I can do the random draft list and have that up sometime tonight. People can start picking, the draft can officially start tomorrow morning.

That's all contingent on everyone agreeing on the rules...

That's fine as long as the paramaters are clear at the start.

Are we all okay with leaving it up to the voters...no reality shows...no movies...?

Are we leaving "sitcom" in the title? Or is it just the "family" draft?

Fine by me.

And I am stating emphatically I am picking the raunchiest team possible, and the judges can bite me.

But please vote for me.

And I refuse to draft a cartoon .. kinda.

I was going to replace Sitcom with TV. That way I don't lead the voters and drafters in the wrong direction.

If it's 30 minutes, and you laugh, it should count.

I can't think of an hour long show that I'd classify as a comedy. If someone could throw one out to help I'd be fine with it but I can't come up with one.

Well The Office is an hour sometimes. I know it is mainly 30 minutes but I don't want people to complain if someone took say Pam...and then someone else said...well The Office is an hour sometimes.

That's fine. I am just thinking of weekly hour long shows.

Like I think Rescue Me is hilarious but I don't consider it a comedy. That was all I came up with.

Eight is enough was initially suposed to be a comedy, but it tends to be considered a drama after the fact. When we startin?

With the first pick in the Television Family Draft, Karl selects:

1.1 Mom-Lucy Ricardo, I Love Lucy

One of the biggest sit-coms of all time, Lucy was a shining light in the often dark wasteland that sit-com moms normally inhabit. She could pull off physical comedy, vaudeville nods, and musical comedy.

As hard as it was to choose, I felt this pick was necessary to take, because in the world of tv sit-coms, a good mom can be hard to find.

Suck it. Don't even remind everyone how I had to take over for you in the "Greatest athletes of all time draft" after you saddled me with lebron james and kurt angle.

I hate being #11, but it's good because I have to reshift my thinking now away from just my definition of sitcom .

I was thinking that if I had the 1st pick, that I would have been tempted to take Lucy, but would have struggled with putting her in the obvious 'Mom' category and might have went a different direction. While she was a parent on the show, I don't know how much Momness she really displayed. If there was a female lead category, I think this would have been a slam dunk.

I agree with the Lucy sentiments. An obvious choice to go somewhere but it makes it a tough sell because of forcing her into a catergory.

Oh come on...most famous female in the history of television, and she had little Ricky! What does she need to do? Breastfeed on the air?

Too bad most people 25 and under think Peggy Bundy is more relevant then Lucy.

Some people here are way too eager to bash picks.

Comparing Lucy to the Shia Labouef pick? Madness...

I may be a little too young (and I'm not young relative to the overall board) to appreciate/villify the Lucy pick, but there are at least two moms that I thought of initially in this category that I think would be better received. I would not have floated either of them as the #1 overall pick.

For me, I don't really think of Lucy as a mom. That's why I'm panning the pick. It has nothing to do with time. There are plenty of older picks who will work great in this draft.

I could be wrong in my recollections, however. I don't remember the family portion being a central part of I Love Lucy.
