You have the Big East listed 2nd at 4-2... shouldn't they be listed 3rd or 4th behind the big 10 as well as the ACC? The Big East was undisputedly the deepest conference this year, but, many doubted that they had any teams capable of winning a national title and only a couple that can seriously advance deep in the tourney. Of the teams in the tourney, Syracuse was thought to have the best shot IMO. And now they are gone. UConn benefits from the Kansas loss, so we'll see how they do, and Boston College wasn't winning convincingly when they were 20-0, then went 4-4 to finish out the season, I don't think much is expected from them. So the big east is deep, lots of good teams, but I'm going to go ahead and predict 0 final four teams and only 1 elite 8 team coming out of the Big East. So am I a stupid bigoted schmuck too? |

Unfortunately the Big 10 is only 3-2, but all three have a decent chance to advance to the sweet sixteen.

Are we still allowed to root for the Zags like we did in the old days? They're a top seed now, so its not like when they lead they're the plucky underdogs... I guess my dislike of Knight covers me for now.

I was born and (mostly) raised in Spokane, and since I never went to college I cheer for the hometown school (my sister went there for 1 year to give me more of a connection ). I will also cheer on Washington now, although I have always leaned a little more towards WSU between those two. Quote:
He missed a bunch eh? Oh well, maybe next year. That is two years of disappointing losses in the second round. Last years to Nevada was a little worse then this but this still should have been won. I just hope Gonzaga's run doesn't end before they can get back to nother Sweet 16 or even Elite 8.

I think the Zags have learned over recent years that it's definitely not easy being the hunted, taking the best shot of the opponent every game, rather than giving it when they were just the feisty underdogs from the West Coast Conference. Their rise, however, has benefitted that conference as I'm pretty sure until recently, they were just a one-bid league, but now they seem to get at least one or two at-larges per year, which puts them basically on the same footing with the MVC (another mid-major that has benefitted from deep tournament runs by members over recent years), but still a long way down from even C-USA which is generally considered the seventh member of the big conferences (after the six BCS leagues). Of course, with the radical changes set to hit C-USA next year, that distance will shrink considerably, IMO.
At any rate, Gonzaga is definitely established as king of its particular hill and I don't see them diminishing any time soon, though the resurgence of Washington may start cutting into their local base a bit. |

did Utah change their nickname to the Running Utes? Why the fuck are the announcers calling them that all the time? It's not like they're UNLV.

Looks like it's up to Oklahoma State to carry the Big 12 banner the rest of the way.

[ahem]UW-Milwaukee 83, Boston College 75[/ahem] I wouldn't have paid much attention to this game otherwise, but your obnoxious post changed that in a hurry. Oh yeah, Washington cruised past Pacific to reach the Sweet 16 and Arizona is doing the same thing to Alabama-Birmingham. Will the Big East have 2 teams in the Sweet 16? |

I found it funny listening to the announcers in the Arizona game. They were speaking like Arizona didn't want to get into an uptempo game and, when Arizona was up 9 in the first half, they kept saying "This is exactly the type of game UAB wants".
I couldn't help but snicker as it was like Briar Rabbit and the briar patch. Not only did Arizona average 2 points a game more than UAB, the Wildcats had 10 90+ games in the season. |

If you have 1.6 seconds and have the full length of the court to go, why do you inbounds the ball anywhere before half court? That was a bad decison.

Man, what a game. That's one game where I am glad I wasn't rooting for either team as I could really just enjoy the play of both teams.
That said, my pick of Washington is looking a lot better with both the Zags and Wake falling today. |

Games like that are the reason why the tournament is the greatest sporting event in the world. ( but if I have to hear the announcers say one more time that it's a shame one of these teams has to lose I am gonna puke)

UW is going to be very good next year because they have one of the best recruiting classes in the nation coming in. It will be interesting to see who sticks around for them (either way, they're going to be very good). Gonzaga signed one of their better recruiting classes (including a 6'10" junior college player that averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 blocks per game as a freshman last season) and red shirted a PF/C type this year that I saw play 15-20 times in high school (one game that I was there Roy Williams was in attendance). This was supposed to be a down year since they have all those underclassmen, so they should be improved, even with losing Turiaf (I hate talking about next year already. I wish Raivio would have played better, but this season far surpassed expectations.). |

Bleh, hell of a game. Looked like we had it lost midway through the second half but then made a great run to tie it up. Just couldn't ever get the ball to drop when we needed it to, plus silly mistakes (Gio St Amant chasing after the ball that was going to be over-and-back, etc) and the complete disappearance of Jason Williams killed us in the end. Bogut was the real deal, but he was getting some serious calls in his favor. The one that stands out the most in my head was when he and Will Kimble were fighting for a rebound and Bogut almost tore off Kimble's head. However, it was Kimble who got called for the foul. Utter bullshit. However, we had the ball where we wanted it in the end, in Fili Rivera's hands. However, the Utah defense made a great play when they had to to secure the win. Great win for them. I still believe that we beat them more times than not when playing them on a neutral court. Thanks for being a Miner, Fili and OT! We're going to miss you guys next year...

Damn, good games last night in Cin/UK, and then WF/WV, too bad I had both the other outcomes of what really happened however.

Hey, WVU guy. I tuned in after the UK/UC game to notice Pittsnogle on the bench, figured he fouled out. Then he enters the game in the 2nd OT with 2 fouls. So what gives?

Hey, we overachieved this season...nobody expected us to be regular season Big XII champs. We got screwed being shipped out to Tucson instead of Oklahoma City, but it's all right. Next year we only lose two reserves and add Nate Carter, an All-Big West transfer from CS-Fullerton. We're looking pretty good for next season. |
