Nevada: TCY Dynasty
I'm going to start posting my ongoing Nevada TCY Dynasty.
This is a game I've been playing a while, and I job hopped (Alexandria, Clemson, Tennessee, Nevada) to get the job and I've decided that's where I'll finish my career, I guess. I had thought about doing a trial run with this Nevada team and then starting all over but it's just been so much fun that I don't want to stop just yet. This is my first Dynasty report, so it isn't going to be very easy on the eyes and a lot will change from week to week. I'm trying to get a consistent, enjoyable format down for the following seasons and any constructive advice is more than welcome. The entire first season (it picks up in 2042) has already been played, so I will post it pretty rapidly. I've just started 2043 but I will probably get this entire season posted before I do anything else with 2043.

Top returning Players:
QB J.J. Parish, 5th year Sr (Overall 85/95 - 75/82, 91/100, 66/86, 82/83, 88/100, 73, 87/100, 94/100, 57, 85) This 6'1" 234 gunslinger, once the top overall prospect in the country, had spent his first two seasons as a backup before being handed the reigns of Nevada's offense. After leading Nevada to an excellent 10-2 season in which he started every game and threw for 2609 yards and 27 TD's against only 12 TD's for a 142.8 passer rating. RB Fernando Banks, 5th year Sr (Overall 81/98 - 79/100, 87/100, 94, 100, 76/95, 78/91, 87, 71, 100, 88/100) Banks is a stellar talent who's been sidelined by injuries throughout his career. After starting for all 12 games and running for 5 TD's as a RS Freshman, Banks could only post 3 starts and 6 games played in his sophomore season and 6 starts in 7 games played as a Junior. A superb blocker, Banks is hoping he can stay in the lineup enough to earn some meaningful touches. DE Mo Grasmanis, RS Soph (Overall 80/95 - 76, 90, 100) Grasmanis, a 6'4", 255lb east coast product (Oscar F. Smith HS, Cheasapeake, VA) earned 2nd team conference honors while starting 9 games, playing in 12, and posting a terrific 11 sacks and 19 tackles for a loss. Grasmanis also excels in the classrom, posting a 3.7 GPA and is working towards a business degree. CB Mo Hoover, 5th year Sr (Overall - 91,82,67,96,73,69,55) A lightly regarded 5'10" prospect coming out of Centennial HS in Peoria, Az., Hoover is an outstanding ballhawk who relies more on sound technique and agressive play than on raw talent. Hoover has started every game in his career, totalling 21 passes defended and 8 INT's which he has turned into 153 yards and 2 TD's. Players to watch: WR Bob Dunne (RS Frosh, 49/77) The 6'3" Dunne, another of the many Californians taking up residence on the Nevada roster, established himself as a big play threat in the spring sessions and has secured the starting SE spot. DT Andre Witt (RS Soph, 60/60) Witt might not be getting a lot of attention after his redshirt freshman total of 1 assist, 1 QB hurry to go with no tackles or sacks to show for his 1 start and 11 games played in, but the undersized 6'2", 267 lb oregonian (Dufur HS, Dufur Oregon) absolutely exploded in the strength & conditioning program during the offseason, adding strength while improving his quickness. Pre-season Ranking: Code:
Coaching Staff: Code:
Coaching moves: Donnie Donovan, Scout - Greal Lakes, has retired. Kyle Breiten, previously from Tennessee University, has been hired. Pat Angulo, Scout - Deep South, has accepted a job offer from South Carolina. He has been replaced by Bryan tate, who held the same post at USC. Offseason Notes: Schedule outlook: Code:

Positional outlook:
QB Good. J.J. Parish is one of the best in the country, Zach Ballew (5th year Sr, 47/47) and Joe Broussard (RS Freshman, 36/71) provide capable depth. The question is who will step in next year, there appears to be no superstars on the roster. RB Outstanding. Gilbert Rodham (5'10", 214, 79/79) could be a big time star if he could stay on the field, but roughly half of his career has been been spent in the trainer's room. Gilbert has missed all or part of 13 games in 3 seasons and hasn't been able to match his RS freshman year production (107.5 YPG, 5.2 YPC, 7 TD's) but if he avoids the injury bug he could have a huge senior season. If he should wind up missing more time, the dropoff in play won't be too noticable. Hardy Simon (RS Soph, 72/72), Alex Cousin (RS Frosh, 53/68) and Foley Brant (RS Junior, 50/66) provide a deep and talented depth chart, while allowing super prospect Curtis Stanley a year to redshirt and develop. FB Fernando Banks (5th year Sr, 81/98) has all american talent, and depth is solid with Jerry Wetnight (RS Frosh, 50/67) and Quintin Fulton (RS Frosh, 49/95) able to fill in and provide quality minutes. TE Roosevelt Clemons (5th year Sr, 73/87) had an excellent season in 2041, earning 2nd team all-conference honors after nabbing 25 passes for 378 yards and 7 TD's. True Freshman Tracy Quarles (35/61) is talented enough to come in and back up Clemons, but Glen Botkin (34/94) and Dave Rigsby (29/43) will allow Quarles to redshirt. WR Jeffrey Ramirez (RS Soph, 66/80) and Bob Dunne (RS Frosh, 49/77) bring youth, energy, and a big play mentality to the position. Fifth year senior Jerome Ballard (37/88) and redshirt sophomore Deion Burton (29/51) bring experience, leadership, and reliable (but unspectacular) depth to the position. 6'2" True Freshman Dustin Palmer will Play if needed, but the other true freshman, 6'0" J.C. Joyner, will definitely redshirt. Joyner is very raw, but has the coaches excited with his tremendous potential. C True sophomore Rico Metzler (31/83) started every game as a true freshman and played very well, but in the offseason he might have been slightly outworked by RS Soph Skip Booker (33/72) might have edged him out in the spring session. This one is too close to call. C.J. Watanabe (29/67) is a capable backup if either Metzler or Booker miss any time. G Redshirt frosh Doug Whitmore (45/77) will step on the field as the starter opposite of true senior Brand Bazzell (53/100) but the depth is severely lacking. Lance Gardner (true Jr., 36/58) is capable, but if RS Junior Max Fulcher (18/25) has to step up and play meaningful minutes it could spell trouble. True freshman Desmond Heckathorn will redshirt. T Cary Ballard (70/81) is a 6'8", 320 lb brick wall. Opposite of him, 6'5" Bobby Chestnut (51/89) is solid. Tackle is another position that isn't blessed with a lot of depth. Florida product and True freshman Jay Carpenter will redshirt, but the coaching staff believes he can be at least an all-conference level player before he graduates. P/K True soph punter Tim Skipper (53/66) has the job locked up, and true senior kicker Zach Noriega (62/78) will give Nevada another solid year. DE RS Soph Mo Grasmanis (80/95) is going to keep opposing QB's and offensive coordinators up at night. Jack Delmonico (5th year Sr, 56/56) will start opposite of Grasmanis and has tremendous pass rushing ability, but is a bit weak against the run. Depth consists of warm bodies, and an injury could easily force the coaches to put super prospect Nicky South (20/93) on the field immediately, instead of redshirting him. DT Andre Witt (RS Soph, 60/60) and Clay Bennett (5th year Sr, 48/51) are strong in the trenches. Super true freshman Ronnie Vanderjagt will redshirt. ILB Zack Rottinghaus (5th year Sr, 45/45) and RS Junior Deron Gilmore (58/58) are solid but unspectacular. Robert Shackelford (Redshirt Junior, 36/78) and Bucky Flowers (true Junior, 24/52) are reliable backups. OLB Billy Despirito (5th year Sr, 64/65) and Irv Null (RS Soph, 71/89) are one of the better pairs of OLB's in the conference. Roman Buckner (RS Frosh, 56/78) is an excellent backup who's going to be a very good starter one day. CB Fifth year senior Mo Hoover exemplifies what this coaching staff looks for in a player. Opposite of him will be Kelly Hall (RS Junior, 31/66) and depth is healthy with Cris Hines (29/38) and Oliver Shwartz (27/52). True freshman Chuck Abrams will redshirt and doesn't arrive with big time credientials, The staff thinks that Abrams (who was ranked 442nd overall, 32nd at his position) could eventually contend for all-american honors if he has the desire. S The only real star potential at the position is redshirting (True Fr. Ray Pugh, 43/90) but the two deep is very solid and Carlos Bruce (RS Soph) could wind up being an excellent safety with some playing time. Recruiting Needs: Urgent: QB, ILB, CB, K Necessary: FB, OB, G, WR Moderate need: RB, T, DE, DT

Navy @ Nevada Recruiting: Code:
Game: Navy (72) @ Nevada (28) {I did this as a recap style report, but I didn't like it so it's the only one done this way.} Nevada 42, Navy 14 Navy's repeated attempts at big plays cost them big today - after converting a couple of big first downs during an early scoring scoring drive, Nevada's defense buckled down and put the choke hold on the Midshipmen's offense. Meanwhile, Nevada QB J.J. Parish connected with WR Jeffrey Rameriz to the tune of 8 catches for 122 yardsand 3 TD's. In spite of both teams stumbling out of the gate early in a penalty-laden first quarter, Nevada was able to settle down and take control of the game in the 2nd Quarter. Nevada's RB rotation worked well with Hardy Simon rushing for 50 yards on 11 carries, in addition to starter Gilbert Rodham's 10 carries for 82 yards and a TD. On defense, Mo Grasmanis was a regular visitor in the Navy backfield, posting 5 tackles and 1 assist to go with his 2.5 sacks. The Nevada defense held the Navy offense to 213 total yards, a large part of that coming from one big play in the first quarter of action. The Nevada defense totalled 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 6 tackles for a loss while holding the Navy offense to 4 of 14 on first down. For their efforts, QB J.J. Parish and WR Jeffrey Ramirez have been named on the TTW "Player of the week" list. Attendance: 42,800 (42,800). Weather: 63 degrees, fair. Code:

