And I'm perfectly okay with that. It's as if it's unavoidable no matter how the big schools try to rig the system.

They sure didn't defend that very aggressively.

I think they would rather them have the FG then give up a big play and possibly deal with a TD.

Well...that was a pretty ineffective set of 3 plays.

I've never understood this logic of the playoff-haters.. I think there are some arguments for the Bowl System, but I dont' think this is one of them.

If you use I-AA as a model, two of the top teams are almost always the ones in the title game.

I don't like the "First to 6 pts" philosophy either. It tends to not be "First to 6 pts," but "First to kick a 47 yard FG on 1st & 10, just in case something goes wrong."

College should be "Four quarters and go home, win lose or tie."

Pro should be similar to now, but kick off after a score. It may be difficult to imagine, but an overtime game would always end on a play, not a kick. It would increase the odds of coaches going for the end zone.

Kentucky looks completely tentative. They're nibbling. 4-5 yard passes

I could buy changing to some other system that gives both teams a chance, but as-is the College system is better than the NFL imo.

Might as well play a 5th quarter like basketball, who ever scores the most in OT wins. An 8 minute quarter would likely allow both teams to get at least one possession. It's not perfect, but 10 minutes seems like too long.

Touchdown! I couldn't believe the fullback ran out of bounds at the 1 on 1st down, but it worked out I guess.

That would be my favored solution for college and the pros. I'd go with 7:30 for the quarter length.

I hope its not freakin' Cal or something... Despite not really deserving it, I suppose tOSU might be the best shot at it.

The voters aren't real creative, so I imagine Cal.

Edit: although it could be tOSU since they're neck and neck in the polls.

Why not Cal? They have easily the best resume in the nation now, and its not even close.

If Cal falls then I'm thinking it becomes tOSU in a landslide.

Will we see BC or South Florida in the title game? OSU and Cal will obviously have to lose. Cal still has to play USC and Arizona State. The Big 10 sucks, but OSU has to get past Illinois, Wisconsin, and at Michigan. South Florida has Cincinatti as their biggest opponent left. BC has VT and Florida State.

I have a question about instant replay in college / pro football that came up from watching a game today. Here's the scenario:

First down is at the 20 1/2 yard line. Initial spot of the ball after a play puts it at the 20, so it is a first down and the chain moves. Right before the next play is snapped, they decide to review the play, and say it should be marked at the 20 1/2 yard line, give or take some inches. The chains have already moved, so there is no way to do a reasonable measurement to decide if it is a first down or not. Also, you don't know exactly where the first down should be anymore based on the previous play.

To me it seems like a play shouldn't be reviewable if the chains have moved. And for a game of inches like football can be, there is an awful lot of guessing on marking the ball.

Ok Captain Hyperbole.

Honestly, I see tOSU getting the #1 spot by the virtue of better performances overall. Even if Cal gets #1 this week, it won't last long, looking at their schedule I'm expecting them to lose 2, possibly 3 games before the season ends.

tOSU has 1 real chancy game other than the season ending Mi-shit-gan game. That being @ Penn State. Though even that isn't looking nearly as challenging as it had early in the season.

As close as the poll voting has been lately though you shouldn't be surprised at all that Cal ends up 2nd next week even if they win tonight.

It seems pretty clear to me that USF has the easiest path to the title game right now.

Eh? OSU closes at Penn State, vs Wisconsin and Illinois, and then at Michigan... you're expecting Cal to lose to Arizona state and USC but basically calling OSU's schedule a walk in the park?

I think you win the hyperbole contest!

South Florida seems to have the easiest remaining schedule out of all BCS unbeatens, but I have a hard time imagining them not losing to rutgers, cinci or one of the other weaker teams in the big east. I'm betting on about 5 solid 1 loss teams this year all jumbled at the top.

So Woodson looks pretty good, but I don't think I'm sold on him being an elite qb at the next level. He definitely doesn't impress me as much as Russell did in college.
