Phew. As I was reading there I got worried that we'd have been waiting for me. I left work at 10 PM Eastern thinking I was safe, and just checked the thread when I woke up and suddenly was worried. Picks are comings shortly.

A bit of a stretch here, but this era seems to be the hardest, by far, to think of quality picks. I really debated what category to put him in, but after thinking it over I think I have the right category for him.

2.12 Hammurabi - Intellectual (Ancient Times)
The idea of rule of law, rather than rule of men, started with Hammurabai and his code of laws. Believed to be the first code of laws written in a language that the average man could read (if the average man could have read that is). Barbaric by our standards today, it was clearly a great step towards what we think of as modern governance.

Nice work last night!

So BK is still on the clock with 3.1...

edit - sorry BK, didn't notice you'd just made your pick, thought it was from last night

Good, looks like Barkeep, Spleen, and I are all here right now. Hopefully that means we'll be able to get this thing rolling.

I'm trying to make a concious effort not to make my picks Euro/American centric and I think both 2.12 and this pick help here, not to mention I feel that this one is a top person in a harder time period, as well as being a top pick in his category:

3.1 Ghenghis Khan - Millitary Leader (Middle Ages)
Some have said "Never get involved in a land war in Asia". Well, this man not only got involved in one, he actually managed to conquer just about all of Asia at the same time. Using tactics which could be considered genocidal, his military prowess is hard to deny.

3.2 Tutankhamun - Ruler/Diplomatic Leader (Ancient Times)

This is an iffy pick, but my brain screwed up Ancient and Classical Times. So, I need a pick for Ancient Times.

3.3 Homer (Ancient Times) - Scribe

I had to clear this pick with Chief first since his existence has been questioned. However, someone began passing on epic poems of The Odyssey and lliad and I'm taking the person who's been attributed to doing so. I would have rather taken a few other people with this pick, but I couldn't even find hardly anyone from this era so Homer became an easy choice. Kudos to anyone who can.

Yeah I was having a helluva time finding someone for the ancient era. There were lots of religion throughout the history but this way I kill 2 tough choices with one pick.

Looks like there might be a run on ancient times people right now. 4 out of the last 6 picks have come from that era.

Another excellent pick and one I'd considered for further on down the line.

I have a question are we trying to get people who aren't the normal choices or are we just trying to put together the best draft based on notoriety? I am just wondering because I have a few names in mind whose names are not well known but their impact is very significant.

I know we're playing for fun but I am just wondering...

Damn, most all of the people on my list are gone. I had Abraham, Mozart, Micheangelo, Disney, Caesar, Genghis and Homer and they are all gone. Nice work.

Ah, The Izulde Strategy.

Remember, our lists will go up for vote by the general FOFC population. In previous drafts, those that went obscure faired very poorly in the voting and the drafter just ended up coping out by saying that he did it for personal reasons. I believe, since we all following sports, that this is a competition and the general FOFC population are the judges.

olie, I am home for the next 10 days so no need to email me at work.

There are a couple of big names left but I got to fill in Ancient Time before I'm stuck picking some court musician to the Babylonians: - SCRATCH THAT - after writing something up and changed my mind (think I'll get an ancient next time). Sorry for the delay.

3.7 Napoleon Bonaparte - 1800s, Military

Looking at the picks that have taken place, the person I was going to take #1 and #2 hasn't been taken. This tells me they weren't worth a #1 or #2 pick. Thank the maker I didn't pick them.

Great pick. I was wondering when he was going to get drafted especially with Alexander the Great going 2nd overall.

3.8 - Martin Luther King, Jr. - Historical Good Person (1960s-1970s

He had a dream, a dream of racial equality and the elimination of prejudice that still resonates strongly today, even if his dream has yet to be fully realized. A dynamic orator, a champion against poverty, the '60s were the peak of his fame and influence and the most widely known part of his legacy until his untimely assassination in 1968.

A holiday today in his honor, one of the youngest people ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize (1964), his vision stands a goal to still be strived for and his message of peace, hope and the end of racial discord and poverty serves as inspiration to millions the world over, even decades after his death.

Thanks. He's typically listed in the top 3 of all time along with Alexander and Genghis, but there are many opinions. I actually wrote up two entries but had overlooked Napoleon since my Military column is rather busy and the fact he wasn't standing on a chair to stand out.

Thanks.

I might actually do fairly well this time, since you of all people is liking my draft.

Though admittedly, Ancient is going to be a nasty time period now, with most of the heavyweights out of the picture, but I still have a few names, I think.
