Baseball (1901 - ): alternate reality
Starting with 16 teams in 1901, the Baseball Alternate Reality universe will begin. There will be 8 teams in each league with some of the original teams being moved to better represent the curretn teams. The teams will have the original rosters from 1901 and the new rookies will be dumped into the amateru draft pool each season.
No expansion will occur. The league will remain at 16 teams, which should create many very good matchups as the talent pool increases. All seasons will be a full 162 games long. The teams are: American League Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox Chicago White Sox Cleveland Indians Detroit Tiger Milwaukee Brewers New York Yankees Oakland Athletics National League Atlanta Braves Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Los Angeles Dodgers Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates San Francisco Giants St. Louis Cardinals |

April, 1901
After a weird lockup I had to restart the PC to get OOTP working again. It locked up midway through simming April (the game that is).
After April the AL has been domintated by those Detroit Tigers, going 17-9. The Yankees are 2 games back at 15-11. Baltimre, Chicago and Oakland are 14-12. The current bottom feeder is Cleveland at 7-19. In the NL it has been the Pirates leading the way at 17-9. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are both a game back at 16-10. St. Louis is next at 15-11. Atlanta and Chicago are on the bottom at 8-18. Ed Siever leads the way in the AL with a 5-0 record for Detroit and an ERA of 1.08. He is well on his way to his real life win total for 1901 of 18. Nap Lajoie has been leading the way for the A's with a .440 average and is also tied for the lead with 2 homeruns. On the trade front: Cincinnati traded SS Tommy Corcoran to Oakland for CF Phil Greer. Baltimore traded 2B Joe Quinn to the White Sox for CF Cozy Dolan. Los Angeles traded RF Lefty Davis to Cleveland for P Jack Bracken. |

Still working onthe standings format. Nap Lajoie continues to lead the entire league with a .414 average and an incredible power display of 4 homeruns. Al Orth of Philadelphia has shined recently on the mound. He is 10-2 with an ERA of 2.10 for the Phillies. There were no trades made this past month. Cy Young of Boston will be out until mid July as he has been injured for the second time this season (getting injured in his first start after returning from the previous injury).

Cool dynasty....how long are you planning on taking with each season? It will be interesting to see the alternate history build up.

I'm planning on getting through the seasons relatively quickly, but I have no set plan (that way I can't fall behind schedule ). I'll be finishing out 1901 today and should be moving into 1902.

June, 1901
Some problems again with the game locking up a week and a half into the month. Again, had to restart the computer to get back into the game. The stats for that week and a half for the players were lost, though the team standings were not. My take is that it appears to be a problem when an injury causes a roster problem (with the low number of players that were on each team in 1901). I will change the way that I sim to weekly now so that I won't risk losing too much information on a lockup like this.
Code:
In the American League, New York and Oakland have taken their share of the lead with a strong month of June. Detroit is staying with them at 2 games back but then it drops off a bit to Boston and Baltimore at 8 and 9 games back. In the National League, St. Louis holds a 5 game lead over Los Angeles with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh being 6 back. The other 4 teams look to be out of the running already. The Cubs look like the whipping boys of the league at 26-53. Offensively Nap Lajoie of Oakland is setting the pace with a .414 average and 5 homeruns. Al Orth of Philadelphia looks like the current favorite for the Pitcher if the Year as he is 12-3 with a 1.96 ERA. No trades this month to report.

Nap Lajoie of Okaland looks like a solid MVP candidate with a .414 average (to lead the league), 7 homeruns (2nd in the AL), 75 RBI's (3rd in the AL) and 81 runs scored (2nd int he AL). Over in the National League the MVP race is wide open and could be any of several players. Al Orth continues to shine for Philadelphia with a 21-7 record and a 2.03 ERA. He is allowing less than one base runner per inning. The AL pennant race has come down to Oakland and New York. They still have 4 games remaining head to head. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are tied for the lead in the NL. They also have 4 games left head to head. The NL race looks to be a thriller. They have the top two pitching staffs in baseball, so it should be a great finish. |

Oakland won the American League pennant, anks somewhat to the Yankees going into the toilet for the first half of the month of September.
In the National League, the Phillies went on winning streaks of 8, 7 and then another 8 game streak to end the season to take the National League pennant. Code:

