As much as I'd like for the Phils to play the Yanks...my chances to get WS tickets would increase 3 fold if the Angels win.

Why, do you think Manning has money on the game, and will be throwing the ball away so he can go to the sideline and check out game updates?

Andy Pettitte outside of a Yankees uniform is __________. Brett Saberhagen? (I know he was a Met and had that quirky deal where he'd be good in even years and bad in odd or something reversed, I'm not going to look it up...)
But I was looking at his numbers, because the hype on him is that he's some big-game God of a post-season hurler. But isn't it more just that he came up with the Yanks, was on a good Houston team for a few years that made a World Series and then he went back and kept making the playoffs? I mean, his ERA is pretty high, he's never won a Cy Young (tips cap to Pat Hentgen) and he's only been an All-Star twice. I think he's a solid middle of the rotation guy in his prime, but...they talk about him like he's David Cone or something.

The way they have talked about the Yankees all series makes you think this is an all HoFer club. I mean this series could easily be 3-2 Angels instead of 3-2 Yankees.

A-Rod just adjusted himself, color me shocked there wasn't a curtain call for it.
Nothing agitates me more then all those fucking Yankee curtain calls. |

Kazmir with maybe the worst throw I've ever seen in the playoffs.

And Kazmir just got in line behind Kendrick.
This is fantastic to watch, though I suspect Rum coming on here later should this game end like this will be much better. |

Holy jinx Fox. First, they ran into the ground the idea that Rivera hadn't allowed a run at home for about 5 minutes before he came in. Then, they just flashed a graphic in the 8th showing game 1 of the World Series in NY on Fox Wednesday night.

Well, that sucked. FTR, I thought just about every mis-throw by the Tigers pitchers in the '06 World Series was worse than Kazmir's.
Still, damn, what a frustrating way to lose the series (not just this game, we gave away Games One and Two as well, particularly Gm 2). The Angels were one of the league's best defensive teams all year, and then they just completely suck in this series. It's mystifying. And, of course, we make the distinctly un-God-like Petitte look like he walked across the East River to get to Yankee Stadium today. When the Angels go crappy at the plate, they tend to do that. It was a good series for the Yanks. Like I said before, they make the plays they need to make, and that's why they win. P.S. While the 8th inning was ugly, the game was already lost, since we gave up all the runs the Yanks needed legitimately in the 4th.

So, game 4 of the World Series in 2005 was played today, October 26th. What in the hell happened over the past few seasons that game 1 doesn't even start until the 28th?

Pretty much. I'm probably the exception on this, as I don't really care. I never really hated the Phillies until the past couple seasons, mostly bc I've never really seen a heated rivalry between them. I used to hate the Yankees bc of all the $$$ they spend, but as I grew older and realized the business of baseball, I understood it's through no fault of their own. I'm leaning more towards the Yankees simply bc they are a NY team. |

I think the thought is that if they push the World Series into next year's spring training that the Mets would be relevant again in the post-season. |

Yeah, no mystery as to Phillies rotation: Game 1: Lee Game 2: Pedro Game 3: Hamels Game 4: Blanton Game 5: Lee Game 6: Pedro (or Happ if Pedro struggles in Game 2) Game 7: Hamels I sincerely doubt that Charlie will go for the three man rotation. Besides, my guess would be that because Blanton delivered for him last post-season in Game 4, might as well give the ball to him again. |

The bigger question (IMO), what do the Phillies do with the DH?
I'm hoping that Manuel will put Ibanez at DH and Francisco at LF. However, I think Charlie is way too attached to Dobbs to not put him in the lineup (even though Greg has done basically nothing for the past 13 months). Also, I wouldn't sleep on a Bruntlett sighting. That's a scary thought. Last edited by RedKingGold : 10-27-2009 at 10:10 AM. |

I have absolutely no problem rooting for the Phillies.
A) They won last year, dealing with the couple asshole Philly fans I know will be much easier this time. Plus I like a lot of Phillies fans. B) It will be much, much more satisfying to see the Yankees' drought (used relatively) continue. C) This isn't football, and it's not Yankees-Sox. I grew up watching the Braves dominate the division, and I still rooted for them over the Yankees in '96. |

Hoping the Yanks take this in 5, but it will probably go the full 7. Either way, should be an entertaining series with the two best teams in baseball.

See, I think he'll want to keep Stairs handy as a pinch-hitter if there's a situation where we're down late and we have a guy like Feliz/Ruiz/Francisco out there. But who knows. Also, does Myers make the post-season roster? I doubt it. I think the Phils are pretty much done with him. |

FUN & GAMES
The McCarver Drinking Game Here's how to play: Get a bottle of your favorite booze and a shot glass and... 1: Drink every time Tim uses a multi-syllable word incorrectly. 2: Drink every time Tim states the obvious like it is a profound insight. 3: Drink every time Tim calls the play wrong. 4: Drink every time Tim gets a player's name wrong. 5: Drink every time one of Tim's inane comments is met with stoney silence by the other broadcasters in the booth. My guarantee is you'll be drunk by the bottom of the 1st inning! |

I think this series will be pretty evenly matched. With that being said, I came across some fantastic journalism today from a sports writer in....Seattle. Yes, Seattle. Apparently in Seattle they know a lot about the Yankees and Phillies.
http://www.seattlepi.com/scorecard/m...ticleID=266800 Uh, when you mention this regarding Ryan Howard: Quote:
Why don't you mention that A-Rod also has this record? Quote:
Howard and A-Rod tie RBI record - Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees, Baseball Fucking journalism in this country is a joke. I have no problem with hyping up the Phillies, they are a good team, and Howard is a good player. Just make sure you mention everything, not just what is convenient for your obviously biased and idiotic article. |

Well, to be fair, Howard did hold the record by himself.
Seems to be quite an overreaction, especially when you consider that A-Rod is not clutch. Nervous?

I'm no Yankee fan, but I do think A-Rod gets the shaft a lot. I also think he got jobbed for the ALCS MVP, FWIW (that's a lot of acronyms there...).

The amount of mocking for a ridiculous opinion is directly proportional to the amount of defense of the ridiculous opinion.

It's a COLUMNIST putting together a column that's almost entirely built around Ryan Howard. He's not reporting a timeline of fact. To add to that line and say "by the way, A-Rod also tied that record the next day" would be completely out of place.
He brought up A-Rod in the context of showing how Howard has driven in a similar level of runs in much fewer games. Again, the column is about how good Howard is. The fact that you're using this as support for how "fucking journalism in this country is a joke" is laughable. Last edited by Logan : 10-27-2009 at 03:40 PM. |
