And yes, this is why I love drafts.

Lead characters don't leave the show.

Although Happy Days is probably a bad example to use since the show really was split into 2 parts where Ritchie was the 'lead' and then Fonzie....

All I know is that I'm glad Lathum made the pick and not me.

Another non-family pick. I guess I'm seeing this draft much differently than others.

No.

Definitely 2 schools of thought on this draft. One where people are taking from sitcoms that are family based and one where people are taking from all sitcoms to make a family.

Dick Solomon, 3rd Rock from the Sun 1996 : Father

John Lithgow plays the commander of an alien survey team. While not actual relatives they take on the roles of a typical american family and the hilarity ensues. Lithgow is a comic genius and plays the campy Commander dorkmobile to the hilt.

that was my interpretation.

As for the fielding pick, I think it could have been gotten much, much later.

Take Dick Solomon, I'll delete the first one. it should be family/based shows in my opinion.

I understand both positions but I actually think it should be family specific shows so thats the way my pick should have gone. For myself laarroquette shouldn;t have been an option. Sorry.

I think it's the latter, but anyone who just picks some favorite characters are crams them into various family spots is probably going to be disappointed with the voting.

You can choose Tony Soprano as the "best friend" or the "brother" because you think he's a cool character to have around, but if people don't associate him with that role then you're going to finish towards the bottom of the pack.

Wow, 3rd Rock from Sun as the #3 Dad, #9 overall? I would think that this pick would have been around many rounds later.

Probably but I just didn't like a lot of the other dad's. Cosby was #1 and after him they all pretty much suck. SO I took Lithgow because he's freakin awesome.

Some great picks today. Homer and Alex P. would have been at the top of my list. George and John Lithgow are headscratchers (I would say Seinfeld was an ANTI-family comedy, IMO and 3rd Rock is 2nd or 3rd tier in television history). That's why we vote, though, isn't it

Keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen. I have been jonesing for this since the literature draft.

Well there is something to be said for the "family of who's there". I mean at some people's workplace they consider everyone family. Single people consider many people family that aren't.

So I understand the interpretation entirely.

I think by the end of the draft we'll see how many real true "family" picks were possible, and we'll vote appropriately.

I'm actually tihnking people will be hard pressed to find 12 of some of these categories that are actually "family" based sitcoms. This thing is not as simple as it may seem =)

Even if that were true, which I don't think it is, it doesn't excuse drafting from 3rd Rock from the Sun in the first round.

Isn't that the point?

It's like the people at my work that want an 8 person (rather than 14) fantasy league so that they can have a stacked team. These drafts are fun because they can be so hard. Adding in all the restrictions that eliminate people (such as a show being gone if you pick a character) is all part of strategizing and picking the best team based on the rules.

This is the exact wording from the esteemed Dr.'s first post:

We've done one pick in six hours.

If people can't bother to pick and/or send a list in round one, what will they do in round nine?