Early on the Oakland A's have not looked like the AL pennant winner of last season. One of their problems is missing all star right fielder Socks Seybold who will miss about 5 wqeeks with back spasms. In the National League, the Phillies have looked dominant early on. They have been winning with pitching, similar to last season with the returning pitcher of the year and rookie of the year in their starting rotation. Honus Wagner of Pittsburgh has been setting the offensive pace thus far with a .412 average. Buck Freeman of Boston has been making quite a stir with his .390 average, 4 homeruns, 20 runs scored and 23 RBI's. Al Orth or Philadelphia is 6-0 with a 1.95 ERA and Cy Young of Boston is 6-1 with a 2.14 ERA. They are the two standouts on the mound so far this season. There have been no moves made by the teams so far since the season has begun. |

Boston went through a rough month and now find themselves looking up at the White Sox in the American League standings. The NL race has tightened up as the Phillies managed only just above .500 for the month and the Pirates are now breathing down their necks. There are no current front runners for player of the year in the American League at this point. The National League has Jesse Burkett of St. Louis who leads the league with a .378 average, 1.020 OPS, 3 homeruns, 35 RBI's and is second with 38 runs scored. Joe Yeager of Detroit is now 11-2 with an ERA of 2.78 to be one of the early contenders for the title of AL pitcher of the year. Al Orth is 12-1 for Philadelphia in the National League with a 2.35 ERA. There were no trades this past month. |

The White Sox built up a large lead in the American League, thanks to a 12 game winning streak during June. Boston, New York, Milwauukee and Detroit all are in need of a very good July or for the White Sox to continue their current 4 game slide. Pittsburgh has taken the lead over the Phillies in teh National League. St. Louis looks to be the only other team that could seriously contend at this point. Nap Lajoie has stepped it up for Oakland as he is now hitting .369 to lead the AL along with 52 runs scored. Jesse Burkett is still dominating NL pitchers as he is hitting .367 with 5 homeruns, 56 runs scored and 47 RBI's. Joe Yeager of Detroit is the top starter in the AL with a 15-4 record and 2.66 ERA. In the NL Al Orth is 16-4 witha 2.27 ERA. He is followed closely by is one time teammate, now with San Francisco, Red Donahue. Donahue is 14-5 with an ERA of 2.00. Big trade between Philadelphia and San Francisco. Philly send P Red Donahue and his 14-5 record to San Francisco for 21 year old pitcher Christy Matthewson. The Chicago Cubs trade pitcher Jack Taylor to St. Louis for pitchers Ed Murphy and Buck Hooker. |

I love to see stuff like this. I am wondering, however, why you did not go with the traditional 16 teams that was set from the 1920s through the 1950s? Was it because of the multiple teams in half of the cities?

Since I decided not to do expansion I figured it would be best to move the teams to their more familiar cities. That's also if any of the west coast crowd reads the dynasty, so they don't feel slighted.
Edit: 1902 should be completed later tonight. I'll try to get into 1903 as far as possible too (anniversary is tommorrow so the wife might not want me playing OOTP to celebrate it ).

In the American League, Chicago played decent ball for the first part of the month but struggled near the end, including losing their last 5. This has allowed Milwaukee, New York, Boston, Detroit and Oakland to start to make a move. Oakland has begun to turn their season around after a poor start and have been playing some of the best ball in the league. Philadelphia has won 15 of their last 17 in the National League to take the lead over Pittsburgh by 1 game. In the American League, Boston has found their second win and have narrowed the gap to just 1 game behind Chicago. Milwaukee and New York are both 4 back and hovering. The defending AL champions, Oakland, find themselves 7 back and in need of a big winning streak to find themselves in the hunt. Pittsburgh has continued their strong play and have built a 7 game lead over both S. Louis and Philadelphia. Their magic number is 25. Nap Lajoie of Oakland is once again making a stir with his opffensive production. He leads the AL with a .379 average and .952 OPS and 93 runs scored and is second with 77 RBI's. Jesse Burkett of St. Louis is second in the NL with a .354 average, leads with a .917 OPS, 2nd with 5 homeruns and leads with 84 runs scored. Cy Young, of Boston, is 21-11 with an ERA of 2.20. He is giving Joe Yeager (22-9, 3.25), of Detroit, a run for the top pitcher honors in the AL. Al Orth is 26-7 with a 2.40 ERA, looking to surpass his 28 wins of last season. He looks like the claer favorite in the NL for top pitcher honors. |

