Running Commentary - I scored first blood by coming across the pitch and going through the other side.

He got a great bounce on the ko.

We are each down to 10 because of Heat exhaustion

I plugged up teh middle and he couldn't score - halftime.

I kickoff, good bounce for me and we're out of this damn heat exhaustion.

Yeah, things looked bleak for my team, so I figured what the heck. Got lucky and was able to rumble in for a draw.

Needless to say, I am not very good at this game yet.

I have a question for you vets. What is the standard etiquette regarding fouling? Is it generally anything goes? Or do people frown on teams that foul a lot?

I sucked. I had 80k from my first match so I replaced Drang. It's ok, its just a practice squad to get me used to the. I really like these Dark Elves though.....

Oh, and I got my first skill level up. One of my linemen was voted MVP in both mathces and leveled up. I grabbed Block.

It really varies. A lot of people will complain. Then again a lot of guys have teams designed to foul the bejesus out of the opposition. I really typically only do it if I need some sort of strategic advantage. If someone does something to go past a certain threshold, then I'll likely retaliate heavilly. To me it really is part of the game, so I have a pretty high threshold before I'd get upset. With others any foul is a bad thing.

Block is very good. Guard is also a very good lineman skill. I think it is one of those things where you really need to learn how to use it. One of my blitzers has it..but I think it only came up one time in our game. I need to figure out how to make more use of it.

Block is great, because you're always hitting people, and you completely get rid of one of your negative results.

My personal position is this: Did it help you strategically? For example, Against Glengoyne's team just now, I was continung to block even though he'd broken past my defenses and was going to win without me touching him. I can get star points for a casualty off a block. I get nothing off a foul, so why do it then?

Makes sense. How about this scenario:

What if I had a team that was bigger and stronger than my opponent and my strategy was to try to knock out some of his players? If I foul early and often to try to get him down to 9-10 guys on the field to my 11, is that considered shady?

Not Shady. In fact there are teams designed around that concept...See Khemri or to a degree Chaos.

The deal is, in an open play environment, some people won't play you with some of their teams.

Okay. That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overdoing it. I fouled 3-4 times in my game with Bonegavel the other night (my first game ever) and then fouled once tonight against Anxiety. It helped me out a little bit because I was able to thin their numbers a hair, but I did have a guy ejected in my game with Bonegavel. But it occurred to me that maybe that was bad form.

Thanks for the info.

My only advice with the fouling is be careful with it. Some of the Elf teams can be crippled early on in their existance if you foul them too much. I had a Wood Elf team in a RL league down to 8 players after three games last year. That pretty much killed any chance of that team being any good due to the cost of the players. But, the Elf coach needs to realize this and try to prevent his players from being in positions in which they can be fouled.

Ok, I think all teams have been invited (I'll have a third team before I press the GO button)

Two teams have to accept their invites:

Anxiety's Annihilators (just added)
and
Serpents Tongue (astrosfan)

nevermind, got it. Do you want any other teams (you can have up to 3)?

Hope some of the coaches who expressed interest early in the thread see this, be a shame for them to miss it

You still there, Foz? If so, I'm up for a game. I've got a free team now - the Chaos bunch that Anxiety played - so this time the match can actually count.

Plus, since they've only played one game, it should actually be a fair match.
