Sorry, doesn't fly with me. Except for the conference championship games, few of the previous matchesare elimination games. And no rematches are guaranteed. You can get all unique matches in a playoff system, too (just because it doesn't work out all unique one year, doesn't mean it won't work out that way every year).

I don't see how VT can get the bid over LSU for the title game, considering LSU took VT behind the shed earlier this year and beat them to death.

OU gets the automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl this year.

MO or KU? MO should get the 2nd BIG XII BCS bid since they beat KU last weekend, but I bet KU gets it instead.

LOL, how is June Jones undefeated season looking now?

Like a number of coaches I've heard in the past, he strongly believes that making the season any longer simply isn't feasible for the players at this level.

And I think there's a lot of reality in that point of view. I mean I spent the afternoon watching LSU playing a backup QB versus Tennessee with only one regular RB healthy enough to play.

Roll the regular season back to 10 games, eliminate the conference title games, and then maybe you eliminate that argument ... but if you do the math then you know they aren't going to eliminate over 100 regular season games + conference championships in order to add a playoff for 8 teams.

Pete Carroll is in favor of a playoff. I have heard of a number of coaches in favor of it. Tommy Tuberville, anyone? Your throw out one name as proof of coaches not wanting a playoff lacks validity.

I doubt you could find eight coaches in the Top 25 in favor of the BCS.

Stick with the 12-team, eliminate the conference champ game. Or go to 11, and keep the conference champs. They played 11 games for a long time.

So they have the same number of losses, and LSU stomped VT. Both of LSU's losses were in triple overtime as well. Why would VT jump them?

The way Virgina Tech has been playing I think they could beat LSU if given a chance at a rematch...just saying.

VT doesn't have to jump LSU...we're already ahead of them in the BCS.

Not sure what your point is. Both were overtime losses (3 each). VT has two losses as well, including a blowout at LSU. I just don't know how you can consider Virginia Tech more deserving over LSU when LSU beat Virginia Tech.

The real problem with Virginia Tech is that they are a 2-loss team from, at best, the fourth best conference in the country. If you're going to be a 2-loss team, you need to be in either the SEC or the Pac10 (this year).

Depends on what your judging it by... best team or best season? Virgina Tech outside of the lost to Boston College which by the way they avenged, has been dominating on defense.

Well, what we haven't done is lose to an unranked team.

*For the record, I think LSU should get the nod, but I don't think VT is trash just because of one game three months ago where we played a true freshman at QB in the most hostile environment in college football.

I think LSU will jump VT in the BCS rankings this year due to the polling.

The coaches poll will narrow that difference this week.

Suggesting an 11-game regular season for college football is about as realistic as suggesting 53 man rosters for college football.

Well it would not be the first time that a team went to the title game over a team that they lost to in the regular season. Remember 2000-2001

From Wiki

Quote:
One-loss Florida State was chosen to play undefeated Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl for the national championship, despite their one loss coming to another one loss team, the Miami Hurricanes, that was ranked #2 in both human polls. Adding to the confusion, Miami's one loss came to yet another one loss team, the 10-1 Washington Huskies, leaving three teams with a legitimate claim to play Oklahoma in the National Championship game.

One way to see how the computer polls may go is to go to http://www.colleyrankings.com/ ...it's one of the six official BCS computer rankings and the web interface allows users to input 'what if' scenarios. At the start of the day, the rankings were:

1. WVU
2. Mizzou
3. Ohio State
4. Georgia
5. LSU
6. BC
7. VT
8. Florida
9. Arizona State
10. Kansas

After putting in the WVU, VT, Missouri, USC & LSU games, the top 10 is:

1. LSU
2. VT
3. Ohio State
4. Georgia
5. Mizzou
6. Oklahoma
7. Florida
8. WVU
9. Arizona State
10. BC

Looks good for LSU's chances if the same results are mirrored with the other CPU polls.

I "threw out one name" because it was one that had top of mind since I just heard the freakin' interview in the past 48 hours. Gosh, I'm just fucking impressed beyond words that you upped the ante with two names

But I'll see your Carroll & Tuberville and raise you Rich Rodriguez, Bob Stoops, and Tommy Bowden. And while outside the top 25 I originally mentioned, we could throw Kirk Ferentz, Bobby Bowden, or even Bobby Petrino & Bill Callahan in there just for good measure. And that's with less than five minutes of looking for quotes.

And I tell you because you're the one arguing. If you don't want an argument, stay out of the argument.

How did that review not result in a Washington TD? Moot point since they scored on the next play, but geez.

Well, considering this latest round of massive stadium expansions are due to a loophole allowing contributions to an university athletic department to be tax-deductible, just maybe.

And finally the Nintendo game starts to heat up as expected.

Wow, JiMGa is pissed off. Must be a better than average chance of Herschel Walker U. playing for a national title.

haha...what's this "football" he speaks of? Must be something they only play east of the Mississippi and south of the Mason-Dixon line. I would type more, but I heard there's a sale on lufas at Macy's and I gotta get one and a mocha latte from Starbucks, so I gotta go.

Imagine what'll happen when Bobby retires?

I'd say it's still 60-40 against, but that's too close for comfort.

Meanwhile, I've just grown incredibly weary of listening to people who don't have a fucking clue try to pretend they know what they're talking about.

edit to add: Seriously, this whining by people who really don't fucking matter -- and when it comes to making decisions about college football that's every damned one of us here -- has gotten beyond absurd. It's a business. And the business decision has been made to have the system we have.
I preferred the previous bowl system when the BCS was introduced, and pretty much still do (although I don't think the BCS is quite as bad as I thought it might be). All this hand wringing over something that ultimately doesn't matter one bit combined with the ridiculously impossible suggestions that are made ad nauseum, it's just f'n tedious.

Hell people, why not lobby so hard for this tournament to be played on Neptune, because if you're going to be silly why hold back?