Chicago White Sox off-season free agent pick up of John Anderson is paying off for them as he is tied for the lead with 4 homeruns, leads the league with 20 RBI's and 18 runs scored. Ed Delahanty of Philadelphia leads the NL with a .452 average and has scored 23 runs. The new member of the cardinals, John McGraw, is doing well with a .396 average, 21 runs scored and 4 RBI's. Cy Young is looking dominating for Boston at 6-1 with a 2.81 ERA. New York's newest member, Nixie Callahan has helped them take the early lead in the AL as he is 4-2 with a 2.24 ERA (he also has a 12 game hitting streak that stretches back to last season). Jesse Tannehill of Pittsburgh is looking to dethrown Al Orth as the top pitcher in the National League. He is currently 6-0 with an ERA of 1.50. No trades this month. |

The Yankees have dropped off a bit in the American League while Detroit had a fine month to take the lead. Over in the National League it's is looking like it might be Pittsburgh and St. Louis taking this race into the latter parts of the season. Offensively there isn't one player that is standing head and shoulders above the others in either league. Ed Dellahanty (PHI), John Anderson (BALT), Emmet Heidrick (STL) and John McGraw (STL) are all having solid seasons, as well as others. Roscoe Miller has led the charge for Detroit as he is 10-3 with a 3.20 ERA. Jesse Tannehill of St. Louis continues his attempt to dethrone Al Orth as he is 11-2 with a 1.94 ERA. Boston traded P Bill Wolfe (AAA) to Los Angeles for C Tom McCreery (.360, 2 HR, 14 RBI). |

Baltimore has stepped up and thrown their hat into the ring in the American League. Over in the National League, Pittsburgh put together a 13 game winning streak during the month but St. Louis is still hanging within reach. It looks like a 2 horse race from here out though. Cy Young is taking his place as the top pitcher in the AL this season. He has staken a step past the other top hurlers in the AL with a 14-3 record and a 2.36 ERA. Jack Chesbro of Pittsburgh has challenged Tannehill now as he is 17-3 with a 2.29 ERA. Tannehill is 16-3 with a 1.64 ERA. St. Louis traded 20 year old LF Gene Curtis (.286) to Los Angeles for 27 year old RF John Titus (.357, 17 RBI). |

In the American League, Detroit, Baltimore and New York appear to be sharing time at the top. This race may go down to the final day of the season. Sorry about the delay. I didn't want to post during the time of the database erros out of fear of losing bunch of stuff. Time was not a luxury for a while after that. There was another lockup during the sims. This has now somehow caused 2 teams to have an extra game in their record.
Code:
The American League has now become almost anyone's to take. All 8 teams are within 9 games of each other and no team is playing great baseball right now. The National League has seen Pittsburgh stumble a bit (12-16 in August) and St. Louis has been playing inspired ball (19-9 in August) as of late and now find themselves just 2 games out. Jesse Tannehill of Pittsburgh should be looking for a place to put his NL Pitcher of the Year award as he is 26-5 with an ERA of 1.68 to be easily the best pitcher in baseball right now. |

New York surged ahead on the AL to win their first ever American League pennant. In the National League, it went to a one game playoff which Pittsburgh won 8-3 over St. Louis to win the National League pennant. John Anderson of Chicago had a fine season. The Norwegian led the American League in hitting with a .319 average, was tied for 2nd with 14 homeruns, 3rd with 93 runs scored and led the league easily with 126 RBI's. Rookie Barnie Wolfe of New York led the American League with a 26-13 record and had a 2.85 ERA. He should easily be the Rookie of the Year in the AL and should get a lot of consideration for Pitcher of the Year. Jesse Tannehill of Pittsburgh finished his outstanding season with a record of 32-7 with an ERA of 1.54. He is easily the Pitcher of the Year in the NL. The World Series will see Tannehill's Pirates face off against Wolfe's Yankees. The Wankees reach the World Series for the first time and are hoping to be the first AL team to win it as Pittsburgh is trying to be the first team to repeat as champion. |

I've changed the style of the dynasty a bit. The league will now be posted at MLB - Aternate Reality so everything can be viewable.
In the American League through June, the Yankees have now dropped a game behind the Tigers. The Yankees have not been getting it done in close games, 10-17 in 1 run games and 1-9 in extra innings. In the National League, St. Louis has taken the lead with a surging Chicago 3 games back. Pittsburgh has seen it's share of trouble the past month and are now in 3rd in the division. There was another weird game freeze and it has caused Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to be given one more game int he standings.

I finished the 1904 season and will be posting it a little later, will post here when it's online. Before I get too far with doing it this way I was curious what is preferred.
Doing the monthly write-ups or simming a season and doing a summary write up here with the link to the HTML site for it. Thanks, any input is appreciated. |
