OT: PureSim Baseball New Trial Version Now Available

Hi folks,

Thought I'd pass along that a new trial version of PureSim Baseball 2003 (v1.52) is now available. Tons of new features have been added in free updates and this release includes all the new additions. Lots of cool new stuff for playing with fantasy leagues, player photos, ball park photos, almanac enhancements, injury model tweak, all star selections and tons of other stuff.

If you haven't tried PureSim 2003 in the last few months it might be worth a look-see

I also lowered the price to $19.99

http://www.puresim.com

Regards,
Shaun

The puresim forums feature a great community dedicated to the game so if you have any questions feel free to wonder over there. The address is http://pub5.ezboard.com/bpuresimbaseball

points instead of dollars would be one, but I think there are some others.

Seriously... Any big time Puresim players out there care to give a review?

I followed Shaun's work on Puresim for a year or two, but got into OOTP before it was released. With OOTP and the fact that the file was an uncomfortable download for dialup, I never really got into it.

Does it offer anything that OOTP does not? Is it an immresive single player game?

Now I'm sure I'm going to miss some here so forgive me...

Puresim Pluses
  • "Feels" more like real baseball than OOTP5
  • Excellent AI
  • PSPN - Great immersive factor that tells you fun stuff like who is hot and cold
  • Terrific Support
  • Very good financial system
  • Focus on the single player experince
  • TONS of game engine factors can be customized to your heart's content

Puresim Minuses
  • Simulates relativly slowly on non-XP computers
  • Limited in-game manager mode
  • Points instead of dollars
  • No multiplayer

With a new demo out, I would encourage everyone to give it a try. After that it's only $19.99 which isn't a huge investment.

The XML file does allow you to customize everything under the sun:

Injury frequencies, financial engine, player creation, scouting.

The game isn't as far along as say OOTP so some of the flaws are a little more noticible, but it's a much smaller community and the odds of your suggestions getting into the game are pretty good.

Any reason given for the point over dollars system? One would think that w/o an MLB or MLBPA license, it would be dollars.

You know, I don't know. To me, it's more important that the financial system be somewhat realistic and create a challenge. The ability to edit all aspects of the financial system in the XML (I haven't had a chance to work with it much yet), far outweighs what you lose in 'points instead of dollars'.

Shaun has said there are certain programming advantages for him, most notably in AI, by doing it in points instead of dollars. That's the best answer I can give you.