Texas A&M (2-0, #19) @ Nevada (1-0, #8) Preview: The Aggies of Texas A&M bring a relatively balanced veer offense (215 yards passing per game, 255 yards per game rushing) to Nevada's Mackay Stadium. A sellout is expected, and regional coverage will be available on TV3. Neither team has faced a quality opponent this far in the season. Players to watch: Nevada QB J.J. Running commentary:
Two big plays open the game - Nevada wins the toss, and scores on their second play, a 13 yard pass from J.J. Parish to WR Jeffrey Ramirez from scrimmage. Then, on the very next play, Texas A&M KR Omar Maloney returns the kick 99 yards for a score. 13:37 1st quarter 7-7 Nevada takes the ball from the 20 and efficiently marches down the field with a mixture of passing and running, but the drive stalls at the 20 and Nevada settles for a 37 yard field goal. 08:03 1st quarter 10-7 Nevada Texas A&M goes 3 and out, and punts to Nevada. Nevada marches down to the 3 yard line but can't punch the ball in. After a penalty, K Zach Noriega kicks 12 yard field goal. 04:39 1st quarter 13-7 Nevada Texas A&M can't move the ball again, and punts to Nevada. After 2 runs for a total loss of 5 yards and a 5 yard delay penalty, J.J. Parish is bothered by the A&M pressure and can't complete the third down pass. Nevada punts to A&M with 46 seconds left in the quarter. A&M converts one first down on an 11 yard pass, but can't keep the drive going and punts to Nevada. Nevada returns the favor by gaining only 1 first down and punting. WR Bob Dunne has been open on a few plays but dropped what would have been a drive sustaining third down pass. The A&M drive stalls at midfield, but a big defensive holding penalty energizes the A&M offense, which marches efficiently down the field and scores on a 23 yard touchdown run by RB Scottie Montgomery. 10:26 2nd quarter 14-13 A&M Nevada takes the touchback and goes 3 and out. Things are really going A&M's way now, as the usually excellent Nevada punter Tim Skipper can only manage a 25 yard shank that gives A&M great field position at the 32 yard line. The Nevada defense appears to hold A&M to a field goal attempt when A&M can't convert 3rd and 9 at the 20, but a roughing the passer call gives A&M the first down with the ball on the 9 yard line. A&M takes advantage of the Nevada mistake, and Scottie Montgomery polishes off the drive with a 3 yard TD. 05:40 2nd quarter 21-13 A&M Nevada takes the touchback and manages only one first down before punting to A&M. Nothing appears to be going right for the Wolfpack as Skipper shanks another punt for 24 yards. A&M QB Danny Bridges shows that the A&M offense is about more than just running the ball, moving the team down almost entirely on a series of deadly passes, and throws an 29 yard dart to WR Van Diamond for a touchdown. 2:16 2nd quarter 28-13 A&M Nevada marches down to the 40, but a desperation 4th down pass is picked off and returned for a 77 yard TD by A&M CB Omar Maloney. 00:35 2nd quarter 35-13 A&M The halftime gun sounds, and Nevada heads to the locker room badly needing some contributions from the offense, the defense, and special teams. A&M takes the 2nd half kickoff and goes 3 and out. Nevada needs some signs of life on offense, but after a 6 yard sack on 2nd down, the J.J. Parrish pass intended for WR Bob Dunne is neatly defended by A&M LB Lamont Hamilton. A&M downs the punt near midfield, and the Nevada defense holds again, forcing A&M to punt from the 44. After converting a key third down, J.J. Parish finds Bob Dunne wide open and hits him for a 66 yard touchdown. 8:23 3rd quarter 35-20 A&M A&M takes the touchback and marches efficiently to midfield (assisted in part by a nevada interference penalty) and converts a 4th and 9 play for 18 yards on a run by Scottie Montgomery. They decide not to try another 4th down conversion though, and settle for a 42 yard field goal. 2:16, 3rd quarter 38-20 A&M Nevada continues to shoot themselves in the foot, taking a false start penalty then a holding penalty on successive plays before punting to A&M. A&M starts their drive on the 19 yard line, and goes 3 and out. Nevada takes the fair catch around midfield, but on the next play the J.J. Parrish pass is picked off by A&M. A&M makes their first big mistake of the day after appearing to be ready to seal the game when Scottie Montgomery fumbles the ball on the Nevada 20 yard line. Four plays later Nevada mysteriously declines to go for it on 4th and 1, and punts the ball to A&M. A&M makes them pay by marching down the field and converting a 32 yard field goal. 5:39 4th quarter 41-20 A&M Nevada marches down the field to the 31 yard line and attempts a 48 yard field goal that falls short. The teams trade possessions until the time expires. final score: 41-21 A&M Attendance: 42,800 (42,800). Weather: 48 degrees, rain. Code:

Coaches' comments: "Obviously we are terribly disappointed. These are the kinds of games we absolutely expect to win, but you have to give Texas A&M credit. They executed their gameplan to perfection, even though we knew what they would try to do. We can't let this loss get us down too much, next week is a bye and we have to use that time constructively." Other top 20 action: home team in CAPS Code:

Running Commentary:
FSU wins the toss and elects to recieve. On the second play from scrimmage, FSU QB Charles McCarthy hits a long pass of 40 yards, then on the next play zings another 18 yarder downfield. On 3rd down, McCarthy rips off a 17 yard TD pass to FSU WR Bubba Black. 12:25 1st Q 7-0 FSU Nevada takes the touchback and starts at the 20. The Wolfpack move down the field with a mixture of running and passing, converting a 4th and 1 on the FSU 30 in the process. After marching down to the 5 yard line, Nevada is unable to punch the ball into the end zone and settles for a 22 yard Zach Noriega FG. 06:00 1st Q 7-3 FSU FSU takes the ball on the 20 from the touchback. Charles McCarthy looks brilliant, but can't move the team past the FSU 40. FSU punts inside the Nevada 10 yard line. Nevada marches down the field in a hurry, but another Wolfpack drive stalls in the redzone and Noriega converts another field goal, this one from 34 yards as the 1st quarter expires. Start of the 2nd Q 7-6 FSU FSU starts the drive from their 28 yard line and Charles McCarthy hits a big 3rd down pass to WR Tommy Robb and moves past midfield. McCarthy looks really on his game until forcing a an interception that was grabbed by Nevada CB Mo Hoover on the 21 yard line and returned for 13 yards. The Wolfpack move to midfield, but another drive stalls there and Nevada P Tim Skipper delivers a masterful 46 yard punt that pins the Bulldogs on the 2 yard line. On 1st down, backup RB Lonnie McCarthy (no relation) tries to run off tackle and is dropped for a 1 yard loss. The Bulldogs get out of trouble in a big way when Lonnie McCarthy takes the 2nd and 11 counter play sprints downfield for 54 yards. QB Charles McCarthy later converts a 3rd and goal pass to Lonnie McCarthy on the 6 for a touchdown. 06:45 2nd Q 14-6 FSU Nevada takes the ball on the 20 and goes 3 and out. Charles McCarthy converts a 4th and 3 pass to Tommy Robb, but on the next play an end zone heave is picked off by Nevada linebacker Zack Rottinghaus in the end zone for a touchback. Nevada's offense can't take advantage, and goes 3 and out. FSU takes the ball and marches down to the 17, but a 34 yard field goal with 21 seconds left on the clock goes wide right. Nevada decides to run the clock and take the opening kickoff in the 2nd half. Halftime 14-6 FSU Nevada takes the kickoff and marches down the field mostly on the arm of QB J.J. Parrish, and finally punches the ball into the end zone on a 13 yard pass play to WR Jerome Ballard. Nevada decides to try for the tie, and Parrish completes the conversion attempt with a pass to RB Gilbert Rodham. 10:48 3rd Q 14-14 FSU starts with good field position on the 38 yard line, but stalls out after gaining one first down and punts from the 48. The ball sails into the end zone for a touchback. Nevada opens with some nice runs, but after two consecutive false starts and a 6 yard sack, the Wolfpack are force to punt from the 19. Tim Skipper gets off an excellent 56 yard punt, and FSU starts with the ball at their 28 yard line. Charles McCarthy opens the drive with a nice 27 yard pass play to WR Clay Upshaw that gets them past midfield, but he then strikes out on the next 3 pass plays and fails on a 4th and 10 pass, giving the ball to Nevada on the 32 yard line. Nevada takes advantage of this opportunity, and marches down the field with a blend of passing and running, finishing off the drive with an 11 yard off tackle run by Gilbert Rodham for a touchdown. 14:06 4th Q 21-14 Nevada The Bulldogs take the ball at the FSU 23 yard line, but after advancing close to midfield are forced to punt, giving Nevada the ball on the Wolfpack 15 yard line. Nevada moves the ball down the field with a heavy dose of Gilbert Rodham, and Nevada QB J.J. Parrish chips in with a couple of nice midrange passes, including a 12 yard pass to WR Deion Burton on 4th and 8 from the FSU 31 yard line. After an FSU offsides penalty and a Gilbert Rodham 5 yard run, Rodham takes the next play off left end and jets into the end zone for a 9 yard TD. 04:45 4th Q 28-14 NEvada The Nevada kickoff sails into the end zone and FSU starts at the 20 with 4:30 to score two quick TD's for overtime. FSU can't get the first down in three tries, however, and DE Mo Grasmanis delivers an 8 yard sack of Charles McCarthy on fourth and two that gives the ball to the Wolfpack offense at the 21 yard line with 3:45 remaining. Nevada keeps the ball on the ground, but can't get the 1st down and botches the 32 yard field goal attempt that would put them up by three scores. At this point, Charles McCarthy appears to be a bit rattled and throws three straight ducks before an excellent 4th and 10 pass is dropped by WR Norman Schultz, giving Nevada the ball on the 20 yard line with 2:16 remaining. Nevada decides to feed Gilbert Rodham on 5 consecutive plays, the last of which is a 5 yard touchdown stroll to add a little RUTS. 01:02 4th Q 35-14 Nevada FSU moves the ball 6 yards but can't convert a desperation 4th down, giving FSU the ball with seconds remaining. Nevada takes a knee, and the game is over. Final: Nevada 35, FSU 14 Box Score: Code:
Injuries: Code:
Coaches Comments: "Obviously a conference win against a top 25 opponent can not be taken for granted, but we have to get better. Hats off to Gilbert Rodham for displaying some of that rushing talent today, and QB J.J. Parrish for having a quiet but efficient day while taking care of the ball. We didn't lose a single turnover today, I'm very happy about that." Other top 20 action: Home team in CAPS Code:

