Mexican Buffet
Has anyone ever seen a Mexican buffet? Why hasn't this been done yet. I think a well done one can be as big as Ryans. $4 gets you an all you can eat Taco/burrito/enchilada... I mean, there's like 5 main things in Mexican foods: Beans, rice, some form of meat, sauce, and tortillas. I'm telling you, a Mexican buffet is a sure thing. Why has no one created one before?
Just brainstorming for a post-college career. Anyone think I can get financial backing for this? A Mexican Ryan's. Anyone else feel this could be the most simplistic brilliant idea ever? Or am I intoxicated? |

Err it COULD work... but I don't think I'd like to just eat like tacos and stuff.. just something about it... I'd eat a couple for lunch or supper, but a buffet I'm not too sure about.. maybe it's just me. heh.
And everyone would be putting their fingers in the shredded salad and stuff... |

hmmm, gotta get a place like that in SC. The Mexican population is booming here, and even most white people I know eat crazy amounts of tacos and Mexican food in general... its the one career my girlfriend hasn't laughed at (she didn't like my PornBurgers or PornDonuts ideas).

They would need about 10 times the regular number of bathroom facilities.

I think the Mexican Buffett would work really really well to be honest.
You can get ground beef bulk for prob around 1.50 a pound. And at worst, whats the most ground beef someone can eat (especially with all the seasonings, shells, tortillas, etc) filling you up, I'd say you could eat 1 LB MAX. Commodies such as produce can really fluxuate (tomatos are expensive, as is cheese). The buffett idea is good. All you would need is a few workers to cook ground beef/chicken all day, and put it out onto steam tables for the customers. Not a bad plan. |

With all of the tortillas, chips, rice, and beans people would consume off of a buffet, I'd figure the average person would actually eat far less meat than you'd expect. It seems to me that you could make a killing with a Mexican buffet - until the Atkins contingent gets wind of it, then it's just meat, cheese, salsa, and sour cream for hours. When I go for all you can eat BBQ, and I tell them to hold the fries and bread and just bring the meat and coleslaw, they know they're losing money on me. Bring it on.

Like I said KSyrup, at $1.50 a pound, you gotta eat alot of ground beef to cut them out of a profit.

Philliesfan - cheese and dairy products are some of the most expensive food products, and Atkins crowd can eat all of it. The cheap stuff (tortillas, bread, etc) is the stuff that Atkins people can't eat.

Plus, it's not all ground beef. What about chicken and steak (fajitas)? A couple of years ago Applebee's had Thursday night all you can eat fajitas. I cleaned them out every Thursday night, and got to watch football while doing it. Too bad they don't do THAT anymore.

Vince - I know tell me about it. Every time I make Taco's/Fajita's and I look at the "bagged cheese" isle, I cringe at how it costs $3.00 for a very small bag of shredded cheddar.

Don't you wish you were still young enough to eat like that, be fat, and not give a damn? I miss those days.

Its all about choices. I've stayed slim by just kicking one thing out of my food choices all together. I haven't had a sweet (candy, etc, things with alot of sugar) in a long long time. Then I don't feel as bad when I gorge on some wings on sunday or something like that. Still eat carbs and all that stuff, just super sweet items. And NO soda, thats a major no no. Juice/Water ONLY

Are you kidding? On Atkins, I regularly hit buffets, stay away from the carbs, and lose weight in the process. It's a beautiful thing!

shit, I wish I was young enough to eat like that... I'm 21 and I've practically abandoned 2nd helpings because I feel so fat. Of course, I was so damn skinny for so long, its hard to tell if I'm normal or overweight.
Oh, and for the record, I'm half-Mexican, and I hate Mexican food (except chips and salsa). I got this idea by eating at a pizza hut/kfc express buffet. |

Ugh, Poncho's = Instant Shits There's one here in Denton but I haven't gone to it yet. I figure it can't be better than the one I went to in Abilene a couple of times. Man, I spent the rest of the day in the bathroom both times... Quote:
I don't know why anyone would go to a Mexican buffet in El Paso when there's Avila's, Leo's, and Grigg's there. My god, I miss REAL Mexican food...

There was an all you could eat taco contest at JHU while I was there. Taco Bell tacos were used, but I don't know if they were a sponsor. Unfortunately, I missed it! I think I could have downed a lot of tacos then. They have a buffet night at a local place here, Casa Ricos. Not bad, but not spectacular.
