Yeah, I'm going to get rid of all my recruiting offers too and follow lordscarlet's strategy. I'll start my getting rid of the one on Randy Dexter, and I suggest you all follow suit. This seems like a fool-proof strategy.

Sure it is. I told Randy and his family about it over dinner on the school jet on our way to Chicago so he could play pickup with the Bulls. We all had a big laugh over it...reminded me of Doctor Evil and his henchmen in Austin Powers.

Randy prefers the warmth of the Coachella Valley, thank you.
Especially the warmth of the hot California women we put underneath him. |

Randy was ecstatic about coming to the University of Falls Church as well. I think he's planning to drive his new Porsche to our campus shortly.

Hmmm.... Dexter is Highly Positive for me and Jang down at Somewhat Interested. Do certain recruits have higher baseline interests in teams than others? And do we ever find out their secondary preferences as the recruiting weeks go by?

I don't need a PF, but I'm almost tempted to start recruiting Dexter anyway.

First win for NU! Granted, it was against an ironman lineup...

Blah, I lose to my hated rival LS...
I wish I had watched the pbp last game, I didn't realize my guys were all exhausted when they get pulled.. but it seems like they're exhausted even if they play 5 minutes?

It wasn't in the PBP last time. I have to check my endurance levels -- haven't watched the PBP yet. However, I'm very happy with this win. HRU's one-dimensional offense could not handle the Run-and-Shoot of our hometown Stars!

I'm having a difficult time deciding what offense to use when my SG and my C are clearly my best players. I've used the Inside Post the last two games and my C does very well, but my SG gets very little opportunity..
Hrmm..

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I ran Low Post the first game and my guards didn't shoot much. Ran Perimeter this game and my big men didn't shoot much. Might try Screen sometime soon to see if that's a good mix.

Same problem here. I'm running the low post since my PF and C are my best players, but I also have a good SF. My PF and C are taking 80% or more of the shots between them and my guards are hardly shooting. Oh yeah, we lost to S.U.C.K

This would be a total shift in what you're doing, but.. Could there be maybe a setting where you set your positions in order of preference for the offense to go through or something? Idano, thinking outloud.

You know...that might actually work better than you'd think. That's quite close to how the engine translates who gets the ball in the first place. |

The run and shoot appears to give looks to everyone but the center...

or maybe you can make it so that if you have Low Post, your C/PF are the ones who get the ball first. if nothing is there your PG or whomever else then will look for their shot. vice versa for Perimeter, where your guards will look to shoot first, if nothing's there or if they're double teamed they dump it into the post.

The problem really lies in just how much focus the "target" players are given in each offense. As it stands, it's just really, really likely that the key players will get the ball, that the other guys aren't getting enough looks. The math is really preventing things.

It's supposed to work like that. Obviously not as well as I'd like.
So, I can go about tweaking this 1 of 2 ways, and I'd like to gauge opinions. 1) Simply mess with the percentages in the code. I'm figuring with some tweaks to the numbers, this issue could be improved. 2) Add a new item to the lineups page that allows you to specify the percentage you want to focus on each position in the lineup. The offensive schemes would still be there, but they'd be less of an influence on who the offenses are passing the ball to and more of an influence on who should be taking shots. |

Does option 2 mean that if I run Low Post with the percentages leaning towards the guards, the bigs will shoot the most, but the guards will shoot more than once or twice?

option 2 is simple. we're not talking FOF2K7 screens here. if you could swing that it'd be awesome. but if you do option 2 does that mean if i set my SG to get the most percentage, then my crappy bench SG will also take as many shots? cuz if so, then maybe option 1 is best.

Okay, I made several changes to the percentages of both the Low Post and the Perimeter offenses. Spot checking some of the others, they appear to be working pretty closely to what I had intended (I reserve the right to pretend I never said that line).
In simplest terms, the players in the post on the low post offense are more apt to kick the ball back out for an open shot, and the guards in a perimeter offense are more likely to drop one inside if they don't have a shot. A few sims generated good numbers for both offenses, and got the non-focus players much more involved. |

I think this is a good step. My suggestion may potentially open up for too much skewing or complications.. idano.. Either way, I think if you can tweak the existing ones that may be fine.

Ok, this might not be very fun coding, but how about an actual play-by-play, where you click "next play" and it gives you a line by line read out. Or a staggered play-by-play, so every 3 seconds it shows another line of the game.

Yeah, the more I thought on that, the less I liked it, though I'd love to be able to do a "key on" switch per player in the future. |
