Whatever happened to...predictability
The milkman, the paperboy, evening TV.
Everywhere you look , everywhere you go (there's a heart).
There's a heart
A hand to hold onto.
Everywhere you look , everywhere you go.
There's a face
Of somebody who needs you.
Eveywhere you look,
When you're lost out there and you're all alone,
A light is waiting to carry you home,
Everywhere you look.
Everywhere you look.

I'm confused about the question.

A has been in my mind is someone who is still playing but is past his day. So, the answer to "where is he now" is pretty obvious. He's still playing. I'll admit I'm confused but I'll answer in my own way; historical has beens.

Deion Sanders - definately a has been in his last season and I don't know where he is. He has a lot to hate surely but he did write Buccaneers on his headband at Florida State and so I've always liked the guy. I have that right.

Babe Ruth - a has been when he played with the Braves but who doesn't love the Babe???

Errict Rhett - a pretty solid RB who listened to bad agent advice and never had another good season. Certainly not a star but a guy who hits 1000+ yrds in each of his first 2 season ( for the Bucs no less, impressive but certainly no Corey Dillon for Cincy by any means ) and clocking in 1207 yds/11td's in his second is a player. Good kid, made huge mistake. Grinded out 5 more years and managed to match his second years td's in those 5.

Jerry Rice - ok, certainly not a has been except for one hugely important night last January ( thank gawd ), but he is one of my most respected players of our time and the 49'ers let him go because they thought he was a has been. He deserves to be mentioned.

Joe Namath - his last NY years were an embarrasment to the sport, lets face it. Still, while I'm not a Jet's fan, Joe was cool. I bought the hype. While the hanging on years were embarrasing, it didn't really tarnish the image. I'll go with Joe.

Lot's more of course and these aren't necessarily the best but they came to my mind first; make of that what you will.

Isn't there a difference between:

"Whatever happened to...?"
and
"What happened to...?"

The former seems to ask "we haven't heard from this guy... whatever happened to him anyway?" The latter is a different question - like with Duval: "what the hell happened to David Duval, he was really good and then boom - what happened there?"

Oh, well... semantics.

Now that I've cracked and made that admission, I wonder if I'm only a couple of steps away from wanting to tongue-kiss Jaromir Jagr and give Bobby Clarke a blowjob.
