Pitt has some talent, but they are very weak on both lines and at quarterback. My observation is that they are not real well coached, either. You see a lot of fundamental mistakes (inopportune penalties, poor decisions by skill players, missed tackles, etc.). As a WVU fan, my biggest fear is if/when Wanny gets canned, they hire a good fundamental coaching staff, because they have quite a bit of talent there.

I usually think it is a good idea to give any new coach five years so that they can get their players and philosophies installed, but I don't see a shred of improvement from them and they are rarely even competitive in their games with decent teams anymore. But he is the new AD's selection and he doesn't seem like the type of guy to admit that he made a bad choice. I think the whole Syracuse AD could use a shake up (aside from men's bball).

And why does the lead analyst in the studio feel the need to say things like "these guys are really bad?" I mean, do we ask him to do that? I mean, the other guys are there for that I guess. But it seems to me that it wasn't always that way. I mean, make informed comments about blown coverages or something. But the side commentary that's just pervasive in 'journalism' today is downright annoying.

I'd be really happy for Sly Croom if Miss State can get that win down at Auburn. He was one of those guys who was supposedly on the hot seat to start the year and he didn't have much to work with when he got there, but to be able to turn a corner and notch a big win would be great for them.

A thought here.. The Big Ten Conference may soon be sending out an all points bulletin to all members stating to keep away from SoCon Members in their future scheduling.

I don't know how big an upset it would actually be for Minnesota or Indiana to win today.

Here is why he missed the bus.

Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones did not board a bus departing for the trip to Michigan, Coach Charlie Weis said in a statement Friday.

Jones started Notre Dame's opener, a 33-3 loss at home to Georgia Tech. He was pulled as starter last Saturday against Penn State in favor of freshman Jimmy Clausen.

Jones' status at Notre Dame is now in doubt.

Against Georgia Tech, Jones was 1-of-3 passing for 4 yards and ran the ball 12 times for 28 yards. Four of the six drives he led ended in three-and-outs, and he fumbled the ball away on the other two possessions.

"At 2:30 today, while boarding the bus to Michigan, I was notified that Demetrius Jones had decided not to make the trip," Weis said in a statement. "I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts."

Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones has enrolled at Northern Illinois and intends to play there next season, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Jones started Notre Dame's season opener against Georgia Tech, but was pulled before the end of the first half and had not played since. He did not join Notre Dame on its road trip to Michigan this weekend.

Friday, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis confirmed that Jones had decided not to make the team's bus trip to Michigan. "I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts," Weis said in a statement.

Against Georgia Tech, Jones was 1-of-3 passing for 4 yards and ran the ball 12 times for 28 yards. Four of the six drives he led ended in three-and-outs, and he fumbled the ball away on the other two possessions. Freshman Jimmy Clausen replaced Jones as Notre Dame's starter for last week's game at Penn State.

The departure is the second for a Notre Dame quarterback since this spring. Zach Frazer, who was eliminated from contention for the starting job after spring practice, transferred to Connecticut.

Joe Schad is a college football reporter for ESPN.

Hmm...I'm sure he applied late and they pushed his application forward personally. Heck, this happens at the D-III level, so I bet in D-1 it's a smooth process because the coach handles it himself.

Texas Tech up 7-0 on Rice early in the first. This one could get REALLY ugly...Rice lost to Nicholls State, for gods sake.

Wow. Mississippi State just ran the ball up Auburn's gut. 10 straight runs on a 56 yard drive to take the lead 19-14.

Man, Pitt is a poorly coached team if there ever was one. No sense of urgency, kids playing like the game wasn't on the line. I mean, talk about mental breakdowns left and right. MSU got a gift today.

I mean, on that last play..they had two guys that were down the field within the distance of the ball. The QB put it where it needed to be and that kid looked at the ball like "huh? what? for me?"

Wannstedt is a pretty good recruiter, but he is not very good at finding coaches that teach or scheme well. Pitt's AD job just opened up (former AD left to take over at Arkansas) and I think Pitt and Wanny would be better off if they promoted him to an admin. job and brought in a younger, more dynamic head coach.

7-0 Florida already, on an 83 yd punt return TD.
As you might expect, poor tackling on the punt (which came after a dropped first down pass) led to the score.

It's gonna be a looong day ... or at least a looong KOR.
Coker inside the UF 30 with some broken tackles of his own.

Auburn had 1st and goal from the MSU 9 late in the 4th. Cox gets 1 completion for 0 yards and three incompletions to end the game. Mississippi State with their biggest win since the upset over Florida.

I guess I never realized the University of Washington was in Seattle. I don't know why I thought it was somewhere else in Washington.

Meanwhile, the Michigan drubbing is apparently underway. And how did UM get three straight home games? I guess that App State game was a gimmie, but still two back to back games against top opponents is..impressive.

Touchdown, Michigan.

By the way...what's up with Tech playing three CUSA teams in a row? SMU, then UTEP, now Rice? Shouldn't they spread their non-conference schedule around?
