OT - Racing fans - Big Pick-6 carryovers for Wednesday

Here's a story I received from Churchill Downs today:

- - -

Churchill Downs Wednesday Pick Six Carryover at $329,989; Hollywood Park Upward of $170,000

For a sixth consecutive day on Sunday, racing fans failed to hit the Churchill Downs Pick 6 wager, resulting in a carryover of $329,989 for the track's Wednesday racing card. Hollywood Park also enters Wednesday racing on a substantial carryover, with $174,449 in the Pick 6 pool.

Wednesday's $2 minimum Pick 6 wager will be conducted on Churchill Downs races 5 through 10 and on Hollywood Park races 3 through 8. Official racing programs for Wednesday's card will be available on Tuesday, June 24. Post time for Wednesday's first race is 1:15 p.m. ET at Churchill Downs and 1:20 p.m. PT at Hollywood Park. Post time for the first of the Churchill Downs Pick 6 races is scheduled for 3:25 p.m. ET. Hollywood Park's Pick Six kicks off at 2:20 p.m. PT.

For more information, visit www.churchilldowns.com or www.hollywoodpark.com

If anyone here miht like to discuss teh races for tomorrow (especially at Churchill Downs), I'd be interested. I'm planning to try to play the Pick 6, and see what happens - with that much carryover money coming in, Wednesday's Pick 6 pool can be a positive expectation play, not something you see much of in horseracing.

Okay, after my first run through it, I have my first round of picks. The line represents a meaningful space between selections, so far:

5th
#12 SOUTH CHRISTIAN
- - -
#1 THOMPSON GEE
#5 THE CRAFTSMAN

6th
#9 STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
#6 SILVER IRON

7th
#2 DANCIN RAHY
- - -
#9 MANNIE'S MISTAKE

8th
#3 SHAKE THE BANK
#8 FORMAL DECREE

9th
#7 HALORY LEIGH
#5 WOOF

10th
#4 ADREAMISBORN

I'll probably knock a couple more off this list before putting a bet down... I'm going with a combination of value and quality in the above- we'll see how it pans out.

Well, after three races at CD, it looks like we've been clapping erasers over our heads - no winner had paid over $5.40 yet.

Certainly doesn't bode well for lynch's picks... and probably not mine, either. (Not that I believe there is such a thing as "favorite bias" in racing...)

Race Summary
FAVORITE MAGIC, well placed inside from early on, eased out and split foes three wide in the upper stretch and drove clear under urging. SOUTH CHRISTIAN angled in early to duel for the lead, battled with UNLEASH THE LAW, gained a slight edge on the turn, showed the way into the final furlong and was second best. NIPPERT, never far back while four wide, came a bit wider for the drive and offered a mild gain. THIS IS DOC tracked the pace four wide into the final furlong and flattened out when the test came. CAMARON'S HARBOR followed the pace five wide into the stretch, held his position but couldn't menace. THOMPSON GEE, outrun to the stretch, improved position but wasn't a threat. UNLEASH THE LAW stumbled at the start, quickly recovered, angled inside to gain a slim lead, dueled until the stretch while inside of SOUTH CHRISTIAN and tired in the drive. ELEGANT AMBASSADOR never menaced. THE CRAFTSMAN bobbled at the start and was finished leaving the turn. WHAT A REBEL was done early. CLASSIC BEECH dwelt at the start, was outrun always and distanced in the stretch.

By my count, Lynch gets two winners, I get one, and both of us fail to cash a nickel from the affair. Alas...

It figures, I spent about an hour looking at that. The other day I walked into the sportsbook at Bally's in LV, and hit 2 exactas in 5 mintues just looking at the screens and taking some combination of the 3rd, 4th and 5th choices.

I was pretty happy with Chicken Soup Kid in the 8th - paid 15.00 to place.

I guess it was a day for buying into a huge pick 6 ticket, paid over a million one.

One guy in the country picked all six, spending over $6000 on his ticket. Talk about taking a gamble....
