That is what the PG is reporting as well this morning, Noah Welch. I am not sure what the deal was with him this year--did he spend the majority of the time in AHL because he couldn't beat out Rockin' Rob Scuderi/Jumpin' Joe Melichar for a bottom pairing spot, or because he's the one guy on a two-way contract?

Assuming this goes through, another deal will happen today--it leaves Pittsburgh with one too many forwards, plus Ekman due back any day. Someone is moving for a defensemen--and I tend to think Shero will try to get a young(er) guy and/or someone with a contract through at least next year, to replace Welch if he was to be in Pittsburgh next year. Nick Boynton makes tons of sense--Ryan Malone? The excess would seem to fall on LW, although Malone has been a superb PKer at times this year.

Biron has been traded according to TSN, don't know where he's going yet.

Ever since Dregger left Sportsnet that station has totally gone down the drain. For those that haven't checked out their deadline show yet, here is what you are missing:

- Eklund is their NHL insider
- hot girls putting on make-up, and doing their hair
- guys playing table hockey
- constant rap music playing in the background
- Stumby and Keith Primeau adding their awesome insight

The Sportsnet coverage is terrible. The experts are fine and I'm sure they'll get their scoops, but this is unwatchable. This is what I hate about sports broadcasting -- who are you trying to impress? People who don't care about hockey?

I have both TSN and Sportsnet streaming on my computer now. The TSN feed is choppy, but I've decided I'd rather have that then Sportsnet's dog and pony show.

Edit: You forgot "The Hanson's wandering around in the background for no reason" and "Some guy painting something".

I really wish the Leafs were in 12-13 spot instead of 10th... they are just going to dump more depth, picks, and prospects for older players that will probably only be around for the rest of the season. It's about time the Leafs ownership stopped trying to fool the fans and go into rebuild mode, it's not like they're going to be playing in front of an empty building.

RDS is saying Biron to the Flyers. McKenzie is saying it's for one pick anything between 1st and third round.

Odd. Unless this is part of a bigger deal for both teams, I don't understand why the Flyers would trade picks for a UFA-to-be goaltender.

McKenzie is saying that the Sabres are likely to flip this pick, whatever it is, but I doubt that Philly is going to move Biron. I do find it odd that Philly would go out and get Biron now, even if they are going to re-sign him, given the horrible state of the team.

The other thing is that Philly has to move a goalie now, assuming they are going with a tandem they've got three starters now so one has to go. My money is on Esche, obviously.

All 3 Flyers goalies (Nitty, Esche, and Lighten) are UFA. They were going to be a player in the goalie market this FA season. I think this is a good move for the Flyers.

If they don't trade Biron, how is this a good move exactly? Unless, of course, they think it will be easier to "re-sign" him as opposed to trying to lure him as a free agent?

Sabres, I assume, are going to turn that pick/space into an aquisition.

oh, and Klessel...er Eklund had Biron going to Florida. I wonder how many of his "contacts" just fuck with him for the hell of it?

Come on everyone, calm down. If history has shown us anything, it's that the Philadelphia Flyers know what they're doing when it comes to goaltending.

So how does this help that situation? They still have to be a player in the goalie market during free agency as of now since Biron is going to be a UFA... and they certainly don't have a deal in place with Biron, since he was told about the trade just before he was about to go on the ice at the ACC.

If they don't sign him they don't lose as high of a pick as they would if they do. So I think it's a good risk to give up a lower round pick for a chance that he might sign with them before he hits FA.

That's fine by me. I'd give up the 1st round they got from Nashville if they signed Biron long term. It's a risk and one that I like.

What does Georges Laraque bring to the Penguins? Anything at all? Maybe bsak16 and Suburban Rhythm can give me some idea of why the Penguins would want to make this deal.

I really like the moves the Penguins are making... Roberts' leadership and now Laraque's toughness.

Toughness to back-up Crosby... Crosby's been asking the Penguins to make this type of move all season.

From what I heard the Pens really soured on Noah Welch so giving him up for Roberts was a no brainer, in their opinion. I think what these two players bring to the table is toughness. Everyone keeps screaming that they need a protector for Crosby and I think that's what they are doing right now.

TSN is saying it's a 3-way deal with the Sharks getting Guerin, they don't seem to sure about it though.

That is the answer....I don't know if I entirely agree with it, but that is the thinking. No more spears from Jason Blake, etc.And you can do worse than Big George as a tough guy. At least he has some skills, I think he has like 17-20 points this year.

As a side note, I thought the draft was now 7 rounds after the newest CBA? If that is true, SHERO IS A FREAKING GENIUS trading an 8th round pick!

lol.

The Sharks-Guerin trade looks to be just a 2-way deal now for a non-roster player. Anyone think Anheim has to do something now to keep up with Nashville and San Jose? Keenan is suggesting Burke might go after Bert, I doubt that though.

Penguins now have 16 forwards, once Nils Ekman returns from injury.

For Ray Shero's next trick, he will attempt to turn Joe Melichar/Rob Scuderi, a forward and a pick into a real, live NHL defensemen. PRESTO CHANGO!

Dom Moore to Minnesota for the ever popular TBA.
Pens give up a guy who can win FO's, but that was about all he was doing.

Just updated to 3rd round pick from Minnesota.

Here, here.

The man annoys me to no end.

I often refer to him as "that penius-looking guy with the headset who sits in that little box between the benches."

missed that one

Apparently Jagr bitched at Ward for dumping the puck in on some play instead of passing it. Ward then called out Jagr for being a bad leader or something or other. Then Jagr went to the media basically called Ward a wussy for whining about being criticized. Ward was a healthy scratch the next game.

That's the cliffs notes version.

Pittsburgh will give up Kris Beech, Michel Sivek, Ross Lupaschuk and cash...but only if we somehow get Frantisek Kucera back too!

Somewhere in there you missed "Jagr refuses to participate in shootouts when his team needs every point it can get."

Yes. That too. Aaron Ward has won three cups and played under captains like Yzerman and Brind'amour. I'm sure he his criticisims of Jagr weren't too far from the mark.

According to nhlnumbers.com, the Rangers will be on the hook for Mara's $3 million salary next year.
