Inner Midfielders
Normal: Stamina, Playmaking
Defensive: Stamina, Playmaking, Defense
Toward Wing: Stamina, Playmaking, Winger
Offensive: Stamina, Playmaking, Passing

I think this is accurate. Playmaking and Stamina are most important. Give them a secondary order if you have to to cover something else up or if they have significant secondary skills.

Running a 5-3-2 is going to kill you in the midfield, though. I think it's a neat idea, but I think you might find winning to be impossible based upon how Hattrick values the midfield so highly. Maybe play a few of your central defenders as offensive? That improves the midfield, but they may have to have some Stamina and Playmaking then.

Big win this week against one of our league rivals. Not as much of a rival as the SouthPark Cows, but still a worthy opponent.

6-1 victory for Cowtown at home against the 2nd place team from last season (we were 3rd). Hattrick in the first half for the forward I bought last week because my old one got a red card... guess the old one is a b-teamer now.

My top 10 rating was nice while it lasted and I'll be back up there, but here's everyone's chance to run by me. I need my starters for my cup game more than I needed for my 6-1 series win. That's an ugly 42, if my math does me right.

3-0 convincing win. The Morrisvillians stand alone atop V.93.

Note to MylesKnight: If you'd really like to use a true defensive formation, I'd suggest a 5-4-1... I've had success with it against teams with poor midfields.

A solid 5-1 thrashing of the team that will finish #5 in my division. Hurts that I lost my #2 Forward for 4 weeks though

A 2-0 win with my B squad against the second worst team in the division. Look for a jump in the ratings next week, as I will play my A-squad against my league rivals and will have just spent about $250,000 of hard-earned cash in the transfer market.

I'm ashamed to even post this 44. I lost 3-1. This was the first time I have been defeated in 17 games

I don't have much of a chance in my Cup match, but after playing my "B" team and losing, I had better pull out a win.

I just have to beat this:

My 2nd best total attack ever... yet only a 3-3 tie. My best middie is still in poor form.

for whomever was going to play 5-3-2, one point I haven't seen yet is that you can augment your midfield by playing one or more of your central defenders offensively. find one that has good stamina and playmaking.

still, it seems to be pretty well accepted that in the long run you can't be successful with this formation. Of course, if you want to be the outlaw that refuses to conform....

That team rocked. Although I liked the version with George Ackles better than the one with David Butler, even if they ended up losing in the finals. And Mo Scurry was probably the first guy I remember screaming after rebounds and dunks. But that's another story.

Anyway . . .

Since you're going with defense as your team's direction, I'd suggest consider moving toward using 5-4-1 in your friendlies and 4-5-1 in your league games. That still gives you 9 defenders to train each week while offering you some strength in the middle. If you are going through a rough stretch anyhow, it probably won't matter if your suffer confusion for a game or two. You can probably get to a non-confusion level in either of those (my suggestion would be 4-5-1) in the next 3 games (2 friendlies and 1 league). After that, if you'd chosen to go with 4-5-1, you should be able to start alternating 5-4-1 for friendlies with 4-5-1 for league without suffering too much. Otherwise, if you'd gone with 5-4-1 straight, you should safe from confusion then but I think you will still be suffering from a weak midfield.

As RonnieDobbs said, you'll want to first focus on stamina and playmaking for midfield. Since you are going through a rough stretch at the moment, you might consider doing a fair stretch of stamina training since the negative effect of form should not hurt too much. That's the first thing that will get your midfield into some order and you might be able to sneak some games out in the second half with stamina. The bonus is that stamina training is fairly quick so you should be able to get back to your defensive training fairly soon.

Good luck!

Ya, I pretty much figured it was because of the instruction mistake and the formation change. I'd love to be able to screw up and "drop" to an excellent, though.

POSTING IS NOW CLOSED

Since I'm off work today, I have decided to start hunting ratings from Hattrick earlier. I've already got 49 of my 102 needed ratings from this thread, and this is pretty much in line with what I used to get from the first two weeks...

Thanks again to everyone who posted their ratings.

Rankings should be ready at some point this afternoon...

I was very disappointed with my game... 1-1 tie

I did use my backup goalie... but the problem was that my new forward just got injured for 4 weeks!! That's now my best winger, starting goalie, and best forward all getting injured... better lower that intensity...

Can you say DEFENSE? A solid 6-0 victory puts the boys squarely in position as league leaders. The only negative was the rain which kept fans away and didn't exactly improve the debt position.

Crap, just noticed the posting were closed already

Yeah I ONLY got an outstanding midfield with two innermids. I bet that magnificent playmaker just loved playing as a central defender... *grumbles*
