Ursulo trailed almost the entire race. He didn't make his move until the last 200m, when he accelerated rapidly, then held off Etoile to win by 3/4 length.

Again all listed horses. Again, for crying out loud, we go against Etoile. She should be very tired after just running 3 races ago. Aside from her, there is not any real competition.

The three favorites moved out together and stayed there for most of the race, with Etoile leading by a bit. Favorite catches Etoile with 100m to go and the 2 race to the end neck-and-neck. In a photo finish, Favorite wins, literally, by a nose. The third place horse was a good 15 lengths behind the 2 leaders.

B. Ladonia actually has a bit of competition in this race, though that is a relative term with her. There are 4 other horses with stats in the 70s, including 2, Flaming and Returns Monarch with all high 70s. A couple of them have technique (passing ability) scores 15 points above B. Ladonia, so a tight race could be tough down the stretch.

Well, we guess it was bound to happen sooner or later but, as they say, why couldn't it have been...much later. B. Ladonia started out towards the end of the gates and by the time she got in with the pack, she was already back in 7th place. She stupidly went to the rail and was hemmed in there. Horses were going by on the outside and she never was able to get out herself. By the time it was clear, the rush she made was wasted and she was well out of the money.

04-10-04: Race 5- Results... WOW!

Probably the greatest effort we have ever seen by an Almighty Farms horse was in this race by Feline. She started the race in box 14 (of 16) and didn't seem to recover the distance with a poor start. She was in dire straights, boxed in on the rail and a good 7 lengths behind the leader, Good Promise, when all of a sudden the outside traffic parted momentarily. Feline took the opening and BOLTED like she was shot from a cannon. She made the entire 7 lengths up in no time and was in 2nd place with 200m to go. Then her jockey hit her a good one and she took off again, She not only passed Grand Pluie to lead, but rocketed by so fast and hard she won by a good 5 lengths. Incredible effort.

nfg22 and kingfc22 thanks for the replies.

The lack of depth is shown over and over with the same horses running all the time. When you get different horses, the names are all similar still because the name file is so puny, I guess. Also, the remarks are the same again and again.

We move forward, nonetheless, giving thanks to those of you who take the time and effort to let me know there is more of an audience here than just me.

---> With his time of 0:48 for a Km in his last race, Ursulo now has the fastest time in the game for gallop racers. B. Ladonia, in her loss, posted the same time, but we assume the first one is the one the game recognizes.

---> 2 staff members still have morale scores of 90 or higher to aid in the efficiency of the entire crew.

---> Our fame score is at 73, good for a tie for 40th place out of 151.

0:48 for a kilometer is, as we have discussed, above world record time (by around four seconds) so that is one fast horse. Would be interesting to see Ursulo go up against Beautiful Ladonia at some point...

Slightly off-topic, did you see the Preakness? Whew...if he runs that race in New York in two weeks, Smarty Jones is going to pull a Secretariat. Eleven lengths and pulling away in nine furlong race. Impressive. And, since New York legalized Lasix...that is one less hurdle.

Times in races is just one more thing that is wacko. Ursulo has the record on the screen that shows such stuff but B. Ladonia ran the same time in placing 8th, which should mean some other horse in her race should have had a time under 0:48, but doesn't. We have a race with 2 Almighty Farms horses running against each other coming up.

Yes, I saw the Preakness and, while not really that big a fan of horse racing in the run-of-the-mill races, it was very impressive. Since Secretariat is my best ever horse, I kinda hope Smarty doesn't win by an ungodly amount, though I do hope he wins the Triple Crown- it has been long enough.

Favorite and Imperatrice are entered in the same race as there was nothing else open. The time between races is due to us not running when all there is to enter are steeplechases. It seems to be cyclical, with a bunch of flat type races followed by a bunch of steeplechase races. We are currently steering clear of steeplechase runs when possible and concentrating on training during those times instead.

