Yup. I don't know he would have had him for sure anyways, but it was pretty blatant. And that was still a bad sign to give that up on the opening kick.

Good tackle by the kicker. He doesn't know how to tackle so excuse the face mask.

And Florida gets to start their first possession inside OSU territory.

I know this isn't exactly PC but what we (I mean refs) are taught that if there is a hold that is no where near the play you let it go. It might not be the right thing to do but it's what is taught.

it was near the play though, if you see the replay, #1 was being held and was the only one with a chance to tackle ginn

Then it should've been called. I was only watching Ginn, didn't really see the blocking.

I think calling the game over might have been premature.

There's no way you say that is no where near the play imo.. I think if he's not held, he has a diving shot at the runner. Not an obvious shot, but certainly a shot.

Nice drive by the Gators there...

Wade I didn't see the blocking on that play so I wasn't commenting on that exact play. I was just making a general statement about holding. There is holding on every play but the refs have to judge whether or not it affected the play. That's all I'm saying.

Gotcha...

They just showed the replay, so hopefully you saw to see what we were talking about...

I'm fine with a hold being ignored if it doesn't influence the play in any shape or form... i think ...

so am i still supposed to laugh at american idol? i love the show, but the preshow stuff is just stupid. all these people know they suck, they just want to be on tv. it was ok in the beginning, but i dont think i'm alone in thinking that part of the show has become superfluous.

I was a big proponent of refs swallowing the whistle on a hold nowhere near the play, mostly due to one Rutgers game where they called holding on a WR who was a good 30 yards away from the play.

But as I started thinking about it more...how can you say a defender is really out of the play? What happens if the guy being held has world-class speed, and could've caught up to the RB/WR, especially if he's the type that would mix in east-west running that would allow more time to catch up? Think about that play by Ben Watson last year against Denver, when he came out of nowhere to blow up Champ Bailey, and nearly got credit for a game-changing play (on a game-changing play, the other way).

I guess it's a better topic for another day...but I just have a problem with refs making subjective calls of already subjective penalties.

Logan, you have to use your judgement though. If not then it ends up being a penalty ridden game where the refs decide it. It would not be good at all for the game.

OSU needs to do something on this drive or risk going down 14. Their defense hasn't come close to stopping the Gators.

I understand that, and I think that falls more in line with the old "holding can be called on every play if you really wanted to." I'm just saying if it's a clear hold somewhere on the field, it should be a penalty. You shouldn't overlook it just because you think the guy couldn't have made a play on the ball.
