Dude. It's a current, popular show in something like it's ninth season.

In a family draft, I'd say he could be a weak pick overall. Lurch would have been a solid pick.

I think Salem was a great last pet pick. I was having trouble thinking of any more at this point.

Will Smith - Either best friend or Wildcard. I almost took him over Urkel. I mean, come on folks, the show is named after him!

Another one I almost took in the friend category. Had the most snicker worthy name that some of your parents would have no idea why you're laughing.

I don't think he fits in best friend well. Wildcard has a lot of good picks.

Several others from Fresh Prince would have been excellent picks. Carlton as a brother, Philip as a father, Hilary as sister, heck even Bel-Air as a location would have been good, since it was in a title of a show.

I think a vast number of people know what WKRP refers to off the top of their heads than WNYX.

I wasn't really into sitcons in my early 20's. I think the older generation will remember WKRP better, it was a classic that had a solid cast

THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. Seriously, just anyone from it. That's my only smack myself on the forehead no-pick.

Other than that, I liked Milhouse Van Houten (Simpsons) as a best friend (you can walk all over him, which is a good quality in a friend) and Mr. Roper (Three's Company) as a wildcard. A wacky landlord? Now that's quality TV.

I definitely wish I had taken either Will Smith as a wildcard, or Carlton as a brother, but they repeatedly slipped my mind.

As much as I love Always Sunny, it's just too new and too cult status at this point to devote a pick to it.

I was kind of surprised that none of Mary Tyler Moore's character were taken anywhere.

I had both Dick van Dyke and Milhouse on my list, but taking Burns early eliminated Milhouse, and I liked other dads a bit better, although there is nothing quite like van Dyke's slapstick physical comedy.

I think That 70s Show was pretty under-utilized as well. I took Red because I love his dad character, but Midge, Fez, Kelso and Lori all could have been good picks as well.

Quick straw poll: Since it was a sitcom-themed draft, I considered taking "Ubu" as pet. (Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog.)

Clever? Or dumb? How would you have reacted?

Hrm... Thats a real interesting thought. I would love to see the reaction to that pick.

Oh and on Jazz as best friend, I missed him on my list, he was there just forgot to mention him.

Couple that I contemplated

Pet - Spot (Munsters)
Father - Jack Arnold (Wonder Years)
Location - Pacific Princess (Love Boat... it was considered a sitcom I do believe)
Brother - Niles Frasier

I had considered Kimberly Drummond as my pick for sister, but picking at the end of the draft, in a pretty weak category, I went for the non-conventional selection. Plus Different Strokes had already been taken from.

I had the Marty Crane on my list from Frasier for dad.

I'm also pretty surprised Bud Bundy was not taken as a brother. It was between him and Richie pretty much for me. Complete opposites, but both real good.

Think even though a show wasn't eliminated for everyone once it was picked, it seems most people tried not to go to the same well too often.

Fred wasn't really known that much as a dad though which is I why I didn't go with him. I went with Jed because I think he was the base holding all the craziness together on that show.

I really think we need to revisit this draft at a later date, with elimination of shows once anyone picks someone from it, and at least one more category, relative other than father, mother, brother, sister

Which was probably a mistake, in terms of the voters. They won't care who took a show a when. I think sometimes we were all trying to impress each other with a new show rather than just make an easy pick that was right there.

Agreed.

See Mom from My Mother the Car.

WTF is that. I've watched a LOT of old tv in my day, and I've NEVER heard of this.

Speaking of Different Strokes, I seriously considered drafting "The Guy Who Tried to Molest Arnold" as my bad guy.

I don't even know his name, but that episode scared the crap out of me.

I think that might have been a winner with the voters. A perfect villain really, for a TV family.

Definitely easy for that to happen. Kimberly Drummond stands out to me as someone that really should have been taken. Whether its 'fair' or not, that character would stand out more because of the real life issues Dana Plato had later in life.

Similarly, would Michelle Tanner really be a good pick if it wasn't for the future that the Olson Twins have had? That character stands out much more IMO simply because of the girls that played her.

I agree with this, I think my pick of Samantha Micelli stands out more because it is Alyssa Milano. If it was played by some girl who turned out to be ugly, it probably wouldn't have been as good of a pick.
