Alright boyz, here we go: Shadowrun Returns
Partly because I've been playing for the last three and a half hours, partly because I'm surprised SirFozzie hasn't started this thread yet.
What race/class are those of you who've picked it up playing? I'm an elven Decker. And because I'm dumb and can't tell the difference between the symbol for male and female, I'm a female elven Decker. |

I'm loving this game so far. I'm a male Human Shaman.

Human and I went for a custom class, focusing on ranged skills now, but will add some Mage attributes down the road.
Really liking it so far, though I just got to the seamstress guild. Like I said in the other thread, love the X-Com style combat and the story is great, a throwback to the old style RPGs in presentation and depth. |

I'm a male human mage so far. I'm loving it. Great early story that has me immediately hooked and I like the style of combat.

Thanks guys, glad to hear it's looking good early. I was going to hold off until reviews but ended up purchasing it about 8 hours before release last night.

I know nothing about this game - it looks similar in gameplay style to the original Fallout. Is that correct?

Feels similar based on what I've played of the original Fallout, but I've been playing this game for all but like an hour since it came out, and Fallout I seldom get more than 15 minutes into. |

To some degree, yes. A mix of Fallout, X-Com, and the SNES Shadowrun. I'm still playing it. I can't wait to see what modders comes up with.

Somebody on Metacritic said 12 hours, but you know modders will bump that up.

This is the first Kickstarter that's come through for me.
Dwarf Decker. So far I'm loving it. It's a bit simple, but the ambiance is fantastic. I love the world they've crafted. I also love turn based combat, so that helps as well. Given the modding tools they've released, the campaign may only be 12 hours, but this could have some very long legs with help from the modding community. |

Just sitting down to play, had to work today and then deal with girlfriend and some other issues.
Elven Decker or Street Samurai, haven't decided...

I'm still sticking with a Shaman specialist, although I may eventually evolve into a Decker.
The writing for this story has been spectacular.

Alright, 3 hours later and I must go to bed. I am loving it. The Matrix is exactly how I pictured it should be playing the game, reading the books and what not.
Best backing I have made yet on Kickstarter.

I almost starting playing today.. but I have to get packed.
Is the auto saving at certain points, or lack of a save whenever you want system a bad thing with this game? |

Played about 3 hours last night going with a human mage. So far it's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for when I backed the Kickstarter. Really enjoying the story and dialogue so far. Great to see this is sitting near the top 10 for players on Steam and atop the sales chart.

I'm not a huge fan of the save system, but it also hasn't been an issue for me yet. The game saves every time you complete a segment and exit to a new area which is typically every 15-20 minutes or so. If you're short on free time and play in short bursts I could really see it being an issue. The other place it might cause a problems is user generated stories. Unless there's another method to force a quick save it will prevent having custom campaigns that spend a lot of time in one area Last edited by mckerney : 07-26-2013 at 01:11 PM. |

I haven't checked yet to see if it's a rolling autosave or just one. If it's the latter, that's problematic; I got my ass kicked in a quest last night, and I don't think I can advance the story unless I can go back and purchase some additional supplies. A rolling autosave might let me do that. A single autosave means I'll have to start all over if I want a realistic shot at finishing the campaign. |

I think it's just one save file, but there is a "Rewind" button. EDIT: Haven't used it myself, but here's info on it from a comment on RPS. Quote:

You can also copy an autosave before rewinding, I believe, which I'm going to do as I got to one of the end segments and kept getting my tail kicked, so I need to rewind and get more supplies.

I'd bet you're getting your ass kicked in more or less the same place I am, which is where the saves even began to matter to me. Heh.

Yeah, I won't be able to touch this again until Sunday night. I created a Hybrid Elven Decker / Samurai and I am loving it......
Also, I have pulled down two user DLC's to play after I am done with the main one.

I discovered a bug. In the Matrix, but when it bounces between physical combat and Matrix, the Matrix screen doesn't show up, so I'm kind of stuck on what to do now.

I didn't find it that much of a problem.. since it does real world damage instead of IP damage It didn't come close to jacking me out. The end boss battle was a bit disappointing when fixed, but I loved talking to all the folks at the end.

TBF I screwed up with my party on that run. Had a halfway decent decker who I should have run with and used my gold star party. Instead I went with a decking expert and it ended badly.
I rewound and went with my gold star party and things are going well thus far.

Took me awhile to warm up to the game play, but now im enjoying it quite a bit. The linear gameplay, at first, was boring to me. But, now that i'm really getting into the story, I dont mind the "on rails" feel.

Finally got a crack at this late last night after a long day and got in some time before passing out. Up early and ready to dive back in. Love it so far!
EDIT: And for you old guys, this has a Blade Runner/Escape From New York type feel to it. Pretty cool. Last edited by Dutch : 07-27-2013 at 06:26 AM. |

Like the game so far - really like the heavy story elements, though the lack of saving outside certain places is highly annoying to me.

So how do I end combat? I keep having fights but then after I win the combat never ends, even after repeatedly pushing the end button - very annoying.
