OT - Hollywood Gold Cup
Just because the Triple Crown is past, we don't have to stop watching horse racing. There's a pretty big deal race today - featuring one of the nation's top older horses, CONGAREE. He comes off a disappointing but forgivable race, and now tries to run a 1 1/4 mile Grade 1 against some pretty reasonable company.

Well, I guess not.
Anyway, a very nice effort by CONGAREE, who wins with a strong front-end effort, and looked pretty strong down the stretch. For the many (myself included) who wondered whether he was a legitimate classic distance horse, he helped himself with this showing, and probably reasserted himself as a serious player for the Breeders' Cup Classic this fall. |

I broke even by sitting the race out. I didn't attend, I just watch this stuff for recreation - the race was televised at 8pm ET last night. I didn't have a strong feeling about any of the horses other than CONGAREE, so I just watched with generic interest.
