(POL) FOX News Alters Photos of NYT Reporters
http://mediamatters.org/items/200807020002
Summary: During a segment in which Fox & Friends co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade labeled New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe "attack dogs," Fox News featured photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered -- the journalists' teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and portions of Reddicliffe's hair moved further back on his head. |

This was apparently done in retaliation to a piece in the Times stating that Fox News is losing viewers to CNN and MSNBC:

Reminds me of the time they "mistakenly" labeled Mark Foley as a democrat.

Utter ridiculousness. The first guy's chin looks like a butt-face costume.

So it's "masturbating" to comment on a news channel manipulating images to promote an agenda?
Wow. Ok. |

All of the news sources contain inherent bias. FOXNews is no worse than CNN or MSNBC, though I'm sure that most of the posters in this thread would argue that point. |

If CNN or MSNBC have doctored photos in their stories to make certain people look like bafoons, I'd like to see a link to that.
Or are you just talking out of your ass? |

Just to play devil's advocate... would anybody be willing to wager that the "actual" photos are undoctored?

No idea. But if so, they needed to get someone better to do the touch ups. The guy in the bottom picture has a pretty f-ed up complexion in the original pic. |

They still haven't put rockets on pickup truck gastanks, but they are definitely joining the ranks of modern media. Welcome to the 20th century Fox News!

No, they're stupid sarcastic comments that have as much basis in fact as the perception he tried to advance that FoxNews is the only news outlet with inherent bias built into the reporting. |

For one, we can see that the photos shown on Fox News is vastly different than the originals. Secondly, anyone who has messed around with Photoshop for a few seconds can spot the obvious use of a smear tool. Look at the guy's forehead and hairline in the second photo. Does that look even close to natural to you? |

Actually, I think he was arguing your point that "FOX News is no worse than CNN or MSNBC," not the point that they all have bias. Because doctoring photos *is* worse than having some bias. |

Baloney. It's on the FXNC version of the Today show for crying out loud, that's not exactly what I'd call hard news. And it's the weather guy & the sports guy to boot. Overall it's entertainment programming that happens to have some news elements. If somebody goofing around with a picture (if in fact that's what actually happened) in that context is considered a big deal to some, more power to them for taking time away from the lefty's who could have used the time to do something that actually caused damage instead of frittering it away on this.

I did just run across this response from the New York Times that had a pretty good line in it.
Quote:
Love that last line. I'm more offended by the ineptitude of the person that photoshopped those than anything else. Fox News should be able to manage better than that. |

c'mon, this isnt ok for anyone to do. Right or Left. MBBf, Jon take a step back, a deep breath and say, "Yeah, that's pretty shady to do."
What's amazing to me is when I saw the top and my jaw hit the desk, i slowly reeled it back up only to read some of the following posts and have my jaw smack off the desk again....bruising is coming but Im calling Fox News to help me doctor my face up.
