I'm up 90-25 but still think I'm the underdog to win my game this week. I only have Hill and Fitzgerald left while he still has Cutler, Gore, Steve Smith, Cotchery, and Tony Gonzalez left.

Well, this is feeling oddly familiar:

Front Office Football Central - View Single Post - The FOFC Keeper League - 2007 Season

My ridiculously consistent WR combo of Fitz and White only got me 11 today, well below their average of 26

The only way I win this week is if Westbrook explodes for 30+ like the last 2 weeks and McNabb is hurt early on (or just has an awful game but I can't see him getting 0 while Westbrook gets 30)

And how about the stones on Siddiqui not playing an RB and still making the finals

Oops!!!

Glad that didn't hurt me!

I made a waiver pick up (Rhodes, who got 23 points today!!) and guess I forgot to put him in the right slot!

Though, on second thought, I wonder if I'm disqualified for not playing a valid lineup?

According to FleaFlicker help:

Quote:
Owners will never be allowed to violate a roster maximum, but it is possible to temporarily dip below the minimum requirements (e.g., when trading away more players than you receive). When you go bellow the minimum at a certain position, your roster is illegal. Some leagues enforce roster minimums and teams below a roster minimum will be unable to add players at other positions.

So, it's illegal, and I wonder if the only penalty is unable to add players at other positions... and not just invalidate my score.

Ok, a couple of thoughts for next year rule change ideas.

I'd still love to see 2 QBs, and that's coming from a guy who cobbled together lineups with Edwards, Hill, Flacco, and Schaub all year after Brady went down in quarter 1 of the season. But I know we voted that down and you really have to have 10 teams or less to do that.

So, onto a couple of new suggestions:

1) A player can only be held for 3 years (we'd start the timer next year so people who have had the same players for years don't get hosed). That way someone doesn't have Peterson or Manning or something for their entire career. It also introduces some better talent into the pool each year. I love having Fitzgerald on my team- I don't think I'll have to get another WR for a long time, barring injury. However, keeper leagues should reward continuously good drafting, not one good draft or one good pick- you should have to keep replenishing your talent.

2) Also, there would be one decision that had to be made on that- if there is a trade, say, in the 3rd season, does a player's counter reset? Is it that he will have been held by a different team or is it like a rent-a-player in baseball where you just get him for that season and then it's back into the pool? And, with rookies does that rookie keeper season count towards this?

3) Defenses suck in this league. Only the top 12 get 100 points and there's not much delineation between good defense and bad ones. I mean, really, we're about to have a pair of 400 point QBs most likely so who cares about 120 point defenses? So, between them not being a keeper and bad scoring, they're not worth much. Give them more for fumbles, safetys, picks, etc. And spread out the scale for points allowed: only 6 for a shutout? A crap receiver or running back gets that for a garbage TD and that's worth more than Pittsburgh's great D this season in a lot of games. Give something like 15 for a shutout, 10 for 1-7, etc, and give negative points if you start giving up more than, say, 24 or 28 so that having a bad defense can hurt.

4) Frankly, kickers are the same way. More points for kickers.

5) And then a couple of minor tweaks: tone down QBs slightly, bump up WRs slightly. Top RBs are going for 250+ (262-190 for 1-10), WRs in the 200 (202-153) range, while the top 10 QBs are 254-399. I like QBs being the highest scoring by a healthy margin if we're going to only go with 1 per team because there is no scarcity at all but a good QB performance can negate 2 good RB or WR performances.

Or, hell, just get rid of D and K like we did with TEs- every time someone asks me which brick handed TE they should get off the WW, hoping to get a lucky free TD that week, makes me glad we don't use them. The only way TEs are worth anything, and I haven't seen this in a league yet, are if there were some way to get them WR points but then apply a 1.5x multiplier to them. But I'd rather keep D and K and adjust them up.

Also, dumb question- there are no trades in the offseason, right (to jockey for the keepers at different positions, that sort of thing)?

Just skimmed your opinions right now, but I agree with the defenses. Just based on other leagues I'm in, defenses are ranked weirdly in this league.

I'd like to get rid of the 5 through 8 playoff bracket. It really seems like that group doesn't have anything to play for. I'd like to see the top six in the championship bracket and the bottom six in the rookie bowl. The top two teams in each bracket receive a bye in the first round. Of course, I could be talking out of my ass if the new site doesn't offer this setup.

For one, the snow in NE has totally destroyed any value Kurt Warner has today .

What's scary is that you have 2 good rookie keepers. Myself, I have a pair of mediocre ones but at least it's better than nothing. Hell, I just picked up one of them in the last week or two.

Well, I read that as we get only one extra "rookie keeper" ("an additional keeper" at any position of our choosing). Which is ok with me, because I really don't have any RBs worthy of being a keeper aside from Forte.

My biggest problem is going to be wide reciever, in deciding between Andre Johnson and Randy Moss.