Team Notes: K Zach Noriega has recovered. After winning what looks to be the most difficult conference home game against Fresno State, the Wolfpack are looking to sharpen their teamwork in a home game against the 99th ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane. After clearing what looks to be a relatively short hurdle, Nevada goes on the road to face the 29th ranked Central Houston squad for what might determine the conference champion. conference standings: Code:
Recruiting Update: WR Pearson decided to attend UAB WR Ogden decided to attend South Carolina OG JT Appel decided to attend Arizona State ILB Deion Belt decided to attend Southern California OLB Vernon McGinnis decided to attend Arizona State DE Tony Harmon (Milpitas, CA, Milpitas HS) has decided to attend Nevada Harmon profile: 6'4", 233 lbs. 8 sacks and 71 tackles in 7 games. Rivals.com top 100 member, rated #15 prospect overall. Rivals.com top rated DE in the country. Plans to major in French. Recruiting Update: The Wolfpack are excited about the chances to sign another knockout class to build on the stellar class that they signed last year. At QB, 6'2" gunslinger Erik Griffith is the top QB prospect on the Wolfpack recruiting board, and currently Nevada is the only team with a full offer extended to the Rivals.com national top 100 member. Rated as the 7th best QB in the nation (#57 overall), the Moore, Oklahoma native Griffith is excellent on the field (112/188, 1966 yards, 12 TD's/2 INT's) and in the classroom (3.21 GPA, 1147 test). Griffith is a big Arkansas fan however, and should the hawgs extended an offer he would probably be theirs to lose. Should Nevada come up short in the race for Erik, look for them to immediately offer 6'3" Wayne Browning from Logan, Ohio. Wayne is the 15th rated QB nationally. At RB, the Nevada coaching staff is fairly comfortable with the talent on the roster but has extended an offer to Jamaica, NY's Marvin Malley from Springfield Gardens high school. A source on the Nevada staff was quoted as saying "Malley has all the tools, he's the kind of kid you offer no matter who's on your depth chart. He could be a day one starter for a lot of schools". Malley is looking for to study social work in college, and Nevada just so happens to offer the 7th best Social Work program in the country. UAB could be a team to watch out for, however. Malley has rushed for 1461 yards on 269 carries and 26 TD's, and also brings an impressive 1027 yards recieving and 10 TD's on 55 receptions. Malley is also talented on the other side of the ball, totalling 84 tackles and 2.5 sacks on defense. Fullback is an urgent need for Nevada this year, and Nevada immediately located a prospect the coaches felt great about. Wesley Cash, a 6'1" 216 bruiser from Torrey Pines HS in Leucadia, CA, has 760 yards rushing and 737 yards recieving for 13 total TD's this year. "There's just something about Nevada" Cash said recently, "how can you not be thrilled with a Nevada offer?" Cash is the 3rd rated FB In the nation, 255 overall and sits at 37 on the rivals.com california top 100. Nevada needs to sign one Wide Reciever, but has missed out on some of their top early offers. Ted Jolley, a sure-handed 5'11" california product, currently holds a Nevada offer but favors Arizona State. The Nevada coaches are currently looking high and low to find a skilled player that makes a good fit. There's a rumor floating around that a Westcliffe, Colorado prepster is about to get an offer, but he couldn't be contacted to confirm. At Center, Nevada has no real need, but as with the offer to RB Malley, there is a guy who's just too good not to recruit - El Centro, CA's Quinn Burks. A League coach was overheard saying "He's just off the chart, he might be the best prep center we've seen in more than 10 years." at Guard, Nevada is looking to sign 1 player and that player happens to live right up the street in Reno. 6'5", 286 pound Archie Sanford is the overall #3 prospect in the country according to Rivals.com. While this battle is Nevada's to lose, Sanford is also visiting Stanford and UAB. Signing an offensive tackle is not an urgent need for Nevada, but they would like to bring in some quality talent to compete for a spot and eventually start. Nevada sent an early offer to highly rated, 6'5" Kris Lindsay from Columbus, GA. Lindsay is a long shot however, and Nevada has found a prospect they love in Wally Cooper, a 6'7" tackle with a huge wingspan that the coaches love. Cooper is rated as the 180th prospect overall, and is recieving mail from Arkansas and UAB. Nevada is his leader currently and they are the best program that's currently extended an offer. Kicker is an urgent position of need for the Wolfpack, and whichever kicker inks with them this year is basically guaranteed the staring spot next year. Nevada has targeted Clifton Harding, a 5'10" kicker from Huntland, Tennessee, and hope that they can secure his commitment soon. Nevada is currently happy with the outlook at DE and DT, but they are still going to talk to some of the best players out there about becoming part of the Wolfpack team. Superstar Tony Harmon has already given the coaches his commitment, and he will be the only DE recruited. at DT, two of the best in the country have already agreed to taking an official visit to Nevada. The first is #8 rated overall (#1 DT) Russell Gould, from Bellevue, Washington. Russell is looking to stay close to home, and currently Nevada is the closest of the programs he's visiting. Russell has posted 81 tackles and 7 sacks this season. The other might surprise some people, as he's fairly lightly regarded nationally. Morris Phelps, a 6'3", 241 lb sack machine (82 tackles, 12 sacks) is very raw but has the frame to carry more weight while maintaining his quickness. "He's really, really raw but has the ability to be an all-american one day" his high school coach was quoted as saying. Morris also sports an impressive 3.86 GPA and is a full qualifier with a test score of 1490. Inside Linebacker is a very pressing need for Nevada, and while Nevada currently only has one offer extended the intend to sign 2 players at the position. Tuscon, Arizona (Marana HS) prospect Ross Coker currently favors Nevada. Ross is 6'2" and 217 lbs, and has posted 88 tackles, 4 sacks, and 4 picks his senior season. Nevada is also close to extending an offer to San Jose (Gunderson) linebacker Thomas Carson. Neither is highly regarded (Ross is rated as #296 and Carlson is rated #333 overall) but the coaching staff thinks both have solid skills and good potential. Nevada is looking to ink one OLB, and has one offer extended to Atherton, CA linebacker Rufus Aberdeen. Rufus is a heavy Arkansas lean though, so Nevada will probably have to go hunting to ink a player at this spot. That offer might go to 6'1" Missouri linebacker Chuck Maxwell, who currently holds a visit invitation but doesn't have the offer yet. Cornerback is another huge need for Nevada this year, and they could have problems addressing that need. Currently there is one offer extended to 6'2" Jeffrey Parrish from Chesterfield, SC. Jeffrey says that the distance isn't an issue, but when it comes down to it, distance could be a key factor. Nevada is currently recruiting 5 other cornerbacks, but nobody is willing to say who might get the 2nd offer. Players to watch: Code:

Running Commentary:
Nevada recieves the ball on a touchback. The Wolfpack march down on some nifty passing by J.J. Parrish and great running by Gilbert Rodham to get into the red zone. A 12 yard dart from Parrish to TE Roosevelt Clemons results in an opening drive touchdown. 10:30 1st Q 7-0 Nevada Tulsa takes the touchback and starts at the 20. After a quick 3 and out, Tulsa punts from the 21 yard line. A poorly kicked ball gives Nevada great field position at the tulsa 38. Nevada walks down the field almost at will and scores on a 2 yard plunge by FB Fernando Banks. 5:11 1st Q 14-0 Nevada Tulsa starts at their own 25 and suffers a 6 yard sack on 3rd down. At this point, Tulsa has -3 total offensive yards. Another short punt puts Nevada at midfield and moves close to the red zone, but an unwise pass from J.J. Parrish was picked off on the 20 yard line. Tulsa manages to eek out a first down before punting from the Tulsa 44 yard line. After moving to midfield, the Wolfpack are again plagued by turnovers as Fernando Banks grabs a screen play and jaunts 15 yards before coughing up the ball and giving Tulsa very good field posotion on their own 39 yard line. Tulsa hits a big 42 yard pass play but can't move after that, and settles for a 49 yard field goal. 12:11 2nd Q 14-3 Nevada Nevada gets the ball at the 27 and marches down the field mostly on the back of Gilbert Rodham, but the drive is capped off when 2nd team RB Hardy Simon scores on a nice looking counter play. 04:13 2nd Q 21-3 Nevada Tulsa starts at the 27 and opens with a nice 9 yard run but can't convert the next two plays before punting. Nevada again moves at will, scoring on a 10 yard run by Gilbert Rodham, who's having a great day this far. 00:57 2nd Q 28-3 Nevada Tulsa gets the ball on the 26 and can't move an inch. Parrish completes a pass to midfield but a long field goal attemp fails. Halftime 28-3 Nevada 2nd half Things don't improve for Tulsa as they gain 4 yards on 3 plays and punt. a 33 yard punt gives Nevada midfield possession, and Nevada scores with ease after 4 plays 12:10 3rd Q 35-3 Another 3 and out for Tulsa, Another strong march downfield for Nevada. 7:43, 3rd Q 42-3 Nevada broken record = on. 3 and out for Tulsa. Ballew steps in to take over for J.J. Parrish, and finally Nevada is forced to punt. Tulsa manages their 3rd first down of the day, but can't go beyond that and punt on 4th and 5 from the Tulsa 35. A sack & forced fumble by Tulsa gives the Golden Hurricane great field posession on the 20 however, and Tulsa turns that into a touchdown. Now that the RUTS is on, coverage is switching to a more exciting game... thanks for joining us. Final: 42-10 Nevada Weather: 78 degrees, fair. Code:

