College Football Week 13 (Rivalry Week) discussion
This weekend is the last week of the regular season for most teams. There are a ton of rivalry games going on this weekend, including:
Texas at Texas A&M Alabama at Auburn Pitt at West Virginia Ole Miss at Mississippi State Oklahoma State at Oklahoma Florida State at Florida Missouri v. Kansas Utah at BYU UCLA at USC And I'm sure there are several more that I've missed. (edit: yep!) Washington State at Washington Clemson at South Carolina Georgia at Georgia Tech Arizona at Arizona State Rivalry games are always great to watch, because there is a whole lot of unpredictability in these matchups.

I can't imagine being a Big 10 fan, having your teams play their final regular season game in mid-November.

Being an Indiana fan, the football season ending early actually turns out to be a blessing. Plus, we don't have to hear about Iowa either, so that's nice.

I knew I was forgetting another one. I should have remembered this one, because a buddy of mine's nephew is a redshirt freshman for Wazzou.

That's too bad. I kind of liked having the season end early, it seemed 'old-school' to me for some reason. This is probably done to help Big Ten teams stay in the media spotlight for another week, so that they don't run the risk of being forgotten by voters for the last two weeks of the season. Also, since I'm visiting family on Thanksgiving weekend, I don't get to watch football as much. |

Sadly, not mine. We spend most of our time at my aunt and uncle's, and if the TV is on, he's usually watching golf. But usually we're out shopping or something. We alternate, though -- this year with lurker's family. That works well, since we don't usually go anywhere, and they don't care what's on TV. Plus, this year we're hosting, so football *will* be on. |

Utah @ BYU is going to be crazy this year. TCU will finish undefeated and get an at large invite.
The winner of the BYU - Utah game gets the Las Vegas bowl while the other gets the Poinsetta Bowl. The funny thing is, the Vegas Bowl does not want BYU for the 4th year straight, however they will take them because it's a guaranteed sell out for them. And depending on how the PAC 10 shakes out, both bowl games could be fun.

This is the least interested I've been in any college football season since liking sports. Not sure if this is the RedZone channel totaling consuming my Sundays (making Saturday important to get stuff done), the Phillies late playoff run, or just the unfortunate boring nature by which this college football season played out. I'm a little leery of the Longhorns game tomorrow. A&M has always played the Horns tough at home against their biggest rival. Even the mighty 2005 team struggled in the final game against A&M. The Aggies are 6-5. Their margin of victory in the 6 wins was 27 points. They lost the 5 games by an average of 30 points. I think Texas wins, but I wouldn't be surprised if the game is close.

Since Syracuse is apparently unstoppable when I'm present, I'm thinking about making the trip down to UConn on Saturday.

Despite the line opening as a pick 'em, it seems like a lot of WVU insiders think Pitt should win fairly easily. The consensus is that Pitt has more talent and depth almost everywhere. It's definitely true along both lines. Pitt has a great d-line, where WVU has talent but injuries have hurt. WVU's offensive line has been absolutely horrid, though.
You never know in a rivalry game, though. |

Wow, that is quiet the impressive stretch. We stay home for the weekend also, it is such a pain to go back for just a few days. I think this year is the first in about 25 or so that I won't go to at least one Rutgers game. |

Ill be attending the Arizona State-Arizona game!! Thats a big deal down here, supposedly the oldest consecutive rivalry in the nation since like 1893 or something.
And I wish I could attend Mizzou-Kansas, should be a great game!

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I haven't been super into college football before... I'll watch parts of games, and watched the entire Vince Young bowl game a few years ago... but I read somewhere about Troy Polamalu's cousin (Maika Polamalu) being ready to enter college.
Does anyone know where he can likely end up? Maybe following his career will get me into U.S. college football. |

Maika Polamalu is a 2011 recruit, so he's just a Jr. in High School this year. He must be fairly well regarded as he's already designated a 4-star recruit by Scout.com, and he already has an offer from Penn State.

The Pitt rivals site just did an article on Polamalu yesterday. It looks like he actually might be the 2nd highest regarded 2011 recruit on his team - athletic QB Terrell Chestnut already has offers from Pitt, Rutgers and WVU. Penn State is Polamalu's only D1 offer so far, and his dad played there, so it seems like they will be the team to beat. He did mention that he has been lax about sending his highlight tape out to schools, though, and it's really early, so I'm guessing he'll get a bunch of offers in the spring and summer.

He just got some coverage on the local news here, as well. I think the smart money is on him landing at Penn State, but if he wants to play the recruiting game to its fullest, he will probably end up with offers from most of the Big East, Big 10, and ACC schools.

Damn, no sooner do I post that ... 21-14 Texas, McCoy to Shipley for the 2nd time in the half.

McCoy led a National Title quality 1 minute offense there.

Giving up 532 yards to a mediocre offense like Texas A&M. Imagine what a good offense would do to it.

I'm not saying they are bad or anything as they are definitely in the upper half of the Big 12 offensively. I just don't think it's an offense that should be putting up those kind of numbers on a NC team. A&M exposed a lot of holes in that defense tonight. |

Using one game against Oklahoma is also misleading because Texas A&M has been a schizophrenic team - witness the blowout loss to K-State, blowout win over Texas Tech combo - and a night rivalry game against a team in line for the title game is pretty much a guarantee to have them playing close to their potential.
