Problems installing FOF and other games with XP

I just got my new computer last Thursday. I had Windows 98SE before. Here are my new specs:

AMD Athlon 2600 with 512 MB of RAM. Windows XP with 120 GB HD and a 16X DVD- ROM and 48X CD-RW.

Now here's my problem. I can install some of my games old and newer ones. But some won't install.

FOF is one of them. Is it because I'm missing an update or something? Also some of my Casino games: Holye etc. How do you make these compatable with Windows XP. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Dolphin....

Which version of FOF? I have both 2K1 and FOF4 running on my XP systems, and they work fine.

FOF4. It worked fine on Windows 98SE. So did all my other games. So far I have found at least 3 games that won't even install. But they will on my other computer.

no problems with FOF4.

installed fine - with hard drive reformats, I've probably installed it 3 different times on XP. not a single glitch.

Am I missing a patch or something? It's not my drive because I can install other games. And the disk works in my other computer.

Patch shouldn't be the problem. I was in the first batch shipped, so definitely have the oldest version, and that installs and runs fine...

No, I'm wondering if I have a patch missing for Windows XP. I haven't downloaded any updates yet. Just got the computer Thursday and I am new to XP.

It won't even get that far. I have to go into explore of the CD drive and click on the install icon. Nothing happens. On another game the install button comes up. When I click on it nothing happens. Then on some games everything installs fine. I'm baffled.

Did you install XP "over" another OS? At times doing this will cause the OS to not recognize a previously installed program.

Weird, seems like your drive doesn't pick up the autorun function on the CD... Can't help you much more though. Sorry, maybe somebody else will have lived through the same ordeal. good luck!

The system came with preinstalled software, windows XP. I am downloading XP SP1 right now. Could that be it?

Sorry, can't spell when I'm tired.

Maybe, I know I have all the SP installed on mine and it works, so it could be the problem.

I don't think so, but it can't hurt.

Thanks for all the advice gentlemen. I'm going to try it again tomorrow with the update SP for XP. If that doesn't work I will send Jim an e-mail. Maybe he can help. Thanks again.

Try copy the installation files from the CD to the hard drive, see if that makes a difference running the setup from there.

I want to thank everyone for their advice last night. It was the SP for Windows XP. After I downloaded the update and installed it, all my games will install fine. That's a relief. Thanks again.
