Oswalt just won his fourth game of the season. Astros are looking too good to be true right about now.

Ugh, terrible umpiring in the Giants-Rockies game. After Morris beans two in the first and gets tossed (along with Alou and Righetti [pitching coach]), you'd figure the umps are on zero tolerance. But no, the Rockies' starter hits one in the sixth and gets to stay in the game.
Coupled with the intentional hit on Vizquel last night, this crew needs to be given a lesson on when to exercise discretionary judgement. Edit: Damn, that's just what we need (Durham) Last edited by Brillig : 04-23-2006 at 03:42 PM. |

Maddux shut down the Cards today to go to 4-0 and get his ERA under 1. He just is not making any mistakes right now. Obviously, it won't continue, but it is great to see him come through in big games like this.

Detroit is up early over Seattle, 2-0. Most fun I have had being a Tiger fan in a decade(or two).

Is 4-0 the best record for starters right now? I know Oswalt and Maddux have that record, who else?

The showed clips of Omar signing his book before the game. Mesa probably heard about it. Hell, he hit the guy in the back, clearly intentional. Wasn't ejected or anything, but it lead to several beanings the next day, including Omar (who was pinch hitting), by lefty Ray King.
I'm surprised MLB hasn't suspended or fined Mesa for it. |

I'm an Indians fan and remember reading about the Vizquel/Mesa thing in the linked article. So what happened, Mesa finally got his chance and plunked Omar?

Mesa has hit Omar twice so far, plus one more in spring training. The Rockies and the Giants meet fifteen more times this season, so this isn't going away...

well, the Mets are being no-hit through 5 so far.
This one I just don't understand. Man on 1st, 1st inning, they IBB Bonds, Alou then burns them with a 3 run bomb. Can't figure out why teams are still walking this guy intentionally. I would wait for Bonds himself to burn me then say to myself "ok, guess we gotta start walking him again". |

Cain is having his best start of the season by FAR. Finally showing some of the form he showed late last season when he was called up.

Watching Barry run the bases is painful. Give the guy a wheel chair or something.

Any Astros fans getting a bit nervous about Lidge? Sure, he was 7-for-7 in saves until last night, but that was his 3rd HR allowed already this year, following his disasters in the playoffs.

No. We just need to restrict him to certain situations: 1) Save situation 2) No more than 1 inning (for a while) 3) MOST IMPORTANT THING -- must have the lead. Lidge CANNOT pitch without the lead. He gets way too cute.

Lidge has to get focused. Some great stuff there, but seems to be sloppy at times. Kind of Isringhausen-ish.

Bonds did hit another homer, but you could see him visible grimace while rounding third... looks like the knee is still bothering him.

Feliz should rename himself to the "rally killer". He hits into a DP every time we get some guys on base.

Blown call at first allows Delgado to come up in the inning and bomb one into the cove.

Oops. Your right. Was going back and forth between the EDM/DET hockey game and the Giants game.
Damn lefties all look alike when they swing.

That call was really awful. I think MLB managers should be able to call for an umpire conference once per game. It wouldn't be as intrusive (or accurate) as instant replay but it would give a chance for appeal when some really fucks up like tonight. |

I stand corrected. We should walk Barry every AB from now on. That was a pinch hit HR too.

Don't forget it was a pinch-hit HR with 1st base open. Good for Wagner for having cojones, but I'd bet that because of that one at-bat, Barry sees VERY few pitches with 1st base open for the next month or so.
