Jax Signs Troy Edwards

You gotta love that Jax signs these players who may still have tremendous potential to the team. Chris Fu, Troy Edwards, etc.

Anyways, the Jimmy Smith Returns clock is almot down to zero but this is probably a move made to replace Jermaine Lewis who was put on IR.

If Troy Edwards has rid himself of his massive ego, I believe he could be a very good 3rd receiver.

Troy Edwards has always had the speed and talent to be a good WR in the NFL.

That "P" word (Potential) is still hanging around his neck.

He just has to put it together somehow, someway....maybe it will be the Jags who get lucky with him.

....or another bust...which would be ashame.

Is receiever the position where you are least likely to see a player rise to prominence after a terrible start? I can't think of any marquee receivers who weren't impact players in their 2nd or 3rd season.

Ed McCaffrey never caught more than 49 passes for 610 yards his first 8 years in the league. He followed that up with 3 consecutive 1000 yard seasons before getting hurt in 2001. Came back with another 900+ yards last year.

Troy Brown had 137 catches for 1827 yards his first seven years in the league. That's an average of about 20 catches for 261 yards per season. In the past three seasons, he's averaged over 93 catches for 1011 yards.

These guys are clearly the exception to the rule. I think you're analysis is dead on.

Jimmy Smith's first year in the league was 1992. He didn't actually catch a pass until 1995, and then he didn't break out until 1996...

Keenan McCardell didn't do much over with Cleveland until the Jags picked him up either.

Not so fast...Fu is a good player, when healthy. He is as injury prone as Fragile Fred. That is why he is no longer in a Steeler uniform.

Edwards is just a joke. He thinks he is the sh*t. He is short, he doesn't have good speed and couldn't make it as a #5 receiver on two teams now. His ego got in his way and until he is brought back down to Earth, Edwards will amount to nothing.

+ Troy Edwards, 84 Yd pass from Byron Leftwich (Seth Marler kick is good), 10:50. Drive: 2 plays, 84 yards in 0:17.

Edwards so far is helping Leftwich lead the Jags 20-17 over the Texans, he has 2 catches for 100 yards. Not bad.

TD #2 this week. Game 2, TD 2. 150 yards in 2 games and he doesn't even start.

JJ Stokes has been the starter for four weeks, was playing in Smith's Absence, and only had 96 yards without any TDs.

Matt Hatchette had 142 yards and 2 TDs starting in 5 weeks.

So, Troy has had an enormous impact already.

You have to remember you're comparing him to JJ Stokes. Even though we're both SF fans, this is one thing Sharpieman and I agree upon...JJ Stokes sucks.

Coach Del Rio announced today that Troy Edwards has been elevated to the number 2 spot. Starting to seem like a good pickup.

He played well in the Miami game. Leftwich seems to have something working with him.

Maybe Troy finally breaks out.

Troy has started the poast few games, but I think that the Kevin Johnson pcikup will be good for him. Troy seems like more of a natural 3rd WR than a 2nd option. You have Jimmy, your number one man, start KJ as your possession guy, and Troy your homerun hitter in the 3 spot.
