If you use someone else's work you have to specifically say who you got it from, otherwise they have a right to gripe. All LL asked for was that you mention it was his work as well, and you failing to do that is wrong.

This has moved from silly to almost criminally ludicrous.

The guy compiled a group of files so that it would be in one convenient, bite-sized tidbit. He stated his thanks to the anonymous folks who did the work. Perhaps he erred in not recognizing that the prima donna(s) who did all of that precious work would need GIANT, BRONZED RECOGNITION,

HE'S A WITCH! BURRRRRRRRNNNNNNNN HIM!!!

Personally, I fail to see how Skydog can come across as the victim here- it is fairly standard practice among the modding commmunity for OOTP to credit people for their work, be it rosters, facepacks, schedules, etc- and that's all LL ever asked for. Frankly, the ignorance of this is fairly justified, but opposition even after being made aware of it shows a side of Skydog I havent seen here.
I don't understand where people are getting this. I NEVER stated any opposition to giving the guy credit. In my VERY FIRST RESPONSE to him, I asked if he wanted me to put his name on it, and he *NEVER* responded to that. He just kept on attacking.

So.. I was being humorous in suggesting he did not have a sense of humor, and therefore, my sense of humor was functioning unimpaired.

(Can you follow that? If so.. Please explain it to me! )

Fair enough SD, but I think he was perfectly legitimate in protesting his work being packaged into something else. Like countless people have suggested, if Killbrew, DD, and LL had been cited first, then this would be less of an issue.

I'm not sure what the majority thinks about this facepack but here are my positive and negative thoughts:

Positive:
- It's a different way to get these pictures without having to download the individual facepacks.
- SD and/or his affiliated Christian Youth web site is providing the online storage of the file so no costs are being passed on to anyone else.

Negative:
- No permission or credit given to the folks who found, cut/cropped/centered/resized/color enhanced/color-reduced/named-numbered/tested and originally posted these images.

I was one of those folks, I spent over 200 hours putting together nearly half of the images in the "SkyDog Compilation of Fictional Photos", and I don't think it's unreasonable for me to be annoyed when he spends a few hours on this project and then puts his name to it. If the individual facepacks he took images from were hard to find that would be another thing entirely, but these facepacks are easy to find. I think a little effort to credit the folks who did the actual work on these would have been easy to do. SkyDog, if you see this post, is there any reason you did not provide a readme crediting the folks who did the actual work?

Ben,

Just say "fuck it", rise above it, and move on. If he wants to wallow in this mess then let him. I wouldn't waste anymore time with it.

Skydog made an honest mistake, the compilation is now taken down, and in between there was hours of drama and potential enjoyment for every lurker on the two boards. Now everyone should let it die.

Here, let me answer for him:

Because he didn't think it would be such a big, FREAKIN' deal. He was doing it in an attempt to be helpful, got blind-sided by the resultant attack, and promptly removed the oh-so-dastardly file.

Here's a sword if you'd like to fall on it.

and if you're looking for a sincere apology from myself, there's one from me up a while ago. Sadly, there hasn't been one from LL calling all of us who participate at FOFC assholes.

I find it very strange that there is etiquette and manners for giving credit to someone who has used and abused other people's copyrighted work. I'm not taking sides here, but let's be honest - modding player pictures (that are someone else's work) is already borderline illegal (not making a profit from it helps). Saying SD was "bad" for not thanking someone doing borderline illegal stuff is just strange to me.

Of course, I do understand that we in this community like modders and their work, so SD should probably thank him. However, talking about "morality" and books/music hypotheticals, just doesn't make sense. This is a shady practice, but one we all like and enjoy. SD made a mistake - who here hasn't made one? He offered to correct that mistake - that seems pretty fair to me.

Ummmmm....I OFFERED to do that very thing (re-read my response to him, the third post in this thread, I think) and he never really responded to that offer, so I just took it down. As I've mentioned, I have no clue where they came from. I didn't set out to release a compilation. I set out to get a whole bunch of fictional faces for my league. Once I got it up and running in OOTP6, I thought, "Hey, this is pretty cool! Some other guys might want this too, and I can save 'em the 90 minutes or so of work that it took me to make this happen." By that time, I'd deleted everything that I didn't need for my fictional league, so I didn't have any readmes, file names, or anything else really to track down who had done this stuff. Further (as I've mentioned) it never occurred to me that not having their names on it would matter to anyone anyway. If I had any idea that would have been the case, I would have either gone back and researched my history files to figure out which web sites I'd gotten all the zip files from (there were somewhere around 8-12 zips, I think), or (more likely) I wouldn't have put it out in the first place, because I was excited about continuing my dynasty with all the faces in it that I now had. It is really that simple. There's nothing "sinister" here.

Bottom line: the "compilation" was a quicky afterthought to what I had really set out to do. I wasn't interested in doing a whole bunch more research. The 90 minutes or so I spent on this project in the first place is WAY more than I've ever spent on anything to "set up" a game. If I'd had the first clue that I was doing something "bad" or "taboo", I would have simply continued playing my dynasty career and not put it out.

that (with the addition of "I'm sorry") would have been an EXCELLENT 3rd post in the OOTP thread, instead of what you went with originally.

I'm done - I made my point. Some of you seem to agree, some disagree. And some just seem to want to irrationally argue or take sides. I'm surprised that you (Ben) didn't see it the same way that I did, but that's life.

Your apology cross-posted with my lawn mowing remark. Therefore, I retract the lawn mowing remark, as well as all rights and priveliges attached thereto.

However, since you continued on your wicked course and called me a superassclown, as well as tried to bribe me, you can wash my car.
