003 UC-Riverside (1-1) at San Diego State (0-1) It sure would be nice to guy to an in-state school and beat them good. What a tough loss, we started off not scoring for the first six minutes and trailing 16 to 0 but fought back to make it 62-61 with 20 seconds to play. SDSU missed the second free throw but forced a jump ball and took the air right out of us. We lost 65-61. Trost scores 30. Code:

Game 4
November 30, 2003 Liberty (1-3) at UC-Riverside (1-2) Sandy McElrath was forced to leave last weeks game with a bruised hip, he will play tonight though. We have to win games like this, Liberty was one of the worst teams in the country last year. We couldn't put these guys away and let them hang around all game but we pull away in the final minute to win 68-62. Santos scores 19 off the bench, he will be the new starting center. Code:

Game 5
December 7, 2003 Lehigh (2-4) at UC-Riverside (2-2) Lehigh is another one of the worst teams in the country, we should win but you never know. This was truley a team effort, everyone chipped in tonight. I'm still disappointed that we could not bury them we kept them around enough to make it close but we win 83-74. Five players score in double figures. Code:

Game 6
December 14, 2003 Denver (2-3) at UC-Riverside (3-2) This should be a good game, Denver has four players averaging in double figures in points. What a classic game, neither team lead by more than 5 all game long with close to 20 lead changes throughout. We get a few key late buckets and come away with the win 84-81. David Jones was our player of the game with 15 points and 7 assists. Code:

Game 7
December 18, 2003 UC-Riverside (4-2) at Weber State (1-4) I don't know how Weber State is 1-4 they have got a great point guard and a power forward who just crashes the boards. One word describes this game, UGLY! We score 48 points and two players scored 40 of them. Would anyone else mind showing up? Needless to say we got beat 63-48. Code:

Game 8
December 25, 2003 UC-Riverside (4-3) at Cal State Fullerton (5-2) CSF has a talented backcourt, hopefully we can contain them. If we do we can win this game. This was a battle, two good backcourts against each other. We Trost stepped it up big time tonight with 27 points, outscoring their backcourt by 3 points himself. We win 70-63, Merry Christmas! Code:

December 27, 2003 UC-Riverside (5-3) at UC-Santa Barbara (5-3) Another in-state game, this time with rival Santa Barbara. They have a good shooting guard and small forward. Usually we do a pretty good job of shutting down the other teams key players, but tonight we couldn't they both score 16 on us and we continue to get poor bench play. We get beat 74-61. Tobey scores 19 in the loss. Code:

Game 10
January 1, 2004 UC-Riverside (5-4) at UNLV (7-3) This is probably the best team we have played so far, they have a great player in Maurice Campo (C) he is averaging 18 points a game. We held Campo in check by doubling down on him but he did a good job of recognizing the double team, his teammates helped him out alot. Trost has another good game with 20 points in the loss. Code:

January 3, 2004 UC-Riverside (5-5) at Portland (4-4) Portland has an outstanding backcourt and a good center, we may have trouble in this one. We pissed down our leg and blew the lead we had all game with about 10 minutes to play as they figured out our defense. Their big 3 kicked our butts in the second half. We lose 80-72. Code:

January 12, 2004 Morehead State (2-11) at UC-Riverside (6-7) Another game we should win. I've come to the conclusion that we suck, we scored 2 points in the final 5 minutes of this game to lose 62-48. Trost has a horrible game shooting 2 for 14 from the field. Code:

January 22, 2004 UC-Riverside (6-9) at Idaho (4-11) We can get right back into the thick of things with a strong finish to this month. McElrath has replaced Crawford in the starting lineup.