Happy to have Stewart as my rookie keeper but the tricky thing is do I keep his runningmate or Turner as my keeper RB??? Likely Turner but still...

Yeah, my QB keeper is solid, but my WR is gonna be fun. I think Wes Welker is the leading candidate haha.

You can have Roddy White if I can have your QB (I just don't know what to make of my QB situation for next year)

I think the deadline is prior like a month prior to next season.

My prelim keepers (could change in case of injury or whatnot)

QB: Roethlisburger, Pittsburgh
RB: Forte, Chicago
WR: Johnson, Houston
Rookie: Ryan, Atlanta

Just so it's somewhere...

2009 Draft Order

1. Sal's Trangenders
2. All on Black
3. Lathum's Brew Crew
4. The Original Trilogy
5. Gridiron Warriors
6. Callous Dowboys
7. The FOFC All-Stars
8. South Side Roughnecks
9. Vic's Heroes
10. Houston Hippopotami
11. Siddiqui Sillymen
12. Shaka's Big Shooters

The keeper due date will depend on where we draft. If we draft on the message board, we will need to start earlier than normal. I'll come up with a schedule soon, but wouldn't expect anything important for a good long while.

The biggest issue now would be any changes to the current rules. I know SI already touched on what he'd like to see... what does everyone else think?

TLK, why does Fleaflicker show that I have the "6th overall pick in 2009" when your list has me picking 7th?

The site can't be modified to fit our system, but the way the draft order is determined can be found in this post.

Quote:

Playoffs
There are 3 brackets of Playoffs that will be used to determine Draft order selection for the next year:

Superbowl: Top team from each division (determined by record/head to head/division record/point total) and (2) Wild Card teams determined by best overall record. – None of these teams are eligible for the other brackets. The Team with the best record (head to head/point total) will play the Wild Card team with the worst record in the 1st round. The other two teams will play against one another (2nd division leader against other wild card. The winners of the 1st round play for the Iberbowl; the losers play for the 9th pick order of the draft, the loser of that game gets the 10th pick order. The loser of the Suberbowl gets the 11th pick order, while the SuperBowl champion gets the championship and the 12th pick order of the next year’s draft.

RookieBowl: Bottom team from each division (determined by record/head to head/ division record/point total) and (1) Kill Card team determined by Total points (then head to head/record). – The team with the worst record (head to head/point total) will play the Kill Card team in the 1st round. The Winners of the 1st round will play each other in the 2nd round to determine the winner of the RookieBowl– the Winner will have the 1st draft pick order, while the loser will receive the 2nd draft pick order. The Losers in the 1st round will play each other in the 2nd round, the winner will get the 3rd draft pick order, while the loser will get the 4th draft pick order for next years draft.

PrideBowl: The Final 4 teams will play for the PrideBowl championship (the 5th draft pick order). The teams will be matched up by having the team with the best record (head to head/point total) play the team with the worst record. The Winners of the 1st round will play each other in the 2nd round to determine the winner of the PrideBowl– the Winner will have the 5th draft pick order, while the loser will receive the 6th draft pick order. The Losers in the 1st round will play each other in the 2nd round, the winner will get the 7th draft pick order, while the loser will get the 8th draft pick order for next years draft.

I apologize for the confusion. I did not consider the possibility that the Fleaflicker site did not match our custom configuration exactly.

I haven't really thought about it since the end of last season, but I did have a pretty long post on it above:
Front Office Football Central - View Single Post - The FOFC Keeper League - 2008 Season

I'm definitely for returning, tho

Tentative Schedule:

July 27th - Owners Meeting. All league issues put to a vote through PM.

August 3rd - All keepers are due, leaving seven days before the draft to set a preference list. Remember, we have four keepers this year (QB/RB/WR/Last season rookie)

August 10th - Draft starts with a 12 hour limit per pick. The draft clock will be active from 10:00 AM EST until 12:00 AM EST. I'm thinking we will setup a dummy league at Sportsline, so we can use their extended draft feature. It has it bugs but I'd rather run it there than over the message board.

August 20th - Draft continues with normal draft rules. Two hours per pick with the clock active from 10:00 AM EST until 12:00 AM EST. You are encouraged to setup a draft list as the Sportsline "robot" tends to favor QB's.

I will be out of town starting this Friday through the 28th so I won't be checking FOFC that much. Could you PM all of us when it's time to vote so I don't miss out?

What are our "official" keeper rules right now? I know we added a rookie keeper thing last year, and I noticed that the post that SI first linked has something about him suggested a different way of doing it. I'd like to throw my two cents into that too. Instead of a three-year period, the league that I run has 2 keepers that you keep. The catch: you cannot keep the same two keepers twice. So if you keep player A and player B this year, you can only keep one of them next year; your other keeper would have to be different. With three keepers, there could be a way to fit the three-year rule in there too. Just an idea.