Week 7
#14 Nevada (3-1) at #29 Rice (4-0) Coverage on TV3 Team Notes: RB Hardy Simon has fully recovered Game preview: The Wolfpack hit the road to face an undefeated (4-0) Rice squad on the road in what is most likely the game to decide the WAC championship. Rice is led offensively by RB Tommy Folsom, the redshirt senior who has exploded on the scene in his first year as the full time starter. Folsom is currently third in the nation in yards per game, averaging an impressive 164.7 yards per game on the ground and 6.9 yards per carry. While the focal point of the offense is Folsom, you can't ignore signal caller and Texas native Roosevelt Liliedahl. Liliedahl is throwing for 205 yards a game, with 9 TD's against only 2 INT's and an excellent 66 percent completion rate. Players to watch: Code:
Recruiting notes: S John Vines (Offer) decided to attend south florida OT Kris Lindsay (Offer) decided to attend Alexandria OG Maurice Leone has decided to attend UAB. Now that we got that out of the way, let's find out why this has been one of the better recruiting week in Nevada history. The Rivals 100 #8 overall prospect, defensive tackle Russell Gould has committed to play football for the Nevada Wolfpack. "After visiting the campus, I couldn't see any reason to keep looking" said the excited Gould. "It's a beautiful campus, the academics are excellent, and the team and coaches and team are like a family. I'm excited about getting on campus and hopefully making an immediate impact." While that might have had the coaches on cloud 9, the fact that the #3 rated overall prospect, local product OG Archie Sanford, decided to announce. "I'm not even going to fool around with other visits", said Sanford. "I just want to get it over with and focus on finishing up my senior year and getting on campus as soon as possible." The Wolfpack coaches now have to decide if they are going to withdraw DT Morris Phelps' offer. While they are more than set with the position, Phelps could be a difference maker with a redshirt season and some time in the weight room. They have one extra scholarship above their identified needs, the only question is if they decide to hold it for a possible late need at another position. Stay tuned... Recruiting analysis: With big pickups at DT, DE, and G, the Nevada staff is going to focus hard on the real need positions remaining: QB, ILB, CB and FB. At QB, Arkansas has offered Erik Griffith and appear to be the team to beat. Getting Griffith away from the Hawgs would be a huge upset, and the Wolfpack coaches are being realistic about the situation. An offer has been extended to the 9th best prospect in the state of Ohio, Wayne Browning. Running Back isn't a huge need for Nevada but the staff would like to sign an impact type of player. Right now the one guy they have been recruiting thus far, Marvin Malley from New York, has Nevada as his co-leader along with UAB. Wide Reciever is a position the coaches feel they need to upgrade, as there is talent on the roster but no superstar. Visiting is WR Ted Jolley from San Diego University City high school. Jolley is probably leaning to Arizona State right now, but hasn't ruled out the Wolfpack. Wally Cooper, the towering 6'7" prospect from Red Bluff, CA, is probably favoring Nevada but is playing his cards close to his vest. Wally is holding offers from UCLA, Fresno State, Nevada and Toledo, but hasn't scheduled any official visits yet. The coaches really want Cooper, but not bad enough to stop them from offering super prospect Nathan Hardy from Edcouch, Texas (Edcouch-Elsa HS). Hardy is listed at #62 on the Rivals.com overall top 100, and is rated as the #6 offensive tackle nationwide. The Nevada staff has also decided to stop waiting for Tennessee kicker Clifton Harding, and has extended an offer to Georgia prospect Kyle Foust. Foust is actually rated a bit higher by rivals.com, but the coaching staff would happily sign either prospect at this point. The coaches continue to hold an offer for Ygnacio Valley DT Morris Phelps, and expect that he will commit soon. The same can also be said for ILB Ross Coker, but have decided to extend an offer to another lightly regarded prospect in Riviera Beach, Fla (Suncoast HS) ILB Britt Socha. Britt is rated as the 11th best linebacker in the country, and is #15 on the Rivals.com Florida top 100. Britt stands 6'1", 206, and has racked up 96 tackles to go with 4.5 sacks and 6 INT's. At OLB, the coaches still don't love their chances with 6'5" Rufus Aberdeen, but they consider him too good to give up on. "He's solid all the way around" a source close to the coaching staff said of the Atherton, CA prospect. "He plays downhill, and he is excellent at diagnosing plays. He fits what we do very well." The coaches did pay a visit to Missouri prospect Chuck Maxwell, and were very impressed. They haven't offered yet, but probably will sometime in the next week or two. At Cornerback, the coaches are having a rough go of things. Their top prospect, Jeffrey Parrish, has scheduled visits with Lynchburg and Clemson, and while he doesn't list distance as a factor it appears to be a big factor. Another offer has been extended, this one to Redondo Beach, CA (Redondo HS) defensive back Deon Nichols. Deon is one of the tall (6'0") cornerbacks that the coaching staff look for primarily, but seems to favor Utah at this time. USC, Toledo, and UCLA are currently the other teams that have extended an offer. ** breaking news ** sources close to the program indicate that another WR has been offered, somebody from the east coast. More to come when we have all the details.

Running Commentary:
Nevada wins the toss and elects to recieve. Nevada marches quickly to midfield, but pays for a pass play on 3rd and 1 that results in a sack. Rice starts their drive inside the 10 and makes one first down before punting. A deep punt forced Nevada to start with modest field position, but the Wolfpack march down the field quickly, only needing to convert one third down play - a 3rd and 7 play on which J.J. Parrish hit Gilbert Rodham on a flat pass that Rodham turned into a nifty 10 yard gain. Three plays later Nevada punched it into the end zone on a 2 yard Gilbert Rodham plunge off left tackle. 02:52 1st Q 7-0 Nevada Houston takes the kickoff and marches rapidly down the field, aided in part by two Nevada penalties. The Owls drive stalls on the 10 yard line however, and Rice settles for a 27 yard field goal as time expires in the first quarter. start of the 2nd quarter 7-3 Nevada a holding penalty on 3rd down really hurts the Wolfpack, and with a 4th and 12 they punt it to Rice at midfield. Rice can't move the ball however, and after 3 no gains they give Nevada the ball right back. Nevada gets past midfield then moves backwards but converts a risky 4th and 12 from the 40 yard line on a J.J. Parrish 18 yard strike to WR Jeffrey Ramirez. Another 4th down attempt doesn't have the same success however, and the ball goes over on downs on the Rice 32 yard line. Rice tries to convert a 4th down of their own, but without much success. This gives Nevada the ball on their own 29 yard line with 2:23 remaining in the half. Immediatly J.J. Parrish hits a nice 15 yard out route to WR Jerome Ballard, who takes the ball another 19 yards before being drug down. Nevada pitches and throws the ball to Gilbert Rodham before trying a risky WR reverse to Ballard, who turns the corner for a 9 yard gain with 37 seconds remaining. Nevada shows patience in marching down the field using the run and the pass, but they wind up taking too much time off the clock and wind up settling for a 31 yard Zach Noriega field goal with 5 seconds left in the half. 00:05, 2nd Quarter 10-3 Nevada halftime stats: Nevada 15 first downs, 75 yards rushing, 198 yards recieving Rice 6 first downs, 23 yards rushing, 67 yards recieving Rice starts on the 32 but can't gain more than 7 yards before punting. A poor 28 yard punt gives Nevada the ball with great field position, on their 40 yard line. Nevada moves the ball down to midfield, but can't convert a 4th down on the Rice 35 and turn the ball over on downs. Right now, Nevada is looking strong but Rice DE Norbert Vivaldi is giving the Nevada offense real problems. Nevada DE Mo Grasmanis hasn't exactly disappeared either however, and just blows up two consecutive Rice plays to force them to punt from the Rice 48 yard line. Rice punter Freddie Gilmore sends of a beauty of a punt that forces Nevada to start from the 11. After a 2 yard loss on a run play by Rodham, J.J. Parrish fires off a beautifully timed pass on a 15 yard out route to WR Bob Dunne for an important first down that gets Nevada's offense out of the shadow of their own goal posts. Offensive momentum for Nevada is short lived and The Coach is going absolutely nuts on the sidelines after three consecutive false starts force them into a 3rd and 26. Rice gets the ball right at midfield but can only move 18 yards before a 4th and 8 pass attempt nets only 5 yards. Rice has been stuffing Nevada RB Gilbert Rodham most of the day, but Nevada stubbornly keeps feeding him the ball. After a couple of nice first downs the Nevada drive stalls, and they have to punt the ball away to Rice. Mo Grasmanis is starting to really take over the game on defense however, and after blowing up a 2nd down pass play with tons of pressure, he absolutely belts Rice QB Liliedahl and forces a fumble with the QB smartly recovers before bad can turn into worse for Rice. The Owls are forced to punt from the 10 on 4th and 23, and the result is great field position for the Wolfpack offense. J.J. Parrish completes two quick passes to move the offense down to the Rice 3 yard line before handing the ball to FB Fernando Banks, who forces his way into the end zone for a 3 yard touchdown. 11:06 4th Quarter 17-3 Nevada After a touchback on the kickoff, the Nevada defense smells blood, and absolutely shuts down the Rice offense 3 plays in a row, which results in more good field for the Nevada offense. The Nevada offense, mindful of the clock, march methodically down the field, scoring on a 6 yard option keeper by the QB J.J. Parish. The Owls defense looks defeated and tired now. 3:57, 4th Q 24-3 Nevada It's desperation time for the Rice offense, and that only means bad things as a 20 yard pass play was picked off by Nevada linebacker Billy Despirito at the Rice 42 yard line. Game over. Final 24-3 Nevada Attendance: 45,400 (70,000). Weather: 83 degrees, fair. Code:

Coaches' comments: "I couldn't really be happier with the way our team played, particularly on defense. Holding that Folsom kid to 19 yards on 10 carries was just awesome. Mo Grasmanis was playing like an escaped mental patient today, watching him dominate was just awesome. Enough can't be said about J.J. Parish, either. He managed the game very well and was very efficient and patient leading the team." Other top 20 action: Home team in CAPS Code:

Week 8:
Idle. Recruiting: In a real surprise, QB Wayne Browning commits to Bowling Green. Nevada's late push for OT Nate Hardy is a bit too late, and he decides to commit to Texas A&M. The late offer mentioned last week was to Carmel, NY WR Teddy Bautista. Teddy has lined up his five official visits, however, and Nevada isn't one of them. WR George Forrester is visiting Nevada, but the 6'4" player who is considered the top player in Maryland is really favoring Arizona State. Nevada has contacted Sidney, New York (Sidney HS) WR Jonathan Pritchett, and asked him to come for a visit. Pritchett, a 5'11", 180 pound prospect caught 61 passes for a very solid 1423 yards and 11 TD's. Pritchett is also a 4.0 student with a qualifying score of 1458. Pritchett is listed as #27 on the New York top 100 list, and is considered the 26th best WR in the nation according to Rivals.com Wally Cooper is the only OT the staff currently has on the visit list, however that will probably change if Cooper doesn't commit this week. Yet another kicker has been offered, and this time it's West Salem, Ohio's Raymond Bennink. Bennink is listed at #454 on the rivals.com national overall prospect list. New names to the recruiting list - these kids don't have offers but probably will if other players don't verbal soon. QB Mitch Stoffers - 6'2" 198, 197/346 for 2988 yards and 20 TD's, and a very nice 0 INT's to go with 72 rushes for 408 yards and 2 TD's. RB J.C. Withrow - 6'0" 187, 213 rushes for 1373 yards, 13 TD's. 44 receptions for 650 yards and 6 TD's WR Jermaine Devine - 6'2" 203, 51 catches for 1332 yards and 5 TD's. OT Lawrence Dillon - 6'7" 301. ILB Oliver Alexander - 6'1" 204, 86 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 int's. OLB Darrell Anderson - 6'1" 196, 97 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 6 int's. top 20 action: Code:

