woohoo, I called the NC State upset (points to the 1 thing I did right in a horrid bracket).

Well, my bracket is officially screwed with UConn going down but with Kansas out, I'm cheering for underdogs all the way now (not that I don't usually).

Another solid performance by a big East team I had in the final 4.

But, yeah, it's a great conference.

My brackets have all gone to hell in a handbasket in the last 18 hours, but I don't care anymore. I'm sure you can understand.

As for the debate about Herb, it's always going to be there. Even if he were to win the national title, he's got a portion of the fan base that's so turned against him, they would say the team won in spite of him (and there are a few who have openly rooted against State, hoping against hope that he would be dismissed with more losses...very sick bunch of people, really). I'm not sure he could ever win over those fans. Myself, I would have wanted him gone had the team lost yet another double-digit lead late. As it is, he's earned next year from me at this point. The mere fact that it is stressful to watch any game State plays because of the nature of the offense makes it tough to support him.

But, it's all water under the bridge anyway. I'm just enjoying something that I've waited literally half my life for, a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.

I'm impressed with Iowa State against UNC. They'll lose, but it's closer than it could be.

I have lost 9 sweet 16 and two elite 8 teams. I still have a shot with all of my final four, but things have to go perfectly form here on out.

Watching Dee Brown of Illinois yesterday, does he remind anyone else of a combination of Sam Cassell & Dana Barros? He plays at 1000 miles per hour and at least half the time that isnt a good thing. I used to liken Cassell to a chicken with its head cut off running around. Brown seems to be in the same situation.

Do the announcers not realize Shelden Williams always has at least 3 fouls at this point of every game?

Doesn't sound like it. Of course, the other bigs (limited though they may be) are rarely in this much foul trouble as well.

The game is turning into a home game for Miss. St. I don't think that's what the selection guys thought of when they gave Duke the number one seed and put them in Charlotte.

As I type this, Williams was just rejected by the rim and State took the lead.

I figured the Tech/Louisville game would be the one to watch this afternoon. This game and the Bucknell/Wisconsin are much more compelling so far.

Alas, GT/L'ville was at least slightly uglier than I expected. I feared it would be bad, but really didn't expect it to be that bad. I was figuring 14-16 points, but that was just pathetic.

Yes, the Cards are better than a #4 seed, but still. And yes, they had a dream start to the game, but still. Yes, GT had more nicks & bumps than their football team at midseason but still.

Elder was the invisible man, Schenscher was, what, 4 inches taller than anybody on the floor & had 2-3 rebounds, and most of the rest were interchangeably bad. It was like watching a train wreck, with the final score a lot more indicative than the state of the game when the lead was cut to 9 with the ball. Turnover+foul+bobbled rebound + loose ball to 'Ville+ a trey. And 9 became 14 and the rout was officially on.

An extremely disappointing season, an extremely disappointing team on the whole, a very hollow experience that did much to quench any optimism I had after last year's run. Next year could be ugly with so much experience lost, and within 2 years at this time I wouldn't be completely shocked if Hewitt was in some trouble.

I'm not wishing for it, because I believe these failures are more on these players than the coach, but I still wouldn't be surprised by it either. Ultimately, the coach has to do what it takes to get the attention of the players & get them pointed in the right direction. Although the ACC tournament was encouraging, what we saw today was too much like a lot of the regular season.

I'm disappointd Tech couldn't put together a better performance, they had so many chandes early in the 2nd half to make a game of it, but Louisville is good, certainly my(and probably most...) pick out of the reamining teams in the bracket to make the final four.

Hey Wolfpack, how does a UNC/NC State Elite 8 strike you?

After watching Louisville and Washington play to this point, their matchup should probably be in the final four as I think Illinois, UNC, Washington and Louisville are the four best teams left. That game should be a great one to watch.

Like a great chance for the State board to implode in a losing situation (Herb can't beat Carolina! Herb sucks! Fire Herb!).

Seriously, I don't know what to think. I'm just getting myself ready for the upcoming brawl (and I don't think that's a loose adjective) with Wisconsin on Friday. I do think we are lucky that Bucknell took out KU, thus leaving us with the choice of either a team we don't mind a grinding game with since we do it ourselves or a cinderella who was bound to strike midnight at some point. I actually think a State-Carolina regional final would be wild, and would be especially infuriating to the natives in Syracuse. Double bonus.

In the end, though, Carolina should win the region regardless. The other three teams in the bracket left don't have the horses to compete. Roy should put Herb on his Christmas list for taking out UConn for him.

NC State - Wisconsin, quite the barnburner

What's the over-under on total first half possesions? 15?

Well I think the shot clock will force us to have about 35 possessions at a minimum, so I'll take the over on that bet.

Are you confusing Williams with Randolph?

(Er, I don't see a ton of Duke games, but it seems like every game I see, Randolph picks up some cheap fouls and is in trouble in the 2nd half. Williams usually picks some up too, but not as badly as Randolph.)

It's probably because you can count the number of national media people that have seen them play more than once (prior to NCAAs) on one hand.

Because I have an amazingly annoying co-worker who thinks GTech's shit don't stink, let me apologize to the GTech backers here when I do this:

WOOOOO! That's right Louisville! You kick the crap out of that overrated Yellowjackets team!

Sorry... you can continue now .

When a team is up 7 with 7:40 to go in the half and ends the half down 12 they have serious problems.

Louisville looks like half the team should be in the NBA.