All Level I National horses but none in B. Ladonia's league. Ratings are all in the high 60s to low 70s. We will note a bit here as to how much form might give an advantage as Destiny Joy has a higher form (90s) than Ladonia (80s) and a horse named Daddy Duchess has the highest of all at 94.

The reason for the Place bet instead of a Win is that Ladonia will start in gate 14 (of 16) and we remember how that screwed her up last race.

Beautiful Ladonia had a bit of a poor start and was stuck on the outside most of the race. She finally got her act together about midway through and caught the leader, Saga Lil Queeny. She was out wide with Destiny Joy and Jimo Orange on her inside. There was a lot of whip usage but Ladonia was able to sustain her charge better than the others. She won easily, by 2 1/2 lengths.

Feline and Aurore du Pantin take the early lead. Down the back straight they go 4 wide with Feline, Aurore, Magic Run and Playful all there to contend. Feline has some kind of problem and slows to a crawl, it seems, falling 7 lengths back of the leaders. She finally rights herself, or the jockey does, but it is too late. Aurore is too far ahead, though Feline does manage to move up enough for second.

All entries are Listed and they all suck. All except one, that is. The horse that defeated Ursulo in his last race is in this as well. Samurai Mystery, with stats in the 80s, is entered. It will be good to see how Ursulo runs against what could be turning into his NEMESIS.

SInce the 2 are head and shoulders above the pack, we have made a new kind of bet. A Double Place, at least in this game, picks the first 2 finishers in a race. Unlike the Exacta, the order of finish is not important. It should be a gimme bet with these 2 horses.

Ursulo runs to the front immediately. Samurai Mystery gets there as well but, coming from box 18 (of 19), he may have exerted too much energy to fast in doing so. Down the back straight, Samurai's jock goes to the whip already and he shoots to the lead over Ursulo. With 500m left, however, Ursulo has taken command and, at 400m, Willie Green gives him a nudge with the rod and Ursulo is gone. Samurai makes a valiant effort to stay up but is unable to do so. Ursulo wins easily by 4 lengths, a great win for him and Almighty Farms.

As you can see, we have made a Triple Play with the 3 quality horses which is like the Double Play, only with the first 3 finishers, in any order (duh ). Should be another easy bet to win.

Artic from box 2, Favorite from box 7 and Imperatrice from box 18 leave no doubt from the start where the quality is. Favorite holds the early lead in the back straight and Minor tries to join the fun but can't sustain the push. 500m to go it's still Favorite in first, with Imperatrice and Artic right there. With 400m to go Favorite and Imperatrice take off, but Artic can't go with the Almighty Farms horses. Imperatrice takes over with 200m to go and she is just too good today, as even Favorite falls behind and Artic is way back in third. Imperatrice wins by 2 lengths over Favorite, with Artic another 4 lengths back in third.

TheAlmighty,

Is there a list of your horses, records, winnings and grade? Would be interesting to see who has won the most, etc.

TE - is there a way to edit the horses name file? That might alleviate all the duplicate horses in races.

Lokugh, very shortly we will hit the mid-year mark, at which time I will be doing a stat/training/ everything update on all our horses.

kingfc22, in game there is no way I know to edit. I suppose I could try ResHacker or something except I don't actually know how to do that. If anyone knows how, fill me in and I could add a bunch of names to the file, including FOFC names.

Another one that should be a walk in the park. All horses have stats in the 30s and low 40s, but what do you expect when Purple is still just in her 2nd try.

This was one of the more boring, easy runs. Purple Tearse shot out of the gate to an immediate 6 length lead. Horses are always caught, and Purple was no exception, but even with some major whip action by numerous jockeys, no horse even came close to Purple and she ran away with an easy 10 or so length win.

Hold is Level III. All competitors are Level II but with ratings in the 50s and 60s. Hold should be the winner. Still don't understand how the oddsmakers selsct their favorites, seeing as how he is only the 6th favorite to win but has stats that are 20 points higher in things that should matter in a short race.