Nevada (4-1, 3-0) at Hawaii (1-5, 1-2) Team Notes: G Brad Bazzell has recovered. walk-on OLB Xavier Jordan has been released for violating team rules. LB Britt Socha jumped all over a Miami (Fla) offer and committed immediately. DT Morris Phelps decided to attend UCLA in a mild recruiting upset. Mitch Stoffers has accepted an offer from Buffalo University. WR Ted Jolley has decided to attend football at Nevada University! Ted Jolley Bio: Rated #81 on the Rivals.com national top 100. Rated as the 11th best WR in the nation. Rated as the #15 player in California. 5'11", 176 lbs. 3.97 GPA and 1400 on the test. Plans on majoring in Business. 76 receptions for 2012 yards and 15 TD's. 53 tackles, 5 sacks, and 5 int's on defense. Jolley is one of the most polished recievers that Nevada has ever signed. He's got good speed, excellent hands, and the ability to run excellent routes, something most high schoolers don't quite possess at this level. Recruiting Analysis: 12 scholarships remain. Erik Griffith (Moore, OK) is visiting Akron, Arkansas, Iowa State, Nevada, and Wytheville. He is looking primarily at academic and distance factors, which might help Arkansas greatly. Nevada is also mulling offering Shawnee Mission, KS (West HS) QB Patrick Jurgensen. Patrick is well regarded, being listed as the #128 prospect in the country by Rivals.com. In spite of a fantastic senior season (180/306 for 3036 yards and 17 td's with only 2 int's) he currently has no offers, although Nevada is keeping in touch and won't hesitate to offer when they feel they are done with Griffith. Game Preview: Hawaii is an absolutely dismal team, ranked 112 out of 117 teams. 'nuff said. Players to watch: Code:

Nevada takes the toss and moves down the field at will, scoring on a 6 yard pass from J.J. Parrish to Fernando Banks, but the extra point is blocked. 11:07, 1st Q 6-0 Nevada Hawaii moves down the field smartly before turning the ball over on downs on the Nevada 32 yard line on an attempted pass play that Jack Delmonico ruined with good pressure. The Hawaii defense hangs tough and forces a midfield punt from Nevada. On Hawaii's first play, a great hit forces a fumble and Nevada recovers already in scoring position. J.J. Parrish tosses a 15 yard TD to WR Bob Dunne on the next play. 01:21, 1st Q 13-0 Nevada More bad news for Hawaii, after gaining 1 yard in 2 plays Nevada LB Billy Despirito picks off a Bryan Turnbull pass and returns it 7 yards, giving Nevada a first down on the Hawaii 23 yard line. The Hawaii defense does it's job though, and forces a 36 yard field goal. 13:06, 2nd Q 16-0 Nevada Nevada DE Mo Grasmanis gets tremendous pressure on a 2nd down pass attempt, and then finishes the job with a 6 yard sack on 3rd down. Nevada marches down and scores a 3 yard pass from J.J. Parrish to Gilbert Rodham. 06:51, 2nd Q 23-0 Nevada A desperation 3rd and long is picked off by Nevada safety Carlos Bruce, giving Nevada the ball on the Hawaii 34 yard line. J.J. Parrish scrambles from the 5 and caps off the drive with great ease. 04:06, 2nd Q 30-0 Nevada Hawaii gets down to the 34 yard line on a big pass play and turns it into their first points of the day. 2:22, 2nd Q 30-3 Nevada Nevada runs out the clock, and tries a 50+ yard field goal that falls short. halftime 30-3 Nevada halftime stats Nevada 16 first downs, 89 yards rushing, 167 yards passing Hawaii 8 first downs, -1 yards rushing, 69 yards passing. #12 Nevada (5-1, 4-0) at Boise State (0-4) Preview: This should be another real yawner of a game. Players to watch: Code:
Team Notes: Fernando Banks has fully recovered. Recruiting Update: Wally Cooper has committed to UCLA Erik Griffith has committed to Arkansas (Not a surprise, but disappointing) Cornerback Deon Nichols has committed to Nevada! Profile: 6'1", 166 lbs from Redondo Beach, California (Redondo HS) 3.78 GPA, 1386 test score #183 rated player in the nation (Rivals.com) #20 rated Cornerback in the nation #29 rated player in California 53 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 12 int's 44 rushes for 230 yards and 1 TD. Nichols is a bit on the raw side, but the coaches love his ballhawking style and his potential is excellent. Defensive Coordinator Moe Partin likes taller, more physical cornerbacks to match up against the new breed of tall, physical recievers and Nichols fits that profile. Inside Linebacker Ross Coker has committed to Nevada! Profile: 6'2", 217 lbs from Tuscon, Arizona (Marana HS) 4.0 GPA, 1338 test, wants to major in Jurisprudence #296 rated player in the nation (Rivals.com) #16 rated ILB in the nation #1 player in Arizona 88 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 INT's 8 receptions for 82 yards and no TD's Coker has the frame to carry more weight, and he'll need a redshirt year to gain some mass and strength. The Nevada coaches love his versatility. Fullback Wesley Cash has committed to Nevada! Cash plays nasty though, and that realy won the coaches over. Running Back Marvin Malley has committed to Nevada! Profile: 5'11", 206 lbs from Jamaica, New York (Springfield Gardens HS) 3.95 GPA, 1346 test, plans on majoring in Social Work. #32 player in the nation (Rivals.com) #5 rated running back in the nation #1 player in New York 269 rushes for 1461 yards and 26 TD's, 55 receptions for 1027 yards and 10 TD's 84 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 int's Malley's verbal commit has thrilled the Nevada coaches. Running commentary:
Nevada takes the touchback and after a short run by Hardy Simon, two consecutive sacks send Nevada back to punt from the 13. A decent 38 yard punt is returned to the Nevada 35. After a defensive offsides penalty, things get really bad for Nevada when stellar DE Mo Grasmanis goes down with a serious injury. Replays show it to clearly be a broken leg. What a blow for Nevada. Two plays later Nevada is called for illegal contact. At this point, Boise doesn't need to even run plays, Nevada's defense is moving them along pretty well at this point. Nevada's defense winds up holding Boise State to a 33 yard Billy Joe Shepard field goal. 10:50 1st Quarter 3-0 Boise St. Nevada takes the ball from the 33 and puts together a modest drive keyed by an 18 yard Hardy Simon run and caps it off with a Zach Noriega 42 yard FG. 07:10 1st Quarter 3-3 Boise State takes the ball at their own 22, and manages one first down before punting. Nevada starts on offense from their 29, and Hardy Simon goes to work on the first play with a nifty 28 yard burst off left tackle. The offense can't quite get out of first gear however, and after 3 plays net 0 yards the Nevada punt goes into the end zone for a touchback. The Broncos' offense is having the same problem getting untracked, and 3 plays after a Nevada penalty gift wraps a first down Boise St. is forced to punt right before the first quarter expires. Nevada KR Hardy Simon fair catches the punt on the Nevada 32. On the next play Simon runs a sweep that goes for 14 yards, and then J.J. Parrish finds a wide open Jeffrey Ramirez on a seam route for a big 46 yard gain. On the next play Parrish finds FB Fernando Banks open in the flat and Banks takes it in for an 8 yard TD. The extra point attempt is blocked. 13:51 2nd Quarter 9-3 Nevada The Broncos starts their drive from inside the 20 on the 19, and on third and eleven Boise QB Leo Gonzolez tosses a nifty 17 yard pass to WR Richard Coles for the first down. Boise can't keep the momentum going however, and are forced to punt 3 plays later. Bert Bentley sends off a booming 52 yard punt that Pins nevada inside the 10 yard line. Starting from the 7, Nevada manages another first down and not much else, and eventually sends off a 42 yard punt from the Neveda 23 yard line. A few nice runs key a solid drive for Boise State, but after marching to the Nevada 28 yard line a 45 yard Billy Joe Shepard field goal sails wide left. The Nevada offense is still in the garage however, and after a couple of positive plays the drive stalls the Nevada punt is downed at the Boise 18 yard line. RB Gus Steidl opens up the drive with a nifty 31 yard run, but after a penalty and a 5 yard Jack Delmonico sack the defense takes matters into their own hands, and Sophomore Cornerback Oliver Shwartz picks off an errant Gonzolez pass and takes it 52 yards for the score. Nevada decides to go for 2, but the conversion pass attempt falls harmlessly to the turf. 01:52 2nd Quarter 15-3 Nevada Boise reels off a couple of nice runs, but Nevada's defense is in prevent and Boise just lets the clock roll off. Halftime 15-3 Nevada Boise takes the second half kickoff and manages a first down on another Nevada penalty, but can't do much else with it. Boise sends off a 47 yard punt that is returned 7 yards by Mo Hoover. After two false starts and a Broncos pass interference call, Nevada gets some offensive spark on an 18 yard Alex Cousin run, and two plays later Parrish connects with Ramirez for a nice 19 yard pickup. Parrish finishes off the drive with a 9 yard pass to Bob Dunne. 07:38 3rd quarter 22-3 Nevada After the Nevada defense forces a 3 and out, and it looks like Nevada is starting to get rolling on offense, another Nevada drive stalls and a fourth down and 15 pass attempt is destroyed by Boise DE Mo Greenberg's immediate presence in the backfield, and the result is an 8 yard sack and turning the ball over on downs. Nevada's defense is turning out to be an offensive force however, and on a third and 15 another Gonzolez pass is picked out of the air, this time by Safety Tyrone Richardson. Richardson runs this one back 54 yards for the score. 01:46 3rd Quarter 29-3 Nevada Nevada's offense has to go into pass only mode, and the Nevada defense gets steady pressure on Gonzolez. Nevada's offense produces another nice drive, and a score. 11:01 4th Quarter 36-3 Nevada RUTS mode. Final: #12 Nevada 39, Boise State 3 Attendance: 11,400 (30,000). Weather: 56 degrees, fair. Code:

Coaches' Comments: "You should never take a win for granted, and I'm not going to start doing that now. We are playing good football now, but honestly the first thoughts in our mind are for the health of Mo Grasmanis. The doctors are evaluating him right now, so I can't comment on his status. I think we're going to rest Jeff Ramirez for a couple of weeks, that knee keeps giving him problems and we'd like him at 100%." Other top 20 action: Code:

Nevada (BCS #7, 6-1, 5-0) at UTEP (BCS #37, 5-2, 3-2) Coverage on TV4 Preview: After what amounts to two exhibition games, Nevada goes on the road against a respectable UTEP team. The key for Nevada will be playing without outstanding DE Mo Grasmanis, who suffered a terrible compound fracture injury last week. Players to watch: Code:
Recruiting: Rufus Aberdeen, as expected, committed to Arkansas. Also as expected, an offer has immediately been extended to Lancaster, NY linebacker prospect Tito Halas. At Cornerback, two offers have been extended, but most likely the coaches will only take the first one to commit. The coaches feel that the most likely event is that Bracey Powell will commit this week or next, and that Sedrick Hotchkiss will wind up a Kansas State signee. That's fine with the coaches, as they feel both have equal coverage ability but like Powell's size a bit more. The coaches aren't out looking for new players, and are confident they can land most of the guys left on their board.

