I had one other high up on my list when I drafted. I'm interested to see where the person goes. |

I don't know much, but is Nap really up there with Alex and Genghis? Those guys introduced a different style of fighting and their rule far extended their lives. Nap seem to be the last great of an old-style of fighting. A style of which lost him Russia and Waterloo, not to mention Trafalgar. Now historically speaking great pick, definitely top 3 most known generals. I just think he is more well known for his loses than his wins |

I think Napoleon is clearly a top 3 in the Military category. Given the structure of the draft, I think it's a great pick. I think he introduced many innovations that last to this day (canning and his code of laws foremost among them) and is not just known for his losses.

3.10 Ramesses II - Ruler/Diplomat - Ancient Times
I had some other leaders on my board, but Ancient Times is getting thinner, and this is a strong one that is left. Definitely one of Egypt's most influential pharaohs. |

DOLA: That came off as more critical than I meant. I think she's a great pick and certainly one of the top woman in history.

And Ramesses was the other one I wrote up. Imo, the greatest ruler of the ancient times.

Yeah, I just went by the years listed for each category. She could only be considered renaissance based on that criteria.

I almost made a different pick, but I didn't figure there was any way in hell he was making it back around. Too good of a military man.

Apparently my Oprah pick wasn't too popular, but she was in my opinion the top candidate from the 2000-present era and a good choice for the cultural icon category. Perhaps not the ideal audience for her here, but she has had a huge influence on the world, on African Americans and on women.

There are at least two people better then Oprah if not three. It was a solid pick none the less.

I think Cultural Icon is a role for more recent people. In the past there wasn't the same ability to communicate and interact amongst cultures as there is now, but any cultural icon would have been more limited.

I have a question for the moderators:
IF the thing a person is credited with/known for spans a much loinger time than when they lived are we limited to the times they were alive or could we use them in any time that their creation existed? Edit: For example, someone already selected Walt Disney, could he have been used in the 2000-2008 category as well since his iconic creation still exists today?

yes but there are some things, like Disney in the example, that BECAME much larger cultural icons (in his case) long after he was dead. I don;t want to bring up other examples because we're still picking, but i wanted to get a clarification. |

Wasn't the purpose of picking a 'During the Day' moderator to have someone who was available to handle lists during the day when Chief isn't available?

Izulde's pick:
4.5 - Babe Ruth - Sports Figure - Pre-WWII 20th cent (1901-1939) The Sultan of Swat. The Great Bambino. Paunchy, popular, mythic. The man who, perhaps more than any other single individual in the history of the sport, changed baseball fundamentally and forever. He was more than a brilliant, game-altering player; he was oneof the first sport celebrities and his name echoes today as one of the great American cultural literacies. Heroes are always remembered. Legends never die. |
