Chief, I was going to make a spreadsheet of picks and keep it updated throughout the draft...if I can figure out how to post that here, then we can use that and you don't have to give me your username/pw info - really don't want to go there if we don't have to

Yeah, was just tossing crap against the wall. I didn't really figure I would go that far. I was actually thinking that you could just copy my draft board every morning in your own post and update it as we go along. But, yeah, a spreadsheet works, too.

Imhotep as an Intellectual? I've heard the name before, but I don't remember his accomplishments. Can someone enlighten me?

I have a question. Just noticed something. There is no 50s-60s category. Shoudl we make it 50s-70s or are we just not taking people from the 50s?

OK, my bad. For some reason I just read that as 1950.
Picking shortly...

2.3 Mahatma Gandhi - Good Historical Person - Pre-WWII 1901-1939
My 2nd pick is also my 2nd versatile person. Gandi could fit into 2 eras and possibly 3 categories. His accomplishments speak for themselves, not to mention his influence on others that will appear in this draft. |

I'm surprised Gandhi didn't go earlier, since I sometimes hear his name used as a verb for good acts.

What's interesting is I have the impression there's some controversy surrounding Ghandi. For most people though, I agree, there's definitely a perception of him as a good historical person.

I don't disagree with that, obviously there's some controversy surrounding him...but he's generally perceived as good, so he fit there. I figured I'd use him there or cultural icon. |

Dola - that was his 3rd category, and yeah, that would have changed by era. There's too many other possibilities for that era, so I wanted to go with his strengths in the other. I'm having a ball doing this, btw. A lot of fun seeing all the picks. Can't wait to see how things look after everyone has 5-6 picks. Last edited by ColtCrazy : 06-24-2008 at 10:24 PM. |

I debated Abe or Washington with my 1st pick but saw that the ancients were going off the board. I still debate with myself if Washington was not America's greatest ruler.

Actually only 1 ancient era person has been taken right? Imhotep? The rest were all classical. I'm finding the Ancient era to be quite trying when it comes to finding quality persons. |

2.5 Catherine the Great - Women, 1700s
A brilliant woman in an arena traditionally dominated by men, she skillfully navigated a turbulent Russian political arena to emerge as undisputed monarch. She doubled Russia's size during her reign and was a great patron of the arts. Truly one of the great rulers in history, as well as one of the most powerful women in history.

I lump the Classical era into Ancient since many describe pre-Middle Age as the "Ancient" age (i.e. Ancient Greeks, Ancient Romans, etc.). |

2.6 Michael Jordan - Sportsmen, 1980-1999
With so many "best of" still remaining, it was hard to choose. I went with what many pick as the greatest athlete of all time. |

Some neat picks so far. I would offer opinions, but as the moderator, I don't want to have the appearance of being impartial.
I need to start thinking about my "left off" list for when you guys are done drafting.

Yeah, but with Jesus, Caesar, Alexander, St Nick and arguably, Mohammad, going early, I call those the ancients and tend to be what many were thinking of in the 1st round. |
