For the Drinkers (part 2)

I came across the following link when loooking at Jell-O on google.

It has some nice drink recipies.

The site does something that I have been wondering about for a while. It calls its drinks Martinis, but it seems like the only thing Martini about them is the glass.

When did martini become a generic term for a mixed drink? What ever happened to gin and dry vermouth?

I'm sure what you said before was true. They've bastardized the martini for those who want to be stylish but can't hack drinking a real one.

also, i've always wondered about the martini as well. a "martini" bar in indy advertises their special "martinis", but no one in the joint is drinking a real martini. i think they just overcharge for a lemon drop and call it a martini to target the yuppies who can't handle real alcohol.