Hold breaks out of the gate poorly and hits the rail in third place. However, horses start coming up on the outside and he is soon pinned on the rail in seventh. With 500m to go, Hold seems dead in the water, still seventh with no apparent escape but, at the 400m mark, horses begin whip spurts and the outside opens for Hold. He takes advantage, moves out into the open and takes off. Another shot from Salviaque and he takes control, winning by 1 1/2 lengths at the end.

All entries are Listed with ratings in the 30s and 40s. Except for one. Yes, that's right. Our old friend Etoile des Hautvents is in this race. Seems like he is entered every other time one of our Almighty Farms horses is entered. Game says he has only 9 starts but it seems more like 29. How he is still listed is a mystery, but here we go again.

Etoile from box 12 and Purple from box 4 roar out to the lead and immediately put up a 7 length lead before the field decides to start the race. Purple sets the pace on the inside while Etoile sits on the outside, 1/2 length back. With 500m to go, Purple leads by a head. The 2 leaders use the stick at the same time and leave the rest to fend for themselves. Stride for stride with 300m left. Neck-and-neck with 200m to go. Not a hair seperates Etoile and Purple as they head for home. Etoile hits the whip again and takes a lead. Grosjean gives Purple a shot and she catches up. With 25m to go, the pair are dead even and 12 lengths in front. To the wire they go, together. It's a PHOTO FINISH... and, and, and Etoile takes the gold by a nosehair. What a race.

How much more of a season is left? I'm curious on what happens when you can start breeding. Do you plan on renting out the stables you have vacant now or buying new horses to fill them out? And one last question. Are there any more improvements you can do? Maybe move locations and that allows for more boxes?

Hey Junior19. Thanks for your continued support and interest..

If by season you mean breeding, all I know is it starts in february. Didn't notice last year when it ended but the game wouldn't allow me to try to breed any of my 2 year old females. As far as I know now, when you breed a horse, she can run races for the first 3 months, then is put to 'rest' until they give birth (however long that takes).

We had pretty full stables trying to get some money to cover expenses. Now, however, we are pretty rich, so we are letting all the boarders we still have leave and not replacing them. Eventually, we hope to have a full stable of only Almighty Farms horses.

There are no more improvements left to build and 20 boxes is the max allowed, no matter where you are, so we have as many as we will ever get now.

They generally stop breeding after the spring since the resulting foal would be born too late in the year otherwise to compete fairly. Don't remember the exact months, though.

11 months.

This is why it's generally accepted within the horse industry that breeding season starts on Valentine's Day. Since all horses "age" on January 1, you ideally want your foal to be born on or right after Jan. 1, so as to make him as old as possible on the universal birthday. By breeding your mares around mid-February, this gives you the best shot at an early January foal.

Ursulo is being held back by his low discipline rating. Discipline dictates how well a horse will accept training, that is, speed of improvement from training. He also has the lowest resistance, meaning he can tolerate training less before threat of injury will increase to dangerous levels.

He needs more acceleration training now, and his adaptability needs improvement as well, though we are not sure what exactly that does for a horse. The manual just states that it "gives flexibility to the behavior of the jockey." Don't know if that means the temperament or the control rating or what. We may never know.

Favorite is progressing nicely. Unfortunately, as one of our first buys, we now see that she will never attain the status some of her stable mates may reach. While her discipline score is good, it is not excellent. Her improvement will be steady but she started with relatively low ratings in all areas and so must train in all three major areas (speed, acceleration and endurance), not peaking in any for years.

We will see that Favorite first gets trained for more speed, then endurance. Acceleration is higher at this time and so we will wait 'til last there.

Hold, we fear, will possibly end as a disappointment. He may end up as a good stud horse (if the game has such a thing). As you can see, his discipline score is so low that he takes much longer to show any improvement from his training program. There's not much to do but look, from now on, at purchases with much higher discipline ratings and not have to deal with this problem again.

Hold will be trained to be a sprinter, skipping the longer races. With this in mind, we will work on his speed for a good while, with a bit of technique worked in so he can accelerate and pass in the stretch.
