Well, with the Astros out and the Cards, Mets, and Dodgers in, I'd like to formally announce my allegiance for the NL playoffs, using the "lesser of evils" clause:

Yes, as clearly they refused to pay top dollar this year, passing on Andrew Miller because his demands were so much higher than anyone else picked

"On August 3, nearly two months after the draft, Hochevar signed a four-year major league contract worth $5.3 million guaranteed with the Royals. He received a $3.5 million signing bonus with the ability to earn as much as $7 million over the four years."

"{Miller} was drafted again in 2006, this time 6th overall by the Detroit Tigers, and agreed to a contract with a guaranteed value of $5.45 million and a signing bonus of $3.55 million on August 4, 2006."

Yes, Jeter is now sitting after going 1 for 5.

Polanco hit by pitch, Man on first, 1 out.

Ordonez fails to deliver, to the 9th they go tied 8-8. Detroit has used Rodney, Zumaya and Jones already.

I kind of want the twins to not win the division so I'd be able to see their games in primetime, instead of missing them all in the afternoon.

It's hard to tell sometimes. So many fans of large market teams say something to the effect of "Just spend more money" like it magically can be conjured out of thin air and we've gotten a bit sensitive to that here.

Still tied, on to the bottom of the 9th, if the Tigers don't score, do they put Jones out there again for a 3rd inning of work?

Rogers or Maroth will come in. Maroth isnt going to make the post season roster but he could go. Rogers wont pitch till game 3 regardless it sounds like (He sucks in NY, and he owns in Oakland) so he has a week of rest.

Wow, great catch by the Royals RF to save the game, Rodriguez sliced it into the corner with a man on first.

For those watching, doesn't it seem like the Royals are like, hey we gave you all we had for 9, now just win this so we can go home?

Will Jones come out for another inning if they are still tied?

Sorry to hear about your foot, and I can certainly understand then why you might respond in anger. But that doesn't mean it was right, or that jb was being deliberately ignorant (not even sure what that means).

You tore the guy a new one with your post, and his was fairly innocuous.

Started with Nate Robertson being miced up one game and he kept piling it in and the Tigers had a huge rally. It became a cult thing then it just blew up. It's our rally monkey, basically.

Tigers will have bases loaded after Rodriguez is walked, 1 out, bottom of the 11th.

Twins have won 5-1.

Tigers lack of plate discipline continues to haunt them. I am not sure how much longer they can hold the Royals scoreless. Regardless, my hands are clamy. I love October baseball.

Walking in a run? I know how you feel Tiger fans, I've been watching the Cards the past 2 weeks. The upside is, you are in no matter what happens here.

Dang. I was really hoping for a Royals loss today so they could get that #1 pick again Still, can't feel too bad about a win and a sweep, I suppose.

So i'm curious, Tigers had a good season.. but after getting swept by the royals to lose the division. Does any tigers fan actually believe they'll get out of the divisional series?

A three-game sweep to end the season after they'd already clinched the playoffs is virtually meaningless when considering their playoff chances.

Besides, when you're talking about best of 5 and best of 7 series, anything can happen - the Tigers have about as good a chance as anyone with Bonderman, Verlander and Rogers starting and Zumaya pitching critical innings out of the 'pen.

Clinching playoff's is one thing.. avoiding the yankee's and playing the a's instead by winning your division.. is quite another

I'll repeat - one 3-game series over the course of a 162-game season means next to nothing in evaluating their overall chances.

And secondly, it's actually better to play the Yankees in a best of five - the more games you play, the more likely the better team will win out. The Yanks have the killer lineup, but none of their starting pitchers is really scary in a Johan Santana kind of way.

Uh oh. That may have cost Trevor the CY even though the Pads pounded the front-runner, Webb.

Also, can't count on the Giants for nothing. What a sad team.

Padres hold on to win the West. They'll host the Cardinals in the first round. LA heads to New York.

Over in the AL, Twins host the A's, Yankees host the Tigers.

On a personal note, unless the Dodgers make it to the NLCS and there are affordable tickets, I won't be able to go to a playoff game this year, from the looks of things.
