The real national championship game was played Oct. 7 in Gainesville. Florida 23, LSU 10. The best two teams in the country in the best conference in the country. Congratulations, Gators. See you in Baton Rouge next season. Oct. 6.

Cue the unbelievably cliched "Nobody gave us a chance" postgame championship interview.

Shoot, I thought Florida would win. This comment hurts my self-esteem.

Well, there weren't too many "football gurus" who gave the Gators any kind of a shot at all. In fact, all I heard was how it should have been USC in this game instead of Florida.

That is simply awesome.

Whoever this #1 is for UF that they're interviewing must have a laptop on the sidelines...

He said... "The SEC is just too fast for the Big 10"

Awesome.

The Big 12 won the BCS title last year, and look what it did for the conference this season...

A four-team playoff would've probably been more exciting. Hell, make it like American Idol and let the fans vote from 8 teams for the top 4. I mean, it's no different than letting pundits who haven't watched most of the teams play vote.

So does this mean that Boise State should be National Champs? No matter the argument, they are in fact the only I-A School with absolutely zero losses this Football Season.

Losing Ginn was a huge blow to the passing game but the game was lost on the defensive side with an awful gameplan. Florida played a great game so it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway.

The real problem was my flag was stolen after OSU beat Illinois on Saturday. The only game that flag lost was the OSU - UNC basketball game this year.

I just want out to point out that most of Florida's players were recruited by a Big Ten coach.

I would hope, at least to some degree, that they could claim a part of the MNC, and perhaps in one of the polls they will get a first place vote or two.

Great win for Boise State over Oklahoma, but no way they deserve a slice of the title this year.

It'd have to be the AP Poll, because after the game is final, the USA Today and Harris Polls automatically have Florida at #1, the voters can't change that due to the BCS contract.

Jon, I'm assuming that you are a UGA Follower, being from Athens and all. UGA beat Boise State last season... After seeing the Dawgs struggle this year and watching Boise beat Oklahoma, I don't think the result would've been the same this year. And this season is what matters.

As for Boise and a Title Mention, why not? They did absolutely everything they could.. Even tonight's winner, can't say that (thanks to Auburn).

Boise was ranked #9 in the AP, so it's unlikely they'd move all the way up. Unless someone was trying to make a statement.

Jesus. Maybe one of these days they'll wait until the entire season is actually over before announcing this, and other awards.

Guaranteed, if he only managed 6 Big Yards of O against say Illinois, he wouldn't have hoisted that trophy in NYC in December.

Well, no other teams that had soft schedules finished undefeated. If it was such an automatic, you'd think there would be a few more teams with 0 or 1 losses.

I can't decide if Troy Smith will be a poor mans Steve Young or Rich Gannon, or if he will be a rich man's Gino Torretta. (Is there such a thing? Well at least last I heard Gino is fairly rich from being a broker.) We shall see.

In all seriousness, Boise State beat Oklahoma, who if it weren't for a horrific call by a Pac 10 official, could well have been playing in tonight's game. I think they deserve to be called champions.

Jon's far from a UGA fan, and as much as I like the Boise story, they'd be no match for any one of the top five teams in the country--and no Oklahoma is not one of the top five teams in the country. Boise may have beaten Georgia this year, but Georgia was an SEC also-ran, losing four games in the conference.

Well, the counter to that is that they did what no one else in this game did.. Beat the opponent matched up with them each and every week of this season. Who it was they played in contrast to someone else is of course a valid argument, but BSU ended the season as the ONLY unbeaten team in I-A and thus deserves major props. They also took down a so called BCS Powerhouse Program come Bowl Time, don't forget.. It wasn't as if they only had to beat Ball State or someone to win the Fiesta Bowl.

Had the refs called the Oregon game correctly, Oklahoma probably would have been #3 in the BCS.

My apologies for the assumption...

This is example numero uno of why if I were the Czar of College Football, there would be a mandatory 24 or 32 Team Playoff. Period.. Even if Boise got their tails handed to them in say the Quarterfinals, at least they would be provided the opportunity to earn a National Championship.

Schedules are set 3-5 years in advance, before most of the current players were on the roster, so those players absolutely did everything they could this season.

If there wasn't a BCS system that is weighted towards the Big 6 conferences, my feeling is that Boise State would be regarded at the same level as the early 80's BYU teams from the WAC that won a National Title. No other non-BCS team is within 12 wins of them over the past 5 seasons.