Game Action:
The Miners win the toss and elect to recieve, but have to start out on the 16 after the kickoff is taken out of the end zone. The first drive isn't much to write home about and after 3 plays Utep is forced to punt. Nevada starts off in neutral with two no gainers, but on third down J.J. Parrish hits TE Roosevelt Clemons for a nice 19 yard gain. After two Hardy Simon runs and a QB keeper, Nevada RB Alex Cousin caps off a nice drive with a 18 yard scamper into the end zone that gives the Wolfpack the early lead. 10:31, 1st Q 7-0 Nevada UTEP fumbles the kickoff, but fortunately recovers the ball on the 20. After two impcompletions, a 2 yard Lewis Olin QB draw by means another 3 and out for UTEP. Nevada appears to be focused and march down the field again, with a good blend of rushing and passing. The drive is capped off when J.J. Parrish sits back in the pocket after a nicely executed draw and finds Jeffrey Ramirez behind the defense for a 29 yard TD. 06:19, 1st Q 14-0 Nevada More bad things for UTEP, as Nevada LB Irv Null grabs the Olin pass and returns it 7 yards to the UTEP 27. UTEP defense holds for 2 downs, and a holding penalty forces a 3rd and 17 attempt, which J.J. Parrish neatly converts for a touchdown after he hits Jeffrey Ramirez who had shaken the cover man with a nice double move. The UTEP defense is looking very confused right now. 04:44, 1st Q 21-0 Nevada UTEP gets their first first down on a 12 yard Sammie Bourque sprint draw, but any momentum UTEP has dies an ugly and immediate death when UTEP QB Olin throws his second interception of the day. This pickoff on a long bomb that is snatched on a leaping catch by Nevada safety Oliver Schwartz, who returns it 8 yards to the Nevada 33. things go from terrible to worse after the UTEP defense manages to force a punt but Olin throws his third interception, his second to Oliver Schwartz, who returns it 17 yards to the UTEP 31. Nevada scores 3 plays later on a Hardy Simon 2 yard TD plunge. 14:53, 2nd Q 28-0 Nevada After a no-gain on first down and a 10 yard sack by Jack Delmonico on second down, a desperation third down Olin pass deep down the field is picked off once more, this time it is grabbed by CB Mo Hoover who returns it for 48 yards to the UTEP 10. Nevada goes for the throat immediately, and J.J. Parrish tosses a 9 yard TD to WR Bob Dunne on the second read of the play and The RUTS is on. Total yards for Nevada: 235, total yards for UTEP: 3 13:08, 2nd Q 35-0 Nevada fast forward Final Score: Nevada 59, UTEP 7 Attendance: 42,800 (42,800). Weather: 68 degrees, fair. Code:

Week 12
Nevada (BCS #6, 7-1, 6-0) at SMU (BCS #45, 5-4, 3-3) Coverage on TV5 Preview: Nevada hits the road again, this team heading to the state of Texas to face the SMU Mustangs, who are sporting one of the better rushing offenses in the conference (191.4 YPG). SMU has been devastated by injuries however, and Nevada is playing great football. The Mustangs certainly have their work cut out for them. Players to watch: Code:
Recruiting update: K Ellis Wayne has been offered by Akron, and commits immediately. That's 0-fer-3 on kickers. Eventually, one of these kids will commit. OT Derrick Becker commits to Nevada! 6'5" 282 from Thiells, NY (North Rockland HS) 3.6 GPA, 1286 test, majoring in Marketing #336 rated player in the nation (Rivals.com) #31 rated OT in the nation #25 rated player in NY Becker is a solid OT prospect who's used to pushing around the competition. He's a good prospect, but he's going to have to get a mean streak going. He's got what you look for in a pass protecting Tackle though, good footwork and a wide wingspan. CB Bracey Powell commits to Nevada! 6'0" 182 from Avon, NY (Avon HS) 3.55 GPA, 1279 test, majoring in Sociology #809 rated player in the nation (Rivals.com) #66 rated CB in the nation #50 rated player in NY 45 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 10 INT's 9 catches for 206 yards Powell is more of an athlete than a football player. One of the best track runners in the northeast, Powell might also try to run track for Nevada. OLB Tito Halas commits to Nevada! 6'0" 205 from Lancaster, NY (Lancaster HS) 2.83 GPA, 1313 test, majoring in History #84 rated player in NY 67 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 INT's Halas is a bit undersized, but he's quick, speedy, and not afriad to mix it up. ILB Neil Stancil Commits to Nevada! 6'1" 203 from Port Washington, NY (Paul D Schreiber HS) #82 rated ILB in the nation #83 rated player in NY 97 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 6 int's Stancil is a guy the coaches are really excited about, regardless of his low ranking. He's really raw and will need a lot of coaching, but has top flight natural ability and always winds up around the football. Recruiting Analysis: 4 scholarships remain with two positions of need, QB and K. At QB, it would be a huge upset for Patrick Jurgensen to commit anywhere but Nevada. At Kicker, the fourth player to be offered at the position is another New York native. Sharon Springs, NY (Central HS) kicker Marcus Moss has a written offer from Nevada in hand. He's said that he favors Nevada, but we'll see if the kicker jinx will force Nevada to look around even more. With the other two scholarships, the staff will give one to CB Sedrick Hotchkiss if he decides to come to Nevada, and the staff is still toying with the idea of offering ILB Marlon Tamaarkin. Also, there is a sleeper of a kid who is currently playing TE that the staff might sign & try at another position.

Game Action:
Nevada wins the toss, Takes the ball, and moves to midfield before two penalties put them in a 3rd and long situation that they can't convert. After a lousy 20 yard punt, SMU takes the ball from their own 31 yard line. Nevada's defense is daring SMU to beat them with the pass, but SMU sticks with the run and loses 1 yard in 3 plays. Nevada downs the 37 yard punt, but can't do much with the ball after moving to midfield and punts again. SMU sends off a nice 51 yard punt that gives Nevada the ball on their own 28. J.J. Parrish has passed for 67 yards so far, all of it to RB Simon. Simon caps off a steady drive with a powerful 16 yard TD run. 00:56 1st Quarter 7-0 Nevada SMU starts a nice drive off but can't get past the 50 and is forced to punt. Nevada again stumbles and punts to SMU from midfield. Nevada has the field position locked down, but can't do much with great field position. The first turnover of the day is a fumbled punt return by Mo Hoover and SMU gladly takes the ball at midfield. SMU marches quickly down the field before having to settle for a 22 yard field goal. 03:22, 2nd Quarter 7-3 Nevada Nevada is locked down on offense and has to punt, giving SMU more great field position. SMU moves forward enough to convert a 52 yard field goal. 00:06, 2nd Quarter 7-6 Nevada halftime stats: Nevada 9 first downs, 52 yards rushing, 87 yards passing SMU 6 first downs, 24 yards rushing, 72 yards passing The Nevada defense smothers SMU and forces a quick punt, and Nevada looks like they are about to roll with 3 consecutive plays that net a total of 60 yards. The drive stalls after a big holding penalty however, and Nevada settles for a 42 yard Zach Noriega field goal. 12:13, 3rd Quarter 10-6 Nevada After another SMU 3 and out, Nevada takes the ball and moves it downfield with determination, with a 22 yard pass from J.J. Parrish to TE Roosevelt Clemons giving Nevada an 11 point lead. 02:37, 3rd Quarter 17-6 Nevada SMU is stubborn and sticks with the run, and on a third down and one it appears that the back has convereted but winds up coughing up the ball on a wicked blow from Nevada S Tyrone Richardson. Nevada DT Andre Witt, who appeared to suffer a major injury earlier in the contest, is right there to fall on the loose ball giving Nevada possession on the SMU 47 and a chance to salt the game away early in the fourth quarter. The Nevada offense senses this opportunity, and marches down the field before J.J. Parrish throws an 8 yard strike to FB Fernando Banks for the TD. 11:47, 4th Quarter 24-6 Nevada SMU won't go away, and on a drive keyed by a 50 yard pass from QB Les Singleton to WR Reggie Blanchard SMU scores a TD to keep the game within reach. 09:59, 4th Quarter 24-14 Nevada Nevada gets the ball and after a sack puts them in a third and thirteen on the Nevada 44 it looks like UTEP could get the ball with a great deal of time and momentum, but J.J. Parrish hits WR Dustin Palmer on a 15 yard in route that Palmer quickly takes another 8 yards, giving Nevada the first down in SMU territory with six and a half minutes left. Nevada wants to run out the clock, and SMU is keying on the run effectively because of it. This opens up the passing game however, and on 3rd and 17 Parrish converts another big play, this one for 35 yards to Bob Dunne. This seems to have really broken the back of the SMU defense, and on the next play Nevada backup RB Alex Cousin trots in from 15 yards for the TD. 04:38, 4th Quarter 31-14 Nevada SMU appears to be in real trouble after two sacks for 11 then 6 yards, but SMU QB Singleton shows he's got some third down magic as well and hits SMU RB Ray Reinhardt for a long 51 yard gainer that puts SMU on the Nevada 40 yard line. SMU can't move much closer however, and settles for a 51 yard field goal. 02:37, 4th Quarter 31-17 Nevada The SMU offense hasn't cashed out yet, but after a first down the desperation 3rd down pass attempt is picked off by Nevada S Carlos Bruce, who returns it 27 yards to the Nevada 46 with 1:06 remaining in the contest. Nevada is content after a first down, and takes a knee to end the game. Final: Nevada 31, SMU 17 Week 12, 2042 Attendance: 17,100 (32,000). Nevada (BCS #6, 8-1, 7-0) at San Jose State (BCS #50, 6-4, 5-2) Preview: Nevada goes back on the road for their fourth road game in the last 5 games to face a Spartan veer offense that sports one of the best ground games in the nation. The top 2 running backs have gained almost 1700 yards combined, with the very talented newcomer Xavier Grey accounting for over 1100 of those yards to go with 6 TD's. Nevada counters with one of the fiercest defenses in the land, and rates in the top 10 against the run in all major categories. Players to watch: Code:
Team Notes: DE Mike Turner has been suspended for a major rules violation. Recruiting update: K Marcus Moss Commits to Nevada! it's about freaking time! Recruiting Analysis: 3 Scholarships remain, with two being earmarked for QB (Jurgensen) and CB (Hotchkiss). The last offer is going to Stockbridge, Ga (Stockbridge HS) TE/WR prospect Freddie Fahey. Fahey plays tight end in high school, but the staff like the idea of a bigger, stronger guy in the slot who can punish opposing DB's. Fahey, who is 6'4" and 234, is an excellent reciever (25 catches for 383 yards and 3 TD's) and also fits what the coaching staff want in a player's personality. He's an outstanding student with a 3.51 GPA and a 1454 test score, that wants to study Electrical Engineering. Fahey says that he would like to play close to home, but loves the EE program at Nevada and is probably Nevada's to lose at this point.

