I hope it is and it pretty much better be, since there has been significant time since the original.

Is there a good Crusader King tutorial out there. Seems like alot going on at any given time. I'm grasping the basics but, things like 'Should X person marry Y person' I'm scratching my head at.

I'm not sure how much of a tutorial is needed; everything is fairly self explanatory. Your kingdom will generally make money provided you are not at war. The smaller the kingdom there really isn't much to do. If you take an isolationist stance you can set the speed rather fast to actually make things happen. As for marriage, it's fairly hard to find someone Young and with excellent stats. In the latest version of CK, the infant mortality rate is much higher and probably more realistic. Other then that, trial and error is probably the best way to learn in the game.

No, the expansion is not standalone. You need CK to be able to play it.

A few basic tips:

If you need heirs, marry as young as possible. 16 is ideal, but I'd go under 20 if at all possible.

If you're looking to marry to give yourself a chance at inheriting a land, look for County/Duchy/Kingdom with semi-salic inheritance laws and marry the oldest eligible daughter of the titled noble you can find, preferably one with no male heirs.

If you want to have the best chance possible of creating a super courtier, look at statistics.

Look for a good Coat of Arms mod, facepacks, and picture sets in the forums. I'm sure you can find something that suits you.

After that, you're set to play.

I think there's Improvement Packs floating around that some people use too, but I still stick to Vanilla.

There's also some Event Packs that people have a lot of fun with, but again I haven't messed with those.

I'm pretty boring with my CK experience.... I just have vanilla with the 1.05 patch on top.

Vanilla with 1.05 is definitely the way to go. The other improvements are too unbalanced IMO.

FWIW, since I know there's some relatively new CKers about, this AAR/dynasty is often regarded as good reading material for beginners:

sweet. thanks izulde. i know i installed and started poking a bit but there were some things i felt weren't explained wonderfully or I didn't read the manual well-enough to figure out. I'll need to poke around the forums over there and read that AAR and what-not and see if I can figure out some of the stuff.

This is huge as the lack of it was he main reason for me to get tired of CK:

1.3 Ledger
For Deus Vult we have added a ledger as a reference tool to aid in your game play.
You are not obliged to use the ledger it is simply there as a tool. We have also added
the ability to double click on a character in the ledger and it will open the character
screen in the main game. The ledger is especially useful for keeping track of
characters. Here you can find brides and you can see what titles members of your
dynasty could inherit and thus who could really do with having an accident.

Sucky part about this is, old savegames aren't compatible... which means I'll have to wait until I finish BG&HC before getting DV.

Though I am looking forward to this expansion, I'm in no real rush to get it just yet. While Paradox has a reputation of making great games, those same games also need some time before a patch or two comes out to fix issues. I expect this CK expansion to be no different.

Dola, it works perfectly in windowed mode that is a great addition as i like to do other stuff when i play games. This plus the included ladger is a huge improvement to this game, and the expansion price is just $14.99

Yeah, this might have to wait a while for me. I'll also have to repurchase Crusader Kings, since I lost the orginial disk. With Lord of the Rings Online, Civ IV BTS, and FM2008...I'm busy

Do you need the original disc of CK, or just an original installation on the PC?

Just an original installation of CK is needed. It does not ask for the CK disk during the installation. However, if you have a disk installation, be prepared to hit a button a couple hundred times to change the read-only attribute of every file that it overwrites.

The downloadable version of CK is $7 only at gamersgate and it comes with a manual in pdf, for those that don't have the original.

Don't forget the old but great MSDOS:

Start->Run

Type cmd

Once you see the DOS Box type:

cd \Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Crusader Kings

then you type:

attrib /s -r *.*

then you can install the expansion without any message asking for overwriting.

Even easier, I think you can mass unset the readonly flag in windows as well by just opening the properties in the main folder and toggling it on/off.

Once upon a time, I downloaded CK. I've looked through my email and I can't find any confirmation email or any other record of the purchase. Do any of you know how the download works or how I could get a new copy?

If you bought a downloadable version and not DVD, then you probably bought it from www.gamersgate.com and there you can download it again after loging with your user/pass. There is also a button to resend you the password.

It took me a lot to discover it too. At the left down side, there is a small button between the + and - for the map zoom. Click on that button, on the screen that appears, advance to pages 4, 5, etc that is the ledger, wife finder etc.

It seems to have a much cleaner graphic feel, it has the EU2/3 date change pause that is annoying but I like everything else about it. Many more events and worth it

If you liked the original, you will love the improvements, but if you didn't like it, you won't like this a lot as the gameplay etc is more or less the same, with a bit better graphics and some improvements that are huge for old CK players, but that maybe are not that noticeable to new players.
