Sorry guys. I've come to the realization that I've burned out on writing. I sit in front of the computer to type and it's just not in me right now. The missions take a while to do, and I think the thesis wore me out. I need to recharge a bit. Three months of writing did me in.
I apologize for pulling people along for the past week or so, I really thought that we'd swing right back into action, but when I sit down to do the write-ups, I hit a wall. It's just torture trying to get me to write for an hour or so. Usually I have a blast writing them up, but now it is just work. I think we'll need to go on hold until I can recharge the batteries. We'll be back. Sorry for the delay. |

When are you going to present your thesis GB ? Usually, you also have to prepare slides and all that stuff for the formal presentation. That means more writing again...

Take your time, GB. We'll all still be here when you're ready to come back! And I know how you feel; I can't get myself motivated to start up my dynasty again either. I was aiming for an early June return to mark the 2-year anniversary of the BGC, but have yet to write a single word. And I didn't have a thesis tearing the life out of me for the last three months like you did... Don't worry. The aliens can wait for their destruction. We can too. |

Thanks for the understanding, guys. Sorry to disappoint, but hopefully it won't be a long wait.
Alf, thanks for asking. I just had my defense/orals earlier in the month. I think that is what finally did me in. It was the next day that I got sick, and the fun of writing kind of evaporated with the last push to get ready for the orals. I think part of the fun went with "having" to write for three months, and then feeling like I "had" to get back to this dynasty. Once "have to" gets in the picture, the fun seems to fade away. I'm sure the desire to write will come back. I really want to finish the dynasty, and see how everything turns out. Just need to take some time away from writing, and enjoy some other stuff for a while. |

I'll jump aboard the "can't find the inspiration" bandwagon. My Rutgers dynasty has been on hold ever since I switched computers. I've fired the game up like 5 times in the last month, but right now writing just feels more like a chore than fun. I'm sure everyone understands, G.B. Having a real life - it's not always easy to find hours of your time to spend writing up the results of video games. |

Ok, I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that I think it's time to continue on. The bad news is that there are other things that I want to do too, work/life is pretty busy as well, and doing the XCOM dynasty takes a lot of time when we were doing two/three missions per week. Between work, family, other games, books, walking the gerbils, etc., I don't think I can keep up that pace for more than a week or two. But... I really want to find out what happens (do we win? do we all die again?), I miss blowing things up, and I haven't killed a Blade family member in such a long time, so I'm thinking of restarting the dynasty, but at a much slower pace, basically one mission/week, posted every Sunday night. Of course, this is a very slow pace, but I think I can keep it up, and I'm thinking that such a pace might be better than the starting and stopping that's plagued this dynasty recently. I'm hoping that regular mission posting, although slow, will be able to keep everyone interested. So... One mission, posted every Sunday night, until we finish. I'll post the filler posts, stats, etc. during the week. The only caveat is that I just reformatted my drive (and took care to backup the XCOM saves), and have to reinstall and make sure that everything with our saved game is still ok. Shouldn't be a problem, but let's hope it all goes well. I'll be posting the set-up to the next mission in a couple of days (probably Friday), and our first mission back will be this Sunday night. Now let's see, where were we? Whose turn to die next? |