Game Action:
SJSU wins the toss, and takes the ball at the 20 after a touchback. The Spartan offense goes backwards and is forced to punt, giving Nevada the ball at midfield. Nevada takes the ball and sets the early tone for the game by feeding the ball to RB Hardy Simon, who carries the offense down the field, eventually scoring on an 8 yard pass play from J.J. Parrish. 09:48, 1st Quarter 7-0 Nevada The Spartans again start way in the hole after an illegal block penalty has them starting on their own 1 yard line. A nifty trap play for Xavier Grey goes for 23 yards on 2nd down though, and gets the Spartan offense out of serious trouble. The momentum fizzles out quickly however, and San Jose punts from the 44 on 4th and long. Nevada makes it quickly to midfield, before a 3rd and 10 pass from J.J. Parrish is picked off and returned for 14 yards by Spartans CB Bryant Pukenas. San Jose's ground game is going nowhere fast, and they can't connect on any of their passes before they are forced to punt. Spartans punter Edgar Linquist is booming the ball today, and he sends off a 55 yarder that has Nevada starting at their own 5 yard line. Nevada starts off a promising drive with runs of 14 and 36 yards by Hardy Simon, but the drive throttled by penalties both teams wind up trading punts three times before Nevada completes a nice 39 yard pass from Parrish to WR Deion Burton on a drive that results in a 30 yard Noriega field goal. 02:10, 2nd Quarter 10-0 Nevada It's Three and out for the Spartans on their next drive. San Jose's offense has shown very little today while The Nevada offense has looked good at times but has been unable to finish drives. Another promising Wolfpack drive falls short as a 56 yard field goal attempt goes wide right as the clock expires. Halftime Nevada 10, SJSU 0 After Nevada takes the second half kickoff and manages to get three first downs before the drive stalls, both teams trade possessions and neither can mount a drive until late in the third quarter when Nevada RB Simon follows his lead blocker, Fernando Banks, into the end zone on a 1 yard dive play. This caps off a nice drive that was keyed by a 30 yard pass from Parrish to Bob Dunne and a 15 yard dash by Alex Cousin 4:50, 3rd Quarter 17-0 Nevada The Spartans are consistently feeding Xavier Grey, but the yards are tough to get and when Spartans QB Trent Baicy tries to catch the defense overplaying the run on second and eight, he finds that Nevada LB Deron Gilmore is in perfect position when Gilmore grabs the pass out of the air and returns it 16 yards. After an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty forces a 1st and 25, Nevada grinds the ball up the field to the 16 yard line where Noriega nails a 33 yard field goal. 00:12, 3rd Q 20-0 Nevada Trent Baicy completes a big 39 yard pass to WR Donny Winslett, but after two sacks Spartans kicker Al Kennedy booms a 61 yarder that would have been good from 65. 12:32, 4th Q 20-3 Nevada Nevada takes the ball and starts after a couple of short gainers until J.J. Parrish hits TE Roosevelt Clemons for 36 yards. Then the Wolfpack coaches decide to ride the legs of Hardy Simon, who's really shined since stepping in for the injured Gilbert Rodham. After converting a big 4th and 7 for 25 yards, Simon finishes off the drive with a 5 yard jaunt for his 2nd rushing touchdown of the day. Simon has 21 carries for 174 yards and 2 TD's on the ground so far, in addition to his 5 catches for 43 yards and 1 TD. The bad news is that the Noriega extra point is blocked. 06:32, 4th Q 26-3 San Jose KR Bryant Pukenas returns a Noriega kickoff for 30 yards, but after a dropped play QB Baicy is obliterated by Nevada DE Sisk, forcing a fumble which Nevada DL Clay Bennett falls on immediately. Nevada keeps the ball on the ground, but a tired Spartans defense offers little resistance and Nevada backup RB Alex Cousin trots in untouched for a 1 yard TD. 02:29, 4th Q 33-3 Nevada at this point it's ballgame. Code:
Injury Report Code:
Coaches' comments "We couldn't sustain any offensive drives early, we've got to get better at moving the chains. Hardy Simon has done a marvelous job for us, I've been so impressed with his attitude, he didn't get down on the bench and when his turn came, he answered the call in a big way. Now, we have to get geared up for the annual showdown with the runnin' convicts, we've been lucky in the last few but it's a rivalry where anything can happen." Week 14
Nevada (BCS #5, 9-1, 8-0) at UNLV (BCS #43, 6-4, 5-2) Preview: Nevada should roll, but in a true rivalry game strange things can happen. UNLV sports an excellent running attack out of the wishbone, averaging almost 5 yards a carry as a team. Nevada's defense has seen a lot of very good running attacks, and has controlled them pretty well. Players to watch: UNLV RB Clifton Hannan 211 rushes for 1042 yards and 9 td's, 30 catches for 245 yards and 3 td's UNLV QB Dandelion Lee 124/202, 1335 yards, 9 TD's/4 int's, 59 rushes for 288 yards and 3 td's Nevada ILB Deron Gilmore 50 tackles, 49 assists, 1 sack, 20 TFL, 1 INT Nevada S Carlos Bruce 35 Tackles, 11 assists, 6 TFL, 3 INT's Recruiting Update: Sedrick Hotchkiss announces: A mild upset in the recruiting world, as Sedrick Hotchkiss picks Nevada over Kansas State. 6'0" 165 from Phoenix, Arizona (Moon Valley HS) #532 rated player in the nation (Rivals.com) #44 rated CB in the nation #6 rated player in Arizona 42 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 10 int's 52 rushes, 286 yards, 5 td's It's not normal to see such highly touted programs battle over a recruit that is rated where Hotchkiss is, but Hotchkiss is another one of those tall cornerbacks with good quickness and a knack for breaking on the ball. "I was really honored to be recruited by such highly regarded programs," said Sedrick in a very recent interview, "when it came down to it I liked both Nevada and Kansas State about the same, but at Nevada I can play in front of my friends and family." Recruiting Analysis: 2 scholarship slots open, two offers extended. QB Patrick Jurgensen is down to Nevada and Texas, and there are whispers that he could be leaning to Texas because he's more familiar with the Big 12 and because his parents would see him play more. This would really leave Nevada in a bind for a QB, the coaches needed to sign at least one this year and whoever signs will instantly be the third QB on the depth chart. TE/WR Freddy Fahey promised his family he'd take some visits, but he is expected to announce his commitment to Nevada after visiting Rutgers and Virginia Beach.

Game Action:
A short UNLV kickoff starts off Nevada on their own 40 yard line. J.J. Parrish opens the game going 4-4 for 43 yards andmoves the offense into position for a 44 yard Noriega FG. 11:04, 1st Quarter 3-0 Nevada UNLV takes the ball at the 20 on a touchback and moves down the field impressively until their drive stalls on the 21 yard line, and a 38 yard Jeremy Purcell field goal attempt sails wide right. Niether team can get going on offense and trade punts once until Nevada moves down on a couple of nice Hardy Simon runs of 9 and 25 yards before J.J. Parrish connects with walk-on WR Walt Booker for a nice 26 yard TD, the first TD in Booker's 3 year career. 12:58, 2nd Quarter 10-0 Nevada After a UNLV 3 and out, Simon cranks off a nifty 26 yard run to start a drive that is capped off by a WR Jeffrey Ramirez12 yard reverse for a TD. 08:14, 2nd Quarter 17-0 Nevada UNLV strings a couple of nice plays together before disaster strikes, and LB Deron Gilmore thieves an errant Dandelion Lee pass and returns it 36 yards to the 11 yard line. Nevada goes for the throat immediately, and J.J. Parrish tosses a perfect fade route to Hardy Simon for the 11 yard TD. Simon is on his way to another superb outing, with 66 yards on 8 rushes and 22 receptions and a TD on 2 catches. 05:23, 2nd Q 24-0 Nevada after picking up a big 3rd and 10 on the 18 with a pass to WR Arnie Jeffries, Dan Lee catches the defense totally out of position and hits Clifton Hannan out of the backfield for a huge 50 yard gain. After losing 3 yards on the next 3 plays, a 33 yard field goal sails wide left. After the teams trade punts, the half ends. Halftime Nevada 24, UNLV 0 UNLV starts the half off with a poor return that leaves them at the 15 yard line before taking a sack that puts them back to the 9. A poorly advised Lee pass was picked off by LB Zach Rottinghaus, who rumbles back downfield 8 yards with it before getting tackled. A couple of miscues push Nevada back, and the Wolfpack settle for a 32 yard Zach Noriega FG. 12:14, 3rd Q 27-0 Nevada the teams trade punts again, but on the very next play after Nevada's punt, UNLV's Lee is picked off again, this time by CB Mo Hoover. After gaining one first down the offense stalls, and Nevada is forced to punt. The Rebels gains 13 yards on a 3rd and 10 play when Lee finds Clifton Hannan, and Purcell finishes off the drive with a 56 yard field goal. 3:25, 3rd Quarter 27-3 Nevada After hitting a big pass play to WR Deion Burton, J.J. Parrish hits his fullback Fernando Banks out of the backfield and watches him take it in 11 yards for the TD. 00:21, 3rd Q 34-3 Nevada Game over. Coaches Comments: "It's a wonderful way to cap off a really great season. It's going to be nice to celebrate the WAC championship and another great, great season here at Nevada but it's only going to last a couple of days before we start bowl preparation. The only injury of note is Bob Dunne, who we hope be back in time for the bowl game." Other top 10 action: Code:

