Pirates call up Jameson Taillon for his major league debut tomorrow. He was the second pick after Bryce Harper and taken right before Manny Machado

I'll give Ventura credit though. He did what he did knowing that he was leading off the next inning, against a pitcher he had previously hit two home runs off of the last time he faced him no less, so he was fully prepared to answer the bell.

Oh wait, that was the alleged dirtiest pitcher in baseball in one guy's mind, not the actual dirtiest pitcher in baseball in the minds of millions of fans, media, and hell his own teammates!

This comment by Ventura about Machado during post-game interviews was particularly rich. "Everybody knows what kind of player he is."

Just wow.

I notice Perez didn't exactly sprint out to help. Haven't seen a Royals update. The Royals have lost six in a row and have fallen 2.5 games back of the Indians.

I'm looking forward to this. I read somewhere that even if he pitches lights out he still could be sent back down afterwards. Interesting spot for the Pirates to put themselves in.

The reason why the Royals have considered trading Yordano Ventura - Yahoo Sports

Time for MLB to send a strong message to Ventura! Ventura with a 50 game suspension and Machado with a 0 game suspension.

My question is how does a pitcher with his fastball and that defense behind him have an ERA over 5.00? And how does he not figure out how to strikeout more hitters? Classic example of million dollar arm with a ten cent brain.

I'm a pretty huge Royals fan and I was glad to see Machado go after him. I gave Ventura the benefit of the doubt for a long time that he was just a super passionate guy and it worked for him, but I've been proven completely wrong.

What a waste though, tons of talent. Idiot.

Former Cubs/Brewers pitcher Ruben Quevedo passed away from a heart attack at age 37. I remember when the Brewers were at their lowest and this guy showed some flashes but had weight issues. Can't say I'm surprised that a heart attack did him in.

I would imagine most Royal fans were glad Manny went after this prick.

On another note how many people have told Chris Davis how stupid he looks with a monster chew in? Do like Rod Carew or Tony. Jesus Christ.

We really shouldnt be discussing the Royals anyway. At one point in the NFL thread a couple years back it was mentioned that it was a waste of time discussing teams that wont make the playoffs. Same year that the Chiefs just happened to come out of their years of not making the playoffs drought oddly enough

EDIT
Im mostly kidding, Royals have a great squad and will probably be in the playoffs. Just try to keep MBBF level headed at times.

LOL. How quickly we forget......

Manny Machado's Hothead Antics Go Too Far in Drama with A's | Bleacher Report

FWIW......Ventura wearing thin with the Royals fans has far less to do with his antics and far more to do with him pitching lousy when it's clear he has the talent to be far better. The 'million dollar arm, 10 cent brain' analogy earlier in the thread is pretty accurate. If he was pitching well, people would be far more willing to deal with the antics.

It's also a outlier from the personality of the rest of the team. It's clear his teammates are getting tired of it.

I'd be happy to be able to swing a bat like that at 53.

Since when did teams start carrying 13 pitchers on their active roster? seems excessive and risky w/regards to a lack of position players. Especially for AL teams.

Ventura gets a 9 game suspension, and Machado gets 4 games plus a $2,500 fine.

Just a bit of googling suggests that this started to become a thing back in 2012 or 2013, and has just kept trending that direction.

Eh, if anything I'd think the AL teams can handle it better as they rarely have to pinch hit for anybody.

Chicago releases Rollins, hitting .221 with 2 HR / 8 RBI

The Braves primary shortstop duo of Castro & Aybar have hit a combined with .183 with 0 HR and 10 RBI

Cardinals score 6 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 12th against the Pirates. It was started by a pinch hit 2 run double by Adam Wainwright.

Good stuff.

2nd loss to Braves this year, but any "best team of all time" conversation is just silly in June for a team that hasn't sniffed a World Series yet. And I'm as big a Cubs fan (and occasional homer) as you are likely to find on this forum.

Took my dad and father-in-law to the Royals/Cleveland game last night for an early Father's Day outing. Got to see another Royals comeback with Salvy's blast in the 8th inning. It's amazing how good this team is at home. Need to win a few more on the road.

Looks like the Rockies are going to cut ties with Jose Reyes now that his suspension for domestic violence has ended. They'll be eating over $40 million that is remaining on his contract.

Colorado Rockies designate Jose Reyes for assignment

Wow. Omar Infante designated for assignment. Not surprising that Whit Merrifield has won the 2nd base job given how well he's played, but surprised that Omar is out rather than being a backup.

Not a Rockies fan per se but it is very admirable they are cutting him and eating that 40 mill on principle due to his domestic violence case. Might not make baseball sense but makes me feel good to take my kids to the ballpark and spend money there now.

The other three guys the Rockies were minor league pitchers. Jeff Hoffman was the most promising of the bunch. He's currently in AAA.

Lemme see now, I guess the Braves will move to quickly sign Infante ... and then trade him to someone else in July.

Don't want to jinx it, but something special is happening so far through 7 innings in Oakland.

and the no hitter was lost on the first batter of the ninth when Mazara couldn't make the catch at the wall.

The skeptical side of me says they did it because Story is the future and they want him playing now and had no reason to keep Reyes over the fact that it was on principle over the domestic abuse case. If the Rox were contenders and Story wasnt hitting I think they would have kept Reyes around.

Infante released, yet currently 4th in the all star balloting. His negative WAR still getting more votes than 3.2 WAR Ian Kinsler.
