8.12 Wednesday Addams, sister- The Addams Family

You could think of her as the inspiration for Harold from Harold & Maude, and possibly Lydia from Beetlejuice. Cutting off Barbie heads in a homemade guillotine? That's my kind of girl!

My next pick will be coming shortly

Nothing wrong with the alyssa milano pick, she could play a sister easily enough, but she wasn't one in that show.

As for the hotness comparison, If i wanted a girlfriend or long term lover I'd take alyssa, but for sheer one time freakiness christina all the way.

I was wondering if anyone would go from this show. It's probably my favorite show of all time, but got axed so fast by FOX that it's not so much of a cultural touchstone. Gob's a damn great character though, and always trying to sleep with your brother's girlfriend? That's a bad guy.

Re: Entourage. I've never seen it, but I always thought it was a drama.

EDIT: And no, I don't have cable now, but I did growing up

It's considered a 'dramedy', a class of sitcoms that also includes M*A*S*H and Taxi.

9.1. Corky, Life Goes On- Wild Card

I mean, is there really any more of a true wildcard than Corky. His lack of complete mental facilities, combined with a slight mean streak created some real interesting times for the Thatcher (yes, I had to look up their last name) family.

FACT: Corky once burned down his fathers restaurant, only to blame it on the immigrant chef.

FACT: Corky once stood up to bullies by donning a leather jacket and lip-synching "Fight The Power" at a Talent Show

Ok, thinking outside the box on this one. A lot of sitcoms have a wacky theme, and my next pick most definitely fits the bill. With Archie Bunker as the dad, having a mom that can handle and deal with him is a tall order. So that led me to my pick:

9.3 The car, from My Mother the Car - Mom

Only a car possessed by the ghost of Jerry Van Dyke's character's mom that only communicates through the car's radio can take the spot of Edith Bunker.

Good thing this is a sitcom-ish draft cause that description is cracking me up =)

Good creativity Cartman.

I know I know...the rules "allow" for non-sitcom choices, but this one is interesting. Life Goes On was definitely a drama, but Corky did provide some laughs on the show (although he was the source of most of the drama as shown above). There are some other greats out there for Wildcard as well. It'll be interesting to see how the voters see this one.

I have been busier than expected and haven't been able to follow this from post to post. So if this has been discussed let me know.

But did anyone notice that by emphasizing the family sitcoms in the category sets, it made it a lot more difficult to utilize characters from "friend" or "work" or "situation" type comedies, like Friends, The Office, Seinfeld, etc.?

Of course it is a Television Family draft, so I guess that's not the goal. But I would have liked to see a draft which incorporated both the family sitcom and the other sitcom types to become a television comedy character draft of sorts.

But in any case, still looks like tons of fun. Great idea for a draft.

Please stop causing problems....

That indeed was discussed both at length and vehemently. The rules were "adjusted" to allow selections from shows other than sitcoms. it has definitely changed the way the picks have gone.

According to Wikipedia, All-American, baby!

Quote:
The car used in the show was an amalgam of different cars. "Mother" was built by Barris Kustom Industries and was powered by a 283 cubic inch (4.6 L) Chevrolet V8 and Powerglide automatic transmission. The carnation red body with white top was created from parts of a Model T, a Maxwell, a Hudson and a Chevrolet. Mother's hood, radiator shell and "Porter" radiator script were custom made. The design was anachronistic in many ways, with features from vehicles of the early 1920s and even the 1910s.

I wasn't going to go animated, but the pet pool is really shallow at this point. Plus, remember all those episodes where Scooby Doo met the Three Stooges or the Harlem Globetrotters?

I'm not a huge fan of the Scooby pick, but I'm coming to realize that I think I won't be a fan of the cartoon characters period just because of how it looks in my mind.

I think the farther it gets from sitcom-esque cartoons (The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Flintstones) the harder it gets to see the picks as fitting.

Possibly - that being said, I think if you're clever about how you frame the family, you can make it work.

See I was gonna go with this but I just can't consider thing a pet. Perhaps a servant but not a pet. 9.9 Eddie the dog, Frazier, Pet Eddie was your typical comedic releif when teh show would get sappy or sorrowful.

I'd say the first re-pick in the ninth round is doing pretty well. Actually, the first completely illegal pick I believe!

9.9 redux Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Friends, Pet

Can't go wrong with the coolest pet around. Joe Cool, WWI flying Ace and generally all around great beagle Snoopy.
I was torn on using him but considering picks from shows like Scooby Doo and the Jetsons I think this fits just as well.