idle. Recruiting update: TE/WR Freddie Fahey has committed to Nevada! 6'4" 234 from Stockbridge, GA (Stockbridge HS) 3.51 GPA, 1454 test, plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering #78 rated TE in the country (Rivals.com) #55 rated player in the state of Georgia 25 catches for 383 yards and 3 TD's Freddie is basically an overgrown reciever who might wind up playing the reciever position in college. QB Patrick Jurgensen has committed to Nevada! 6'1" 183 from Shawnee Mission, KS (West HS) 3.70 GPA, 1349 test, wants to major in jurisprudence. 180/306 for 3036 yards, 17 TD's against only 2 INT's. Also chipped in 5 rushes for 85 yards. Jurgensen isn't a guy with a rifle arm, or an NFL body, but all he does is win in an offensive system that requires the quarterback to make plays. Patrick will probably be on the active roster right away, but he could use a redshirt season. Nevada's recruiting class is full now, there will be a recap after the bowl game. New Year's Tier
Utah (BCS #7, 10-1 overall, Mountain West champs) vs. Nevada (BCS #3, 10-1 overall, WAC champs) In what should be a fantastic showdown, the Nevada defense gets another test against one of the top rushing teams in the land. Utah ranks as the #2 rushing team in the land (2851 yards rushing) and gets it at a clip of 5.26 yards a carry, which leads the nation. Leading the charge for Utah is Senior RB Troy Bertram. Bertram, who stands 5'8" and 192 lbs, finished the regular season fifth in the nation in yards per game, averaging an excellent 146.8 yards per contest - 1615 yards total, and he scored a sensational 22 touchdowns. Nevada loves to load up on the run against wishbone teams like Utah, and the result should be a sensational matchup of Nevada CB Mo Hoover covering top flight Utah reciever Walt Fletcher. At 6'2" and 220 lbs, Fletcher has great physical presence to overpower smaller cornerbacks who try to cover him man on man. Fletcher is a redshirt junior who's started every game and nabbed 36 passes for 859 yards and 4 TD's this season. Hoover won't be intimidated however, and he's going to want to go out and prove that he's not just a hard working overachiever in the last game of his career with Nevada. Mo has started every contest since he stepped foot on campus, and sports a respectable career pass defense percentage of 20.7. This year, Hoover has defensed 9 passes and collected 3 int's. When Nevada has the ball, there are two outstanding options for the Wolfpack to do some serious damage. J.J. Parrish, also in his last year as a member of the Wolfpack, finished the regular season with an excellent 2844 yards on 186 of 302 passing, with 26 TD's and 5 INt's for a rating of 165.7, good enough to be the ninth rated QB in the nation. When he decides to hand it off, it will be to the guy who started the season on the bench but exploded onto the scene after an injury opened the door for him. Hardy Simon has only started 5 games and played in parts of 6 others, but he has accumulated 7 Td's and leads all qualified players nationally in yards per carry with 6.2. Projected over a full season, his starting nubmers would equate to just under 1300 yards and 11 td's. Nevada will have to contend with Utah's excellent DE, J.R. Gaylor. the 6'6" 280 pound Gaylor has posted 17 tackles and 11 assists to go with 9 sacks, 10 TFL, 2 passes blocked, and 7 QB hurries. These are good numbers, but much like Simon he's posted them with only 5 starting games under his belt. Both teams have relatively equal talent, but get things done in different ways. Utah is sporting the healthier squad right now, With only one injury of note (FB Broderick Griesen is listed as "Probable" for one week) while Nevada is without two of their all-conference, potential all-american players (DE Mo Grasmanis and RB Gilbert Rodham) while junior backup ILB Bucky Flowers is listed as doubtful, big play WR Bob Dunne and is listed as questionable, and Nevada's best DT Andre Witt is listed as probable.

Matchups:
Utahs' rushing offense (#2, 245.5 YPG) vs. Nevada's rushing defense (#15, 80.2 YPG) Nevada's passing offense (#15, 274 YPG) vs. Utah's passing defense (#8, 157.3 YPG) Payoff: $17,520,000 Game Action: Attendance: 44,400 (sold out) Weather: 58 degrees and sunny Utah wins the toss and elects to recieve. Zach Noriega boots a 61 yard kickoff that Utah CB Nicky Schnebele returns to the Utah 30 yard line.Utah RB Troy Bertram goes for a quick 9 yards on the first play, but on the next 4 plays goes for 4 yards before Utah is forced to punt. Nevada opens up with 3 pass plays before Hardy Simon busts a nice 11 yard gain off tackle, and follows that with a nifty 14 yard dash. After a delay penalty pushes Nevada back 5, Simon is held to a 3 yard gain forcing 2nd and 12. J.J. Parrish hits, you guessed it, Simon in the flat and he rumbles for 14 yards and a first down. Nevada commits a serious blunder on first and ten however, and the illegal use of the hands call pushes them back 15 yards. a 2nd down dash by Simon nets 13 yards, and on 3rd and 11 J.J. Parrish calls his own number on a naked bootleg and slides just past the first down marker, gaining 12 yards and keeping the drive alive. All goes for naught however, when after two incompletions and a false start penalty Utah S Bucky Glaser picks off an errant Parrish pass and returns it 31 yards before being tackled. Utah tries to throw away from Hoover and catch Nevada off guard on first down, but Nevada CB Kelly Hall is up to the task and the pass is batted harmlessly to the turf. Utah QB Wade Westbrook option pitches to Bertram who sprints outside for a nice 17 yard gain. The Nevada defense looks to be playing a bit on their heels, and Utah mixes things up on a 15 yard pass to RB Dan Schneider on 3rd and 3. After a flat pass to Bertram floats over his head for an incompletion, Wade Westbrook hits a bit play downfield with a 43 yard loft to WR Walt Fletcher, who had great position on the defender and hauled in the pass for a TD. 04:39, 1st Quarter 7-0 Utah Utah sends off a nice kickoff which Nevada WR Jeffrey Ramirez returns for 31 yards to give Nevada possession on the 30 yard line. Utah's defense is all over Hardy Simon this time, and a dive play is stuffed for a 3 yard loss. Parrish recieves some pressure on the next play, and a pass to Bob Dunne is rushed by Utah DE David Jordan's pressure. Parrish completes a pass to Ramirez on the 3rd and 13, but it only goes for 10 yards and Nevada is left with a 4th and 3 on their own 37. Catching Utah totally off guard, the Wolfpack offense sprints to the line of scrimmage and run a quick hitter to Hardy Simon, who had lined up in the slot, for 6 yards and the first down. Simon heads to the sideline needing a quick breather, and in the meantime the Nevada offense sputters and is forced to punt. A precisely placed Tim Skipper punt is taken at the one and is only advanced 4 yards to the Utah 5 yard line. It appears that Utah is going to get out of trouble after a first down Bertram run goes for 6 yards, and then a Schnieder run appears to be close to a first down, but Schnieder is annihilated by Utah S Carlos Bruce, and the ball hits the ground where Nevada DT Andre Witt scoops it up and rumbles 9 yards. Now the Nevada offense is five yards away from knotting up the score. It takes two tough Hardy Simon runs, but on the 2nd he forces his way into the end zone for the 2 yard TD. 14:46, 2nd Q 7-7 Utah again has success on first down with a Bertram run that goes for 10 yards, but Utah can't move the chains on the next set of downs. After a 3rd and 4 sack by Nevada DE's Jack Delmonico and Buddy Heinz Utah is forced to punt. On the ensuing Nevada drive Utah's defense shoot sthemselves in the collective foot with an unnecessary roughness call on 2nd and 10, which gives Nevada the first down and some momentum. Nevada suffers a serious blow on the next play when fullback Fernando Banks has to be helped off the field. Nevada gets down to the 3 yard line but can't punch it in and settle for a 20 yard chipshot and the lead. They sure missed banks on that red zone series. 08:05, 2nd Q 10-7 Nevada Utah keeps hitting nice plays for good yards against the Nevada defense, but the Wolfpack defense won't let the Utes offense put together a sustained drive. After a Utah 3 and out and a poor 26 yard punt, Nevada takes the ball at midfield. Nevada can't capitalize on great field position after Utah DE Emmanuel Whalen drops Parrish for a 7 yard loss on a 3rd and long, and Nevada punts after their own 3 and out. Utah could be hurt by the field position swap, they have had really poor punting today. Utah shows some balance in their offense on the next drive and move the ball down the field with a combination of running and passing, but the drive stalls on the 26 yard line and the 43 yard Trent Rhodesfield goal attempt sails wide left. Utah CB Quinn Johnson show a real lack of class and just levels Nevada QB J.J. Parrish as he takes a knee to end the half, and Parrish needs to be assisted off the field. The Nevada coach is absolutely pizzled as he runs over to the Utah coach and unleashes a verbal tirade before being pulled away by security. unbelievable... let's see a replay. NEVA 1 Parrish ran and dropped to one knee for -1 yards. Tackled by UTAH 25 Johnson. NEVA 1 Parrish was injured on the play. and the refs didn't even throw a flag. Halftime Nevada 10, Utah 7 Leaders: Code:
2nd half: As the teams trot out on the field after halftime, it would appear that Nevada's J.J. Parrish is ready to go. After taking the kickoff to the 24, Parrish is sacked for a 5 yard loss. The Utah defense has Simon all bottled up right now, and a nice Parrish scramble doesn't get enough yardage to move the chains. The Nevada P Tim Skipper proves he can send off some pretty dreadful punts as well, and gives Utah good field position on the Nevada 48. Utah can't move from here though, and send off a nice 51 yard punt that leaves Nevada pinned on their own 1. Nevada moves only 3 yards in 3 plays, but Skipper sends off a nice 41 yard punt considering he started the play inches from the back of the end zone. Bad news keeps coming for Nevada in the form of a serious injury to DE Jack Delmonico. Utah immediately takes advantage and the lead with a 25 yard TD pass to Walt Fletcher. 08:25, 3rd Quarter 14-10 Utah Nevada finds a groove on offense, and a combination of Parrish passing and Simon running moves the team down the field on a controlled, clock eating drive that is capped off by a 37 yard TD strike to Bob Dunne. 04:09, 3rd Q 17-14 Nevada Both teams are doing a good job killing their own drives in the fourth quarter, Utah doing it with foolish penalties and Nevada with WR's that are struggling to hold on to the ball. The teams take turns trading possessions and killing drives with stupid mistakes until Nevada gets in range to convert a 30 yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining. 00:16 4th Q 20-14 Nevada final: Nevada 20, Utah 14 Box Score: Code:

Recruiting Recap:
interest: ** - a bit of a stretch $$ - likely interest ## - almost certain interest Code:
Recruiting Analysis: This is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best overall, recruiting classes in Nevada history. Not only does it have star power, but the staff is happy with how they addressed their needs. They were disappointed with how they had to shop around for a Kicker, and they would have liked to have wrapped up a QB early in the recruiting process which would have allowed them to sign two and redshirt one, but they met the needs that they spelled out in the beginning of the season. Rankings are nice in recruiting, and the Wolfpack have signed a well regarded class, but it's the sleepers that really define a class like this. The staff is really high on Wesley Cash, and felt he was without a doubt one of the top 100 players in the country. Another guy they thought was underrated nationally is Ross Coker, who should be on the two deep the day he steps foot on campus. The guy they consider the biggest steal is Neil Stancil however, who could go from a guy who was totally off the recruiting radar to a guy who competes for national honors.
